The gym is nice. It is a bit over crowded with equipment and typically cannot comfortably house its daily population without a few waits.

Paid street parking.30-50$ membership monthly.Annual contracts mandatory.PACKED gym.I decided not to commit but really doesn't add up to a good experience. Unless that's where all your bros go.They didn't actively wrong me, so I can't give it a 1 star, but red flags abound.

Signed up for the community member membership as I am no longer a student, a little pricey but the facilities are nice. Front desk persons sign me up for what I believe to be a month to month 45$ plan.I get injured in beginning of Feb, don't use facilities due to said injury then get a email from their front of office saying I cannot return to gym until I sign some paperwork they forgot to have me sign.So a month passes by, I don't go because I'm injured and I assume, wrongfully, that because I they missed having me sign paperwork they wouldn't be charging me since I am by their own admission not allowed back in until I sign said paperwork.I find they charged me for the month of March, I call in asking for a refund on the voicemail stating the situation. I'm called back a few hours later by the person who claims to be in charge of the Rec Office membership and this individual very rudely, and sternly proceeds to tell me I've broken their terms of service for my apparent 1 year contract I signed. This was news to me.And if I request a refund for Feb and March I'd need to prove with a doctors note that I was out for Feb, and they'd only refund me March out of good will and that I am never allowed to use the "month to month year plan" option ever again and only am allowed to use the 1 time yearly membership plan.I explained to the guy I had no idea I even signed a year contract and that was definitely not the information given to me when I signed up at the front desk. He could quite frankly careless, you could tell he just wanted to get off the phone call even though it already hardly a two minute conversation. It seems that as nice as the facilities are, the staff seems a bit uncaring and under trained. I shouldn't have been signed up for a year contract under the guise of it being month to month, and I definitely don't believe I deserve such rude candor over a simple refund request over an injury.

SEE EDIT AFTER REVIEWThis gym looked really, really nice and I was very excited to join. Unfortunately, the experience of signing up immediately killed whatever excitement I had.Today, I attempted to start a membership in person at Cary Street Gym. I wanted to get an Annual Staff/Faculty membership with an additional adult. The staff member working the counter informed me that the cost would be $221 paid up front. I agreed to this price and paid via debit on the POS system. The staff member went to take the picture of my partner (the additional adult) to set up her membership and then stated that he charged me the incorrect amount and stated that the actual amount would be over $400. I did not agree to this and asked that the $221 I already paid be refunded to me. The staff member stated "We don't do refunds". He then asked for the supervisor to come speak with us. We explained our situation to the supervisor and she stated that she was "Sorry that you misunderstood the agreement" (which in customer-service language means "this is YOUR fault, stupid") and that the details should have been in the waiver that we signed.I stopped her right there because neither of us were ever given a waiver. There was no mention of a waiver until then. The original staff member admitted to the supervisor that he didn't give us the waiver and that it was "my bad."We were then informed that the best thing to do would be to email another supervisor. I have written said email, but, as somebody who works for VCU, I know that writing an email to anybody is an exercise in futility. I can only hope that it is seen, because otherwise I'll have to report fraud to my bank.Because you know...taking money from someone for a service and then changing the terms of the transaction with NO contract, waiver, or written agreement saying that you could and refusing to refund said person when they disagree with the new terms is FRAUD.Look, as a nurse, I'm used to getting screwed over but this takes the cake. Stay away from this place. I don't care how nice the gym is, they STOLE MY MONEY.EDIT: Management has responded to me and offered to rectify the situation and given me a full refund. They have also stated that staff will be re-trained in how to sign new members up. Management has gone out of their way to iron this out for me, probably during their time off as well. For that, I've changed my star rating but my initial review will stay up as the issues are still valid.

The best possible choice for students, someone more questionable for the general public and an excellent value for VCU and VCU health employees. Spacious, newly renovated gym with tons of court space, exercise rooms, wide variety of …

The gym and equipment are great. The amount of people who were accepted to VCU that cant read the signs during the pandemic are astonishing though. The gym staff are trying their best to keep things safe. So fellow students..... read the signs for the maximum number of people allowed in an area there are signs everywhere.

My second home. Membership is included with tuition, but offers other options for those that are not students. I been here six days a week for the past two years and I have no complaints on the equipment or staff, just other gym goers. …

Really nice facilities. Gets messy and a can get pretty crowded except for early mornings and super late at night so it can be intimidating for people who are just starting out lifting weights. I don’t consistently see people wiping down …
