We moved to Tampa at the end of April & now go to Carrollwood Y. We miss the St Pete Y, it is so much bigger than Carrollwood & the pool is inside rather than outside. Karen & Heather who lead Silver Sneakers classes in St Pete are both wonderful ladies & did a fantastic job.

I have benn going to the East Coast (Boca Raton, FL) for business and using the Y down there. This experience has given me such a greater appreciation for Jim and Heather Gill YMCA. At Jim & Heather Gill Y the staff is much more helpful and friendly, the people working out there are great; respectful of the weights ( they re-rack), and the facility is so much cleaner.

Pretty standard for YMCA. The biggest issue is not enough weightlifting equipment, rather limited hours, and the pool closes for several hours neary every day in the summer due to lightning. It's an indoor pool but has an outdoor pump. (For some inexplicable reason)It's hard to get in the rythm of a good aquatic workout here and I wouldn't come to soley use their weightroom. I'd look elsewhere if you are a swimmer.

Typical y with a bit of discomfort for those that need assistance with a scholarship or low income members as for me I must say it felt like I was in violation of some hidden law or about to commit a crime , And if I had to rate the staff I would easily give two different ratings one for the attendance (very high) and another for the administration( very low ). My personal experience was one of dissatisfaction with the over stretch hand of the administration for personal information on my family members income . Otherwise the new workout equipment is a long time coming and well received by new and old members, yet the next up for renovation has to be the pool because the pool area is not healthy and the water quality reveals that daily , yet the gym ceiling is peeling and the paint chips float in the air in the gym daily where gym users maybe breathing this toxic air daily .

I went in to this YMCA having heard good things-but I was very disappointed with the way that I was treated. The front staff did not great me, or look up from what they were doing to acknowledge me. When I told them I had just moved to St. Pete, and asked if they did a trial class or a few days free, they were very rude and told me no, I had to pay $15. I went at 8:30am on a Tuesday and the place was packed. I am upset that a facility so close to me treats people so poorly. So much for a welcome to the community.

I'm a silver sneakers member, I love all the activities and classes geared to senior citizens. The pool is wonderful, completely covered, no sorry about getting sunburned, in Florida that's a big plus. The pool is temperature control so you can swim all year. The fitness room was recently upgraded with all new machines. My only complaint is the parking, there needs to be more concrete or at least gravel spaces. It's a great way to meet new friends and do something for yourself.

Nice, clean, friendly.Children seem to be kept busy an active. Young adults very attentive, watching over little ones.Facilities are under renovation, but seems to be on schedule, an not to disruptive to regularworkouts.Senior's stay active, seem to enjoy the facility. I know I do.The pool is a nice workout for me.Generally I use the free weights,, and stationary bikes, a pool work out...cup of coffee and home for nap. Ha ha,, Great place for family an friends.....It is more like a community Center, not your father's YMCA...Very nicely run..Good luck with the renovation.

Don't let them fool you. Like most other "fitness centers" they're all about the money. (The original mission of the YMCA has long-since been lost on the modern-day corporation). We went in, having been told that there were scholarships available for low-income families. They insisted on financial records (acceptable), but would only accept direct-debit from my checking account (regular members can use credit cards).I'm raising 6 kids on VERY limited income. We're on food stamps (EBT) and cash assistance, so my checking account balance is always low. And they want the right to auto-debit from there monthly? Not so fast...

This facility is great in terms as to the equipment and cleanliness. The problem I have is with the pool. I have been there many times (I am a new member) as this is my home "Y" but the water quality is poor at best. I have not seen the water non-cloudy since I have been going there. This is a health concern to me. I bough a 7 in 1 test kit to test the water and the balance is off. It has multiple times tested off the chart for combined chlorine. For those of you unaware of this test it is the gold standard of pool health. I called the "Y" to speak with the pool director and only got voice jail with no return call. Love the location just wish they got a grip on the health of the pool.

It local.its a family gym where no one is made to feel like they don't fit in. The experience from the time you go in no matter what time it is you are welcomed with a smile. Abundant classes throughout any given day. Also no matter where I go in Pinellas county there's a YMCA close by. Love it.
