I never thought that I would like a one-on-one training, but this is the best workout I've ever had. Matt is extremely thoughtful, pushes me hard, and all the while encourages me to concentrate on my mental well-being as well as my physical well-being. My energy level, weight, and boxing skills have all improved thanks to him. I look forward to every session!

A great boxing workout for body and mind. Matt has a keen sense of exactly how far to push you with time-tested exercises and pad work, not the latest gym fad, to get you in punching shape. Good guy, too. My only regret is not starting sooner.

Matt is without a doubt of the most knowledgeable and solid trainers you could ever be fortunate enough to work with and is just as much of a great human being & friend, as he's gone out of his way to go above and beyond in lending a helping hand outside of the gym, for which I am absolutely grateful for🥊you will not regret working with Matt!

I’ve been interested in boxing and learning boxing for years but always struggled to find a gym that wasn’t HIIT workouts on a heavy bag. That changed when I found Boxing in the Park two years ago. It’s hard to express how amazing my time there has been, because it’s literally been life changing for me! I walk differently, I actually enjoy running (didn’t think that was possible), and my mental health is better than it’s been in years. Coach Matt focuses on the techniques and strategies of the sweet science, as well as the physical fitness aspect. As a born coach he led and mentored me to develop my own skills and abilities, keeping the classes challenging but achievable. Switching from one class a week to two really accelerated my progress, as there are SO MANY skills to learn once a week just wasn’t enough for me. Matt has been incredibly encouraging and patient, finding workouts when I showed up with a tweaked back, busted knee, etc. He’s also a leader of a strong community in the boxing world of New Orleans, hosting and coordinating events to bring together like minded people together and developing a social support system of boxing and fitness enthusiasts. I got to meet so many great people, pros and amateurs alike, through these events. I still can’t believe I stumbled across Boxing in the Park on an evening walk and it’s one of the top three things I’ve done in the past twenty years. Do yourself a favor and sign up for a class, you won’t regret it!

Matt, the trainer who runs "Boxing in the Park," is the ideal boxing coach. Everyone from beginners to pros could learn from Matt. He tailors the boxing lessons/workouts (they're really both!) to each person, adapting to the unique needs and goals of his clients. As someone who gets bored easily with certain workouts, I can confidently say I enjoy every session with Matt. He pushes you in all the right ways without overdoing it. Do yourself a favor and sign up now!

Can't speak more highly of Matt as a trainer or as a person. Whatever your goals are, he works collaboratively to help you achieve them. He's incredibly knowledgeable and has worked with some of the best, and his passion for the sport is infectious. Beyond boxing however, Matt has had such a positive influence on my life. The improvements I've made physically and mentally since starting my boxing journey, as well as the other positive changes I've made in my life...I owe it all to this man right here. I wouldn't be the same without him, and he's made a lasting impact on my life and given me some insights on myself that I won't ever forget. I can't thank this man enough for being in my corner, both literally and figuratively. Very grateful to have found the best in NOLA!

Matt creates and fosters a safe environment to learn and gain strength both physically and mentally. He goes beyond giving consistently good boxing lessons by incorporating mental health, nutrition, and genuine care for his clients. He will push you to give it your all and you will be grateful - You won’t believe the things you can accomplish with Matt at your side!

I’m so happy I started boxing in the park with Matt! I see Matt twice a week and love how technical the sport is. Way better than going to any bag class because Matt really helps you learn proper technique. Overall Matt is awesome - you can tell he really cares about his students and has helped not just with boxing but is always there for emotional support and whatever else his students needs. He definitely pushes you to succeed and I always work up a good sweat after each session. Such a fun way to fit in some cardio and it’s a great way to get into a better head space. I highly recommend taking Matt’s class, either in the park or at his studio in the bywater.

Matt tailors stretching, strength training, and boxing technique instruction to each individual. This is apparently the way he did when he trained professional boxers when the right preparation made the difference between winning and losing and getting injured or not. He's a great personal coach, really knows boxing, has a great sense of humor and is always in a good mood.

Without any prior boxing experience i dove into training 3x a week with Matt. Through Matt’s instruction and leadership i felt like i was learning right out of the gate and after the first class had already felt i was walking away with knowledge gained. I look forward to training every week and when the session is over i always find myself not wanting to leave. Matt will push you to the limit but not over the edge in the best ways. Being able to train outside on a beautiful morning is always a major bonus as well. My only regret is i hadn’t started training sooner!
