Bryan, the head coach and owner is one of the nicest and most humble people I've ever met. My partner and I visited from London and were staying nearby so we were only there a few times but Bryan made sure we felt at home every time we went. It's a great place to start martial arts because the coaches are so patient, but equally, if you are a competitive athlete in the sport there are plenty of well accomplished fighters in the gym also. Beautiful muay Thai, beautiful people. Hope to go back again. Thanks for everything Boxing Works! Alanna & Greg

Coach Duke is amazing. His boxing class is an amazing workout and has a focus on the fundamentals. The perfect place for someone to hone their skills or for someone just starting out. I hadn't had any experience prior to joining and I never felt like I was in over my head. The new location has anything you would look for in a boxing gym.

los angeles: the workout capital of the world! you have yoga studios, cardio gyms, weight rooms and martial arts schools. so what differentiates them all? what makes one more special than the other? i would say look at the management/owners and their philosophy. and boxing works in hermosa beach stands out!i met bryan popejoy (he's the long-time owner and i call him ajarn bryan) several years ago and my first impression of him was "ajarn bryan is the nicest and most humble man i have ever met in my life!" over the years, my first impression was the correct impression. you'll find out that he is a champion muay thai fighter; he has deeply rooted connections in the muay thai world. so, to me, he isn't someone i would expect to be humble. but he is. and i admire that in him and try to mirror that as well. it helps me to be a better person, and not just physically.so, it is this culture and philosophy that resonates throughout the whole school. this place isn't about glamor and glitz. if that is what you are looking for, to show off and wear the latest fashion at the gym, this place isn't for you! the gym is a no-nonsense kind of place with challenging workouts and quality instruction. it's not about who can pound out the fastest kicks or punches. but about learning things right and sharing and helping others.i think the workouts are tailored to each person as well. you're pushed just hard enough, but not too far so far that workouts aren't fun anymore. and it isn't so easy that you would get bored and feel unchallenged. this is the goldilocks gym, it's just right! and just right for you!check it out, and you'll see what i mean. thanks, steve
