I have been a member for several years and I'd like to give my honest opinion for anyone who is looking for a place to work out.Nice big place, I have barely had to wait to use a machine even during peak times. I don't use the steam room but nice feature...The custodial staff is awesome.. always working hard to keep everything clean.Had some issues with management and billing, a quick email to the higher ups and the regional manager personally called me from his cell phone and straightened everything out for me.Unfortunately I did see an employee recently use the rest room and not wash his hands.. not sure if he was a trainer or not but still unsanitary.Overall 3 stars for the handwash thing but I'd definitely recommend this to anyone looking to better themselves

I am absolutely appalled by how horrible the service is at this gym, with specific regard to the sales department and membership services. I had been a member at Best Fitness for over 2 years. I recently tried canceling my membership because I have moved to a different state. When trying to cancel my account I was treated rudely and forced to go through one-hundred and one different hoops just to attempt closing my account. It wasn't until I received a call from ABC Fitness, that I was aware that my account was in fact never closed. I will not name any names, but the person in charge of canceling my account decided to wait until the next pay period before finally sending my cancelation to ABC Fitness, and in doing so charging me an extra $20 as a monthly fee for the month of August. These types of untrustworthy and shady dealing are the type of actions that make me glad to not be a member at this gym any longer. If you are searching for a new gym to join I highly recommend looking elsewhere. There are plenty of other better options than here. Try Vent Fitness down the road, from what I hear from friends who have switched from Best to Vent, the service is better, the people are nicer, and most importantly the facility and equipment is more up to date and nicer. If I could give a lower star rating than one I would. Please don't make the mistake that I made.

As a member for many years, I called because I was told by a staff member that CDPHP members received a price of $14.99 for a monthly membership. I called - no, I was told that cannot be correct. I get all my dues back at the end of the year because my place of work reimburses me through my insurance - but it's the principle. Perhaps all the staff should know the same information and not "guess", as this information I was given was incorrect and now I am mildly annoyed. However, as far as the gym goes - it's a gym with basic gym equipment. But, I would rather go here than Planet (the colors there give me a headache and they don't have group classes) and the majority of the class instructors (spin, yoga, pilates, etc) are phenomenal.I am basing my review on the average between loving the instructors but disliking the way my membership was handled.

Do not listen to this rhetoric people. Best Fitness is a highly respected gym, and it's team is full of very helpful and thoughtful individuals. Clearly these people don't go to the gym to workout, they go to criticize. I've been there a year and their team has helped me in every possible way they could. I enjoy it, and HIGHLY recommend it!

The gym is fine to work out in, but you can find a cheaper gym almost anywhere. Their business practices are extremely questionable if not fraudulent. I'm speaking of the company in general because I had they same problem in both Albany and Schenectady. I recommend staying away from this gym and company completely. The contract included many hidden fees throughout the year as well astronomical fees for cancellation. In my case they continued to bill my spouse even after I told them to cancel both of our accounts and then they will claim ignorance about it all in the end when confronted. An honorable business would refund you your money but they sad too bad.*Buyer Beware*

This place has really stepped up their game! New treadmills are GREAT!! I always get a pleasant greeting and feel great about my workout. I have referred several of my friends and they love the HUGE selection of strength equipment. Happy to support a local business.

SKIP THIS GYM!! I have been a member of Planet Fitness, The Fitness Center and Best Fitness, they are by far the worst gym I have ever dealt with. Longer contracts and high membership prices and fees, probably because they cannot keep up with places like Planet Fitness that offer the same services and equipment at a fraction of the cost. Keep in mind they only have two locations. I've only been to the Schenectady location. Whatever you do, DO NOT sign up for a two year contract, the fine print guarantees they will not waive the 100 dollar fee if you decide to cancel. To give you an idea of the type of people running this gym: I'm cancelling my membership 10 business days in advance and they are still going to charge me for the month of September, even though I haven't been there in 12 months as I moved away from the area and am no longer local. That's almost $300 dollars thrown away. When I asked to talk to someone corporate to see if they would be willing to waive the $100, they were shady about who I would contact and convinced me it wouldn't be worth the trouble. Good luck trying to get in touch with the higher ups, whoever they are?? It is a mystery! Interested in personal training? I am athletic and fit but wanted to get new ideas using the machines. That was completely disregarded. First, you get a salaes pitch, you have to pay even more grandiose prices to see a personal trainer, or be part of a personal training group. Then they will take you in the middle of the gym where everyone is working out and can watch you as you embarass yourself doing ridiculous exercises you would otherwise not be able to sustain without a trainer. **BOTTOM LINE: all they want is your money.**

I joined the gym three months ago. I love that there are so many machines and nice, friendly people who wipe them down after they use them. I like the clean ladies restroom and huge locker room which is always filled with women talking about their experience. I like that there are changing rooms, big mirrors and a steam room. Women give you space and privacy. Nobody is loud or on their cell phones. It is a relaxing, peaceful environment. The staff are friendly, professional and they cheer you on. They are happy to answer any questions you have about food, calories and equipment. It's a safe, warm place to be.I love it so much I find myself going everyday. I have met so many people who are reaching their fitness goals are doing well. I like the fact that there are people from all ages and all different backgrounds. You meet teachers, nurses, Moms, college students and many other professionals.I like that the trainers answer questions and chat but do not ever ask you to sign up with them. They never sell you anything. They never ask you to buy lessons, bars, water or anything.Come join this gym. Ask for Crystal, Nicole or Brittany, they are all really nice...you will love it here! A happy, satisfied client!!!

I have been a client at Best Fitness for years, and a personal training client for nearly two years. The gym itself is clean, the staff courteous and friendly. Our personal trainer Kory, trains my whole family. He is both professional, friendly and knowledgeable. However, I believe the most important trait a personal trainer can have is to be personable. Kory connects with his clients providing a comfort and strong support to improve ones physical well being. You never feel judged, or uncomfortable around him and that immediately clears the way towards progress. Kory certainly goes above and beyond a simple hour of training, he has clients consider all the factors connected with their health and helps encourage better lifestyles both in and outside of the gym. I have always recommended him to others and will continue to do so.

My experience over the last 20 months at Best Fitness has been positive overall. I've been to many gyms over the last 25 years, and they all have shortcomings (significant, in some cases). Best Fitness Schenectady seems to have most things in order. Of course, you may find a more posh gym with more amenities. However, what Best Fitness provides for under $20/month cannot be beat. What is most attractive about this gym is the sense of camaraderie and goodwill that I feel there. This is likely engendered by the owner and his staff, and is a key attribute for a personal development facility to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable. Otherwise, all the equipment and amenities are of little compensation. Bottom line: This place is absolutely worth your time and money.
