Large and very busy traditional-style gym, previously mostly during the evening rush hour, but now even at the 5am opening time. They did a nice job with the bathroom renovations. Finally, they are replacing some of the old creaky and partially rusted equipment. And with Fitness SF's continued succession of monthly fee increases, they really need to bring more of the equipment up to date to show clients what we are getting for our dues. The cable machines are an abomination and need to be replaced forthwith.Still, in view of this gym's previous association (and withdrawal from, following customer protests) the rabidly homophobic Gold's Gym franchise, Fitness SF's recent alliance with the Salvation Army (the gym sent out a fundraising appeal for the S.A.) is concerning, given that religious organization's previously well-publicized anti-gay stance. A better -- and local -- choice of charities that many of us can support is Glide Foundation.

FITNESS SF - SOMA LOCATION: Great gym, reasonable membership price, free parking, clean facilities, fitness classes included in membership. They also have a pet room to keep your dog while you work out! I do wish the monthly schedule of classes was varied more (I’m consistently not able to take the class I really like due to my 9-5 work schedule*) and a few times I’ve been to the gym late and the sauna/steam room has been turned off in the ladies locker room at like 8pm—when I ask the front desk to turn it on, they say they don’t know how to. All in all though, I would definitely venture to say that FITNESS SF is the best quality for price in the Bay Area.*I want to clarify this with a caveat: they actually offer the class at different times at their other locations in SF, I am just a creature of habit/also lazy and prefer SOMA to some of their other locations.

Nice gym. Crowded after work. Less crowded after 8pm. Monthly dues a little expensive at $100+/month and consumer unfriendly membership policies - i.e. prepay first and last months dues and must give 15 days notice for cancellation in order to avoid an additional month's dues.Edit: Regarding Fitness SF's response - I think those policies are unfriendly, you think they're fine. But this isn't your review of your own services. This is *my* review of your services.

Great gym, equipment and employees. I’ve been a member for a number of years so I’ve seen the positive changes to the gym. I’ve known Alex Osborne for several years and he is definitely concerned about the wellness of his clients, the focus is on them !! Thanks for the great fitness tips as well. 👌🏿💪🏿😊 …

Lots of space and good variety of equipment. Even when busy it's possible to get in a good workout. Great classes, especially yoga.

The place is really awesome and the staff is great . The reason for only the 4 stars is more of a personal preference, I wish the locker room was a bit bigger.

This is (by a good margin) the best fitness SF (although I have not been to Castro). …

A little to cluttered and the free weights are kind of outdated. Yet the staff makes up for any downfall and the overall feel in the gym sends great positive vibes

Been going to this local gym. On the smaller side but i don't ever feel like i have to fight anyone for equipment use. Great options for people interested in classes as well.
