San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts

I've been a student here for almost four years. When you step into the dojo you are immediately welcomed by Sensei Paulo, Sensei Adam, Katia, Jesus or one of the staff. This is the place where you can comfortably learn the martial arts in a focused, family friendly environment. If you are a beginner, it won't take long for you to see that this is not a macho, testosterone driven, "knuckle dragger" environment full of bolstered egos. You will be brought into the fold and given the appropriate attention so you can quickly learn the basics in order to move forward in the arts. If you are an intermediate or experienced practitioner, you will be challenged with players of all levels. Sparring competition is intense with focus on learning and safety at all times. Respect for your partners in this aspect is a must and part of the beauty of the discipline of the arts.This place is great for the kiddos too! The kids program is excellent. I have two young boys and judo and jiu jitsu has helped them gain confidence and coordination. For moms and dads worried about turning their kids into bullies, I can tell you that you can expect quite the opposite. The arts are not taught for this purpose and your kids will learn to respect others.For the ladies out there, be assured that you are absolutely welcome here too! There are many women involved in Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu and Judo. Respect is given to all students and the women are no exception. This is a safe environment for all.I don't personally take part in the Studio Brazil workouts or Muay Thai but I have seen and spoken to those that do. All that I have spoken too are very satisfied with the experience and the workouts. They work hard and it shows.So get in here and become part of the experience, the arts, and the SDBJJ family!Kevin

Our 6 year old son has been coming to SDBJJ for about 6 months now and we could not be happier with our decision to enroll him here. The gym is clean and much larger than any other studio we have come across. What truly makes the learning experience incredible are the dedicated senseis that show up everyday. They are patient, dedicated, experienced and engaging all at the same time. We love SDBJJ!!!

I don't normally write many reviews, but I felt that SDBJJ deserves much praise from me, and my family. My son was not even 5 years old when we stumbled onto the Academy. I knew nothing about mixed martial arts, but my boy needed an outlet. I read a few reviews, spoke to Paulo on the phone and decided to check it out. I was so impressed by the coaching staff's ability to teach all ages, while maintaining an air of FUN, that I had to sign my son up. The changes I have seen in him just after a few months have been significant, and I honestly feel I owe it to SDBJJ.The friends I have met there will all say the same thing: SDBJJ has changed my child for the better, and I'm so happy I found this place.

My son loves the working out at San Diego Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! This was his first foray into martial arts and we are sure we picked the right style and location. Watching the kids wrestle around on the ground in a safe environment and learning the techniques that will help them defend and safely control the spaces around them is so satisfying as a parent. The teachers are really paying attention to each student and offering a caring, compassionate, disciplined environment. Paulo and his team are really great at what they do!

My family loves SDBJJ!!! Paulo and his amazing staff is so welcoming and talented! This truly is a very family friendly school. Our son is thriving and loves training here. Paulo and his staff really care about each child and go above and beyond in each class. I see my sons confidence building and he is learning valuable character building lessons in each class he attends!

At first I was very apprehensive about taking Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, because I had no prior martial arts background/experience. Paulo and Adam, as well as the rest of the academy made me feel right at home. Everyone here is so friendly and inviting, the instruction is top notch and you definitely feel a sense of family and community here. If you're looking to take bjj, make new friends, and learn how to protect yourself then you can't go wrong here!

Best part of my week is coming to SDBJJ. The instructors Paolo and Adam are incredibly welcoming and have a great system if you really want to learn you jitsu and get the best workout of your life. Everyone is super friendly and safe, and it's a full blown gym in addition. 10/10

SDBJJ is a great place to get your little ones involved in martial arts. The staff at SDBJJ are very approachable and are great with the kids.

I have been training at this school for 4 years because of it's authentic roots. Our instuctor Paulo brings a lifetime of experience direct from Brazil. I enjoy the family environment and mixed students with many females.
