My husband and I have been long time members of this facility and during a most recent visit I was completely disgusted at some of the staff behavior. There area few lounge tables at the top of the stairs near the entrance of the center where staff sit at check in and help with membership process, I usually sit at one and wait for my husband. I dont like to eavesdrop, however some of the things that were being said by the two gentlemen at the front desk was just so horrible and disgusting to hear! I have a recording on my cell phone which at times breaks up and is had to hear, but continuous jokes about women's weight and comments about what they should wear and shouldn't wear. I was horrified! I found out later that one of them is the manager!!! Chris someone....? This is completely unacceptable and as a member I tolerate it in Asheville. I will be contacting local media outlets, The YMCA of USA and The Better Business Bureau with this video recording. I've read other reviews on Google and Yelp about this same manger and cant believe this behavior still is allowed to go on. Until then I will continue to being faithful to my class instructors, trainers and other gym goers.

This is a fine facility. Great class instructors, good equipment and somewhat nice staff. However the management team is a big problem. I had an issue with being charged twice on my credit card and spoke with a membership person that was helpful and nice but couldn’t resolve the issue. Then a manager named Chris Fox was called over who I’ve seen around and had seemed to be a bit confrontational with other employees before. He didn’t seem in a pleasant mood which is fine because it was a Monday morning and we all have those days but he was extremely rude and defensive. I went from feeling like an important member of a respected fitness club to just nobody which really just wasn’t a good feeling, the gym is my escape and it’s just hard to be treated that way. He was very aggressive, undermining and disrespectful in the things he said and the way he acted as a “Manager”, saying “If you have a problem affording this, we can place your membership on hold”. Like wow?? Okay thanks. I felt like I was talking to a spoiled frat douchebag instead of a leader. The issue was never resolved and I was charged twice in one month without the issue being fixed. I really hope that the Y which is known for its leadership can employ some better management and better train them in the future for the members’ sake. I am still considering canceling my membership because of this issue and most definitely will NOT be using the downtown Y anymore. Ill will drive the extra 25 minutes to the Retuer Y in Arden.Other members should be aware of Mr. Fox’s rude and unprofessional behavior and I hope the Y can address this issue.

I love going to the YMCA on Woodfin. I could go free to other places because my insurance company supports Silver sneakers. But I would rather pay the monthly fee to get the excellent classes and teachers, and variety of available classes and times. I take Yoga 3x a week and step aerobics twice a week. I also work out in the weight room. It’s great!

The new expansion is awesome. I enjoy the rules they enforce, and even when it is busy, I feel at ease working out. Many mini thanks.
