Asheville Community Yoga is a welcoming, warm home for so many people in Asheville—myself included. When I moved to Asheville from San Diego four years ago, I wanted to nestle into a new studio where I could return to my practice, but found that many of the studios around town were inaccessible to me because of their price point. I remember scouring the ACY website in advance for pricing, and when it wasn't presented numerically, I nervously asked when I arrived for my first class. When they said it was a "pay what you can" system, my brain stalled—I couldn't even comprehend that this class wouldn't cost me $20, and that it could cost me as little as $5.ACY breaks down the assumptions around yoga—that it's expensive, or pretentious, or inaccessible—and makes it available to everyone. They even provide mats (like, GOOD mats) so that everyone is able to practice. Over the years, ACY has been such a resource for me, physically, mentally, and spiritually. And as a freelancer, it's been such a relief that my donation can float with my income—sometimes more, sometimes less, always given with gratitude.Over the past four years, I've taken classes with many of the instructors—here are my favorites:Michael: His sequences are always, always, always the same, which allows you to really sink into the practice. I like his warm, 1.5 hour classes because they're the right kind of tough and he gets into your soul with irreverence, humor, and genuineness.Kelly B: Her Friday evening class is the perfect way to let go of the tensions from the week, and she's got such good, positive vibes.Emily: Emily's sequences are always some of my favorites, and her Sunday classes are the perfect length and way to close out the weekend.Wendy: Wendy is a bad***—her core class is intenseeee, and I've never left one of her classes feeling like I didn't get a workout. Also, good tunes!I've also taken wonderful classes with Dana and Ryan. The mission of ACY is so inspiring, and it's been such a gift to get to watch as the studio has grown over the past four years. I can't wait to see what the next four hold!

I teach at Asheville Community Yoga as well as take classes there. I love doing both. It truly is a community for me and I am there several days a week. I believe it is a huge gift that people are able to pay what they can as afford to for classes.

Asheville Community Yoga (ACY) is a truly incredible organization that is continually spreading yoga, happiness, and love to the Asheville area. ACY has allowed me a safe and healing space to begin some profoundly transformational self development on a holistic level (mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual). There are a copious amount of classes offered every day of the week from morning throughout the evening ranging in intensity and difficulty. The diversity of the teachers allows for individuals to be exposed to a large variety of yoga practices. Each instructor brings with them their own unique skill sets, stregths, philosphy and assets to their teaching practice. Modifications and adjustments are always offered for practicioners to be able to engage in yoga regardless of current strength, balance, endurance, or knowledge of asanas. There are also many workshops and special events offered every month that should absolutely be explored that allow for yoga and mindfulness practices to be engaged in at a deeper level. Everytime I walk through the doors of ACY I have always felt at home, and have always been greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. All the staff and volunteers at ACY are knowledgeable, kind, and compassionate. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all the staff and volunteers at ACY, the service you all provide is so special and important to me, and so many others.Thank You and Namaste.

I came to ACY for the first time almost a year ago. I was looking for a place to merely deepen my practice, but instead found community in every essence of the word. Fast forward a year and I consider this place my second home and all the people who work/volunteer here my family.I not only recommend this place, but I guarantee that you will be welcomed with positive energy and leave feeling better than you came in, and for me that means the world! ✌🌎✌

It's really beautiful to experience a community yoga center. This studio is a piece of the larger heart of Asheville. The building is immaculate, hard wood floors and very high ceilings; allowing plenty of room to breathe and be.
