The WNC YMCA is the most expensive gym in the area, and they're open the least amount of hours. In fact, they just reduced their hours even more for summer, even though most working adults schedules don't change and it caused us a huge inconvenience. Of course they're happy to keep charging the same amount of money for less availability and service. Also I have seen people using the gym equipment in a way that could harm themselves, and the staff and trainers just stand there and don't say anything. If they're not there for safety and to coach members then what are they there for? The good thing about a Y membership is that I can visit other Y's across the country when I travel. The machines are new and work well. If you have money to burn, try them out.

Poor organization! Many people in the free weights during peak hours make harder training .. Forget about the free swimming always booked! I hoped they get it better

This used to be my YMCA when I lived in Asheville for almost 15 years, but alas, the time has come for me to move on. But, I can say that I do know this location well, and it's one of the best YMCA's that I've been to. The Group Exercise programs were my favorite. There's a guy named Aaron there that led Groups for Athletic Conditioning, and other Groups, and I haven't experienced anything like that since. He is awesome. I miss this place. I'm giving it a 4-star because they need to build another floor; it is WAY too crowded here.

Great staff, great classes, and excellent facility. Just avoid it during peak hours and you should be fine. Gender separate sauna/steam rooms and really spacious locker rooms make this Y a much more relaxed space than other Y's. If you are into swimming, you have to be willing to share lanes sometimes, but again, just avoid peak hours and you'll be fine.

I've been going to the downtown Y for 8 years now. The staff has always treated me like family. Unlike the other reviewer, I have never had to wait to use the pool. Not once. We play basketball on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I also come work out, run on a treadmill and swim. Being a Y member makes me feel connected to the community and I have made many friends there. I also feel invigorated and energized all day when I start the day off at the Y.

One of the nicest YMCA's I've ever seen. It's huge and has a pool, weight room, indoor basketball courts, cardio room, and group classes.
