T-Town MMA / Checkmat has been a great place to learn and train. Supportive learning from friendly and skilled instructors. Great way to meet active/healthy people in Tacoma.

Took adult classes there and have nothing but positive things to say. No sales pressure, contracts, or upselling- just quality training with awesome people. Sent my son there for a couple of years as well and was impressed with his growth both in the sport and as a person. Quality all around. Can't recommend enough.

Great team of teachers at this school with a variety of backgrounds. Laid back, inviting, relaxed, but they'll put you to work and make sure you learn the art. 10/10 would recommend this school to anyone and I've bounced around a couple of gyms before landing here.

Loved this gym! I was going through Tacoma and wanted to drop into a class. I found T-town MMA and checked out their women's and no-gi class. Everyone was so friendly, the instruction was top-notch, and the overall vibe was relaxed. I really learn well in that type of environment. Will definitely be coming back again in the future!!

I definitely recommend this gym! If you’re looking to learn more about jiu jitsu/mma or kickboxing, get into better shape or just to learn something new- this is the place. I have been a member for over two years now. The people at this gym are now like family to me. Everyone is very knowledgeable and they go out of their way to make you feel welcome. 10/10 all around!

Being in the military and frequently moving as a result, it is often hard to find a place to train that will welcome you immediately. Professor Jimmy and the rest of the T-Town family welcomed me with open arms the day I walked in three years ago. I’ve trained all over the world and I can attest to not only the quality of the community, but the ironclad skills of many of the practitioners and the attentive instruction from all of the coaches. If you are looking for MMA, kickboxing/Muay Thai, gi/no-gi jiujitsu, or just a place to stay healthy and make friends, please come check us out. You won’t regret it!

I've been going to this gym for the last three years and I couldn't recommend it more emphatically.Since day one Coach Jimmy has been exceptionally inviting and made me feel like part of the team. The gym is a reflection of the culture that the coaches push of team above self. This is the Miagi-Do and not Cobra Kai.As a senior belt(brown belt) I definitely found the challenge from partners I was looking for, and the opportunity to learn from coaches I needed.
