Started training BJJ here 6 months ago with zero experience. Highly recommend this gym for any age (kids classes look amazing) or experience level. The coaches are patient and skilled, the people are friendly, and most importantly there is no ego in the gym. What this means is when you train with someone more skilled than you they're there to help you grow. I ask a lot of questions and am always surprised that people/coaches are willing to spend so much time on me. If you're looking to improve yourself this is the place for you. Without a doubt one of the best decisions I've made.

This gym is awesome! I was quite nervous about joining but once I walked in that all changed. Everyone is really welcoming and truly want to help you learn. You can build friendships easily. Classes teach you alot and give you a good workout. You should definitely give it a try.

I haven't had this much fun working out since I stopped playing team sports in high school many years ago. The instructors are very knowledgeable and I usually leave each workout sweating and wanting more. I would highly recommend Rob as a boxing coach and Henry as a strength training coach. The gym also has free weights for people that like the traditional weight lifting workouts.

This has got to be the best gym I ever joined. When I walked in two months ago I was greeted with friendly faces and smiles+ and to this day that hasn't changed. Where else can you find a gym that let's you have a free trial for 30 days. I knew after day 1 though that this was the gym for me. The instructors are great and actually want to see you get better. The classes offered here are great and so are the people. The atmosphere is great for the whole family.

John's gym has been a wonderful experience. Whether you want to get strong, get fit, learn self defense or even compete in competition, johns gym has so many options for everyone. I've been going for a few months now and it really feels like my second family.

I'm only a few months in with the Muay Thai program at the gym, but I've loved every second of it. I'm always looking forward to the next class every time I leave the gym and every instructor is well trained and will push you to get your desired results. My money is well spent at John's Gym and I can't wait to start learning some BJJ!

After a solid year of training, it's time for this review.I've been training for almost all my life, and John's is unlike any gym I've ever been a part of. Sure, there's always a family feel in any gym with die-hard regulars, but the community that is bred within John's is amazing. Even though the classes could be considered "compartmentalized" in that you never have to participate in Muay Thai to train Jiu-Jitsu, there's still a companionship between students in each class. Our boxers will cheer and congratulate our BJJ comrades after coming home with gold as if we were in their corner the whole time.We are NOT a gladiator school. Although we are all proud of our gym, we are not prideful people. We will learn just as much from you as you could learn from any of us. All we want to do is get better and make everyone around us better, and no one can get better if everyone is hurt all the time. We train smart, not hard.We have a growing family at John's, and we've got plenty of room for more. With classes ranging from Kettlebell/Strength and Conditioning to Boxing/Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and a multitude of personal trainers on staff in their respective fields, you're sure to find something you love to do and that will help you meet your goals. Do what you love so you love what you do!

I have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for three years and was looking for a place to train while visiting in Austin. John's Gym is an affiliate under Robert Drysdale who is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and MMA fighter. I come from a similar affiliate Jiu Jitsu school and training under the Drysdale name gave me enough of a positive first impression to step on the mat at John's Gym. Whether you are a seasoned Jiu Jitsu practitioner or just beginning your Jiu Jitsu path, the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program at John's Gym, lead by Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt and Brasileiro Champion Rodrigo "Brucutu" Cabral, is one that meets and challenges every one's level. I was very pleased during my training time at John's Gym. The atmosphere is friendly, and the students are all eager to learn and train for the right reasons. Additionally, if Brazilian Jiu Jitsu isn't for you don't worry. John's Gym offers a wide range of other training opportunities and disciplines to include, Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA, Cardio Kick Boxing, Zumba, Yoga and much more. I plan to continue to visit John's Gym whenever I find myself back in Austin.Review update:I moved back to Austin after getting out of the military in the summer of 2013. I had visited John's Gym while on leave and my first impression was so positive that I decided to join the gym upon returning to Austin. Since my first visit in July 2012, John's Gym has changed Jiu Jitsu affiliations and some instructors, however the gym and Jiu Jitsu team remain the same positive synergistic group that attracted me to the gym in the first place. The John's Gym Jiu Jitsu program is one that can teach for all levels from a day 1 beginner, to a seasoned competitor. Black Belt Instructor Darrin Lillian brings over 20 years of Jiu Jitsu experience and has a very positive and approachable teaching style. If Jiu Jitsu is not your interest, John's Gym also offers a variety of other disciplines to include Boxing, Muay Thai as well Kettle Bell strength and conditioning.

Since joining John's Gym here in Austin my BJJ game has really stepped up. The instruction is very practical to use and implement into your game right away and the instructors go out of their way to help and train with you outside of class. This gym has a family feel to it that you can't find at other gyms. I competed at the Austin Open a few months after joining and with John in my corner I took Gold! I'm very proud to be part of the John's Gym family.A background on my search: I just moved here a few months ago from Denver CO where I trained at one of the top BJJ gyms in CO. Finding a good gym here in Austin was one of my main concerns. I had a list of about 10 recommended gyms to try out. John's gym in Austin was the first one I tried and after one session I made my decision. I didn't even bother to visit the other ones and I'm happy about my decision.
