Literally probably the best mma gym in NJ. I tried other places and they don't compare. Hold on to your undies because this review is going to be long.Firstly, the teachers know what they're doing, but most importantly, they know what you're doing too, meaning they pay attention and correct your form and have no issues stopping to help you if you ask. They will teach you important skills, not just related to mma but to life in general.Secondly, the workout before the actual training is amazing. You want to die and be reborn the next day? This place will give you that workout, no questions asked. Never have I done so many different types of exercises that target so many different parts of your body. This gym made me strong.Thirdly, the teachers are always switching up the combinations. You will learn new things while committing foundation techniques to muscle memory. I'm pretty sure that if I didn't do any mma for a few years and got jumped, the things I learned here would pop right back up to help me. Also, no one pushes you to move forward unless you're actually ready. This is key. Other gyms will have you spar with others, but I've gotten injured and sometimes even pushed into fighting harder than I knew I wanted because other students/sparring partners are not professionals and don't know how to not hurt you. This is a big problem in other gyms. I would rather be humble and wait for myself to be at the skill level necessary before getting into the more advanced classes that have you spar. You can always ask one of the professionals to test you and see what you're made of if you think you can move up. This was a huge reason why I left a gym I had to go to because I moved away from all star mma.Lastly, everyone is respectful. The students and teachers and owner of the gym makes you feel welcome. There is no feeling inadequate at this gym. No one treats you like you're less because you're just starting out and everyone will take a second to try to help you if you need it. I felt judged at other places.I have yet to find a place like this so far near where I moved to and I stopped training entirely because everywhere else is a waste of money. I dont know where I will move to next but if the circumstances of my life allow me to, I'd like to be back in Union county just for this place. It's not even as expensive as other places so it's definitely worth it price-wise too.Take the step, guys. Go to allstar because it will change your life. Im female and I can testify that I no longer feel afraid walking down the street by myself or going anywhere by myself after going to this place.Best of luck on all of your endeavors!

Got a groupon to use at this place and the owner told me he no longer accepts groupons and wouldn't offer me what I had paid for in order to take classes here. The most he could do was offer me a free class yet I had paid for 10 classes through the site. Not cool.

Jamal and his staff are fantastic, world class instructors that care about their students well being, learning and advancement. Jamal works with Professional (USF, WSoF, Bellator, CFFC) athletes and beginners. Great place to train. Don't hesitate to go here, you will be welcomed by a friendly family of like minded athletes.-Jeff Marsh, Edge School of Wrestling, Hoboken

The key differentiator here is the people. There's solid participation from kids and adults of all ages, sizes, and genders. The professors and instructors are talented, creative, and will inspire you to be pushed to the best of your ability. They take progression seriously - those who move up earn it. You get in shape while learning a craft that can benefit you your whole life. I highly recommend giving it a shot.

I love this place. I have been going there for a few months now. The instructors and everyone in general, including students, are great. Besides the obvious benefit of learning BJJ from very knowledgeable and talented instructors, I have gone down a pant size since I joined, my chest is getting hard, my stamina has increased considerably, I lost at least an inch of belly and It's helping me quit smoking (among other things).BJJ can be a little intimidating for some people but trust me, these guys make you feel at home. Check it out!

I dont train at AllStar on a normal basis as I live in PA but when I'm able, to I love going up there. Renzo Gracie Blackbelt Jamal Patterson is a top notch instructor. He teaches and emphasizes good solid technique and fundamentals in a really safe clean environment. His students are some of the nicest I have been around and they are tough as hell! All in all, I would tell you that if you are thinking about beginning BJJ or moving to the area and looking for a spot to train. Your new home needs to be Allstar BJJ\MMA
