Do NOT go here- staff takes complete advantage of new clients and students. The mangers/salespeople inform you of inaccurate billing amounts to get you to agree to a membership only to overcharge you and claim that it is not refundable. Please save your money and go elsewhere.

I've lived all over SF in my 6 years in the city and tried a variety of gyms, but the Crunch on Union Street is the best of the bunch. The staff is professional and considerate, they have all machines and weights you could ask for, and the other members are down to earth and willing to help you out. Would highly recommend joining.

If you’re into a chill yet active exercise experience, check out Crunch Gym for satisfaction. Here is a no-pressure, reassuring, and comforting work out center. I tried the one at 1725 Union Street in the Cow Hollow area of San Francisco. The manager, Rob, was so eager to set me up and address my short-term needs. He and Margaret made sure the paperwork was care-free. Member card in hand, I went to the spotless locker room, which, truth-be-told, has sinks that look like they’re in an upscale Union Square hotel (good soap, good towels.)Then it was up to the weights. They are well-racked and secured. All the free weights and Nautilus machines are logically arranged. Sanitation zones are within close reach and feature spray not sounding as if it came from a medical lab; it has the French perfume sounding “Lavender 256.”In fact, nothing has a rough edge here. You can work out hard, but feel easy.In my gym back home certain members ask to “work through,” which is a polite term for barging in between your sets to save time. With Covid that is not advisable, as you should clean up before and after you lift. So, it would really take up more time. At Crunch, a member, in soft tone, asked where I was in my cycle. I said three more sets, and he started up on another machine. His affability made me offer to stop and go on another station. Manners are contagious. And manners are about care for others, and that’s what Crunch does best – for your health, your development, and your feelings. Their poster boards proclaim, “No judgements,” but I judge Crunch a winner.1725 Union St, San Francisco, CA 94123

AVOID THIS GYM. They have poor organization and commutation. I canceled my plan during the lockdown btw feb and Mar and now I am receiving a bill of $300. Why does someone would still pay without going to the gym for the past 8 months???I called someone at Union street facility and they told my plan was canceled successfully 8 months ago. And now I am receiving a bill and they said that if I don’t pay I will be sent to the collection, the receptionist lied saying that she had my Social Security Number threatening me that they would send my info to the collection. CRAZY

I like Crunch gyms overall and have been a member off and on for about a year but this location is horrible. I switched to the Polk St location (only .2 miles away) and it has been a radically better and safer experience. I recommend you go there instead.I’ve reached out to this Crunch branch to discuss their COVID regulations (and their violations of them) on multiple occasions with no response. I also raised my concerns about gym members not following mask rules (that are clearly posted within the gym and announced over the speakers at regular intervals) to the staff and they refuse to enforce their own rules. According to Crunch headquarters all gym members must wear their mask correctly (over mouth AND nose) and to not remove the mask at ANY TIME except to drink water. I was told by Alex, a front desk worker, that there is nothing they can do to force members to wear their mask correctly. That’s untrue according to Crunch HQ. They should be asking members who don’t comply with those guidelines to follow the rules or leave the premises. Alex told me the general manager, George O’Connor has told members it’s ok not to wear a mask if they’re exercising and 6 feet away from people. This is scientifically inaccurate relating to how COVID is spread and it also is a violation of Crunch and CDC guidelines. There are multiple gym goers at any point in time working out without a mask on properly. It makes the workout space extremely hostile and unsafe. Not to mention this location is very small which only exacerbates the mask issue considering it’s very hard to distance yourself from other gym members. In their defense the gym is very well kept, clean, and there are cleaning stations everywhere. In contrast, today at the Polk St location, there were two members not wearing masks correctly and when I alerted the front desk worker he immediately asked them to wear their mask correctly and they complied. It was much more comfortable to work out in that environment and I felt safe. Not to mention the front desk staff member, Alex, does not wear his own mask properly. Whenever he speaks it slides down his face and he is standing directly in front of you talking with his mask falling off. It’s unsafe. I’d also like to call out I’ve had multiple female friends of mine who have been to that gym mention that Alex has made inappropriate comments to them about their appearance and their outfits. He is not fit for this position.I’d love to contact Crunch corporate about this situation and alert them to the state of the Union St Crunch but have been unable to find information. If anyone knows a way to file a compliant let me know.FYI - I emailed the email below after I wrote the review like the owner said but never received a response. Great customer service!

1st, was told the wrong price when I was signing up. After I checked/confirmed the price was higher than I was looking for (20 seconds after I was charged), I was told my charge would get refunded. I called a 2nd time, and was told the same, my refund was in process. The third time I called, after I was charged again for a membership I was told would be canceled 2x, I was told refunds can only be handled if cancellation requests are submitted by email... so they charged me twice when I was told multiple times previously that my charges would be cancelled.Unbelievably poor experience here....

Great gym with lots of variety for different equipment or training plans (e.g. TRX, cardio, power lifting, body building, etc.). Nice environment and clean. Locker rooms were also very nice and they provided plastic bags for dirty clothes which I really appreciated !

TLDR; Manager Rob missing basic Customer Service skills.I have been a member for over 5 years. This past week was the last week of membership which expired few days ago post covid extension. I am in the process of renewing with my home base on Polk but decided to check out the Signature Branch on Union in the interim to make up my mind on the location and if the All Bay Access membership is worth it. Showed up at the front (expecting to pay drop-in*)let them know membership expired. The Front Desk (who happened to b awesome) let me know I can go workout. I tried buying a drink to support the branch and the manager waves me over. Rob looked me up and tells me I need to renew with him or go back to my HB. Pointed out that employee waved me through, I am already in touch with home base membership and have committed for today, driving to this location. He let me know he’s the boss of this branch and if I wanted to workout I need to pay ($35 plus drink). Manager has many options at his disposal in this situation but decided to disregard Crunch values or the long standing relationship I’ve had with Crunch. Be better man. Stop worrying about your quota and concentrate on building relationships with your customers. Could have instead sold me a PT or inspired me to change HB or reinforced the Crunch values by staying cool.

Recently went in to check out the gym but although the equipment and amenities were good the customer experience was terrible. When I spoke to the manager (I think his name was Rob), he told me that the 3-day trial offer that is heavily advertised by crunch fitness is a marketing gimmick. My questions related to I’d like to visit the gym once to get a feel for the location were met with absolutely sarcastic (and slightly childish) responses. All in all, seems like a decent gym with an unprofessional manager which is a no go for me.

For being in a small city space this gym has everything you need to get a good lift in. The gym is very clean and is abiding by all health guidelines. I met Derick & Kevin the first time coming here and they really helped me get started and set some personal goals. There is a good group of people working here that will take some time to introduce themselves and help motivate you.
