Just took my first day here. I used to train at a very reputable gym down in Miramar, but I live in Escondido and the commute there was an issue I would like to avoid. I used to train 2 years ago but am very picky on where I'm going to invest my time, health, and money into a gym membership. For the past 3 weeks I have been taking free trial classes all over San Diego county. Mostly NORTH San Diego County. Now let me tell you, ALL the decent gyms are down in San Diego. In North County there are literally none. There was one gym in Oceanside that I liked but again, I wanted to avoid a long commute. San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts to me, is THE ONLY amazing gym in Northeast San Diego County, maybe even in the entire north county. I have been looking for an emphasis on technique for Muay Thai, Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo. A lot of other gyms will focus more on "fitness". The programs incorporate both. Exactly what I wanted. If I wanted to go to a gym that focuses on fitness, I might as well go to a generic LA Fitness or 24 hour gym.Now let's discuss my first day here. It is located in San Marcos which is a relatively safe city. I walked in to a beautifully spacious establishment and most of all....SANITARY AND CLEAN. I walked down to the morning Muay Thai class and was invited by friendly students and most of all a friendly coach. The students and coach automatically pushed me and motivated me to the point where I automatically felt the family oriented vibes the gym emits. We warmed up, and being out of shape for 2 years, they kept pushing me with positive remarks. After we started to work on technique and Jesus, the coach, was thorough and very hands on working with us. When class was done, it ended with positivity and embedded an amazing first impression into my brain. I knew that this gym was the one.The owner, is big time. He is highly certified and has so much experience under his belt for Judo and BJJ that it's overwhelming. He still competes to! The gym has been one of the most longest standing gyms in San Diego. They're doing something right. I initially came for the Muay Thai classes but it looks like I will be committing to Jiu-Jitsu and Judo just as much as my love for striking. If you are a picky student looking for technique and fitness. Your gym is here.

Paulo is an amazing instructor, focusing on key fundamentals critical to making techniques work. He also drives a strong balance between working hard and playing safe so you can come back and train day after day. Not only are Paulo and Adam Schmaltz great instructors, but every student here is invested in developing one another, so I get great tips from higher belts every day.

My 7 year daughter training Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and Judo with Sensei Paulo Fernando at San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy for 3 years now. I couldn't find a better place and environment for my daughter to be at. I can't wait for my two boys to be old enough so I can enroll them at the school. I would recommend SDBJJ ACADEMY for any parent willing to have the kids well trained in Brazilian JiuJitsu and Judo. Thanks Sensei Paulo for everything.

We had both our son and daughter in the program last year. Had a great experience and would highly recommend. The owners and the teachers really care about helping the kids develop not only with the sport, but emotionally and physically to help with anything they do in their lives. Our son particularily benefited from the program and it seemed to help his coordination and confidence. We plan on enrolling him again in the program next year as he has asked many times to rejoin. Highly recommend!

Whether you're a novice or a seasoned veteran this gym is a warm and welcoming place where you are family. We've been there less than a year and I would recommend this gym to anyone whose ever thought of trying judo or jiu-jitsu. If you have younger children, head instructor/owner Paulo Fernando and his staff are amazing with young athletes. You won't be disappointed!!

I have my 7 years old son with San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy now for 3 months. yesterday a kid tried to bully him at the playground and he was able to escape safely from the bully. Myself and my husband are very happy with the school. professor Paulo Fernando is always coaching the kids. Very family friendly environment. I would recommend San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy to everyone interested in Martial Arts.

Great family environment! Proof? I've had my son and daughter train here since they were six and seven and they are now 17 and 16. When I'm not around the other blackbelts watch over them as if they were their kids. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my family.Paulo is the root structure of Jiu Jitsu in San Diego County with over 30 years in the sport of Judo and Jiu-jitsu actively participating and not speculating. As far as the adult side of training I've been training here for 10 years and am continually being challenged physically and mentally. So if you want an academy that brings the best out of you physically and spiritually then this is your new home and welcome to the family.

SDBJJ is an outstanding place to learn BJJ, Judo, Muay Thai, and Boxing. Sensei Paulo is an incredibly skilled practitioner. He's an even better instructor. In fact, all of his certified instructors are outstanding instructors. My son has been training with Paulo for over 2 years, and my son's success in BJJ and Judo has helped him become better at all the things he does, including academics and club sports.I've been training in various martial arts for over 30 years. To date, San Diego Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is the best facility I've ever trained at. Being that I'm a disabled veteran, I have some serious medical issues. Despite my limitations, Paulo and the other instructors at SDBJJ have worked with me in order to help develop my skills. Regardless of your current level of conditioning or physical limitations, SDBJJ can help you develop as a martial artist. If you decide to train with us at SDBJJ Academy, you won't be disappointed!

Hands down the best academy not only for new or seasoned BJJ practitioners, but a great place for kids. Every instructor is top notch and take the time to help each student. Paulo welcomes everyone with open arms and is a class act. There is no other place I would rather train or have my children learn this great art. SDBJJ changed our lives.

i've been training at sdbjj for about four years now and I love this academy, it is very clean and everybody is very friendly and willing to help improve your game, I would highly recommend this school to anyone. 4000 square feet spring loaded floor makes the difference. we are the only bjj school that offer high quality Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the same place. sensei Paulo Fernando holds a 5th degree black belt in bjj and a 5th degree black belt in judo as well. you should come and try our school. best in San Diego county
