I have the pleasure of both training with and under the tutelage of Mister Nick Ilias over the course of my path through Soo Bahk Do. My path through Soo Bahk Do started with John Martines Kyo Sa Nim in Carbondale where Mister Ilias assisted and instructed classes. Through his instructor, 9th Dan Kwon Sa Bom Nim , Nick Ilias brings with him a strong connection to the art’s history that can be traced back to the founding of the art in Korea. Nick Ilias’s dedication and desire to teach the art was clearly a strong motivator for him and few things will make a student more eager to learn than a teacher that feels a genuine love for his own subject. That he finally realized his goal to open his own studio to spread the techniques and philosophies of Soo Bahk Do only highlights how strong his drive and dedication truly is.A martial art is more than punching and kicking techniques. A martial art requires a philosophy to make it an art. I honestly feel that few people are as dedicated to not just understanding the techniques and philosophies of this martial art but to teaching and helping his students understand it. Under the instruction of Nick Ilias in the art Soo Bahk Do, a better version of yourself will be made. I have studies other forms of karate but it is only in Soo Bahk Do that I developed a genuine connection to a living martial art and pursued it with passion. Nick Ilias was one part of developing that connection and I encourage trying his school whether you have studied a martial art before or never gave it very serious thought.Adam L. I've trained with Mr. Nick Ilias several times now and it is always an exciting time. Not only is he a proficient practitioner, he is able to kick the intensity to 11. Anyone who takes classes at Ilias Soo Bahk Do is going to get a wonderful workout but also learn valuable skills like self defense but also foundational emotional skills like confidence that are crucial for younger children. Highly recommended.
