Been coming to the Castro Valley gym for 2 decades as it's my home gym. Don't underestimate it's small size... it packs a punch and it has all you'll need to reach your goals. It has for me. The staff is incredible and are always welcoming and helpful. Eric in particular stands out and is an asset to 24 Hour. He's always encouraging and is looking out for the best experience for anyone who walk in the doors. Lately, an influx of younger members of highschool age, which include my daughter and son via the buddy pass option is a great way to pass on the gift of health and fitness. Seeing that this next generation valuing this is priceless and the Castro Valley gym is part of that success!

It's time to change the name to Closed @10pm Fitness

Worst gym in the area. Most staff is alright but will not help at all if you have any questions or concerns. Gym itself is really old and machines constantly break. Treadmills were broken for over 6 months, weight machines break every other month and, because it’s such a small space, you really are left with very few options to substitute. Really expensive for what it is, would not recommend coming here if you can go elsewhere. Hours on the weekends are not ideal either, as they close really early (aka not 24h open). So unless you are willing to come in early in the day to find no people, I would again, not recommend coming here at all.

It's a clean gym that is very small and with limited equipment that's about 30-40 years old. It's usually very crowded no matter what time you go just because it's very limited on space. Since I really don't like waiting on the equipment, I usually go to San Ramon instead. That gym is huge with loads of machines and weights. I think the CV location needs to move somewhere bigger to accommodate the demand and remodel as well.

This is a gym and it has heavy weight. You need to lift heavy weight? You can do that here. The good? The staff was nice. The bad? Lots of broken machines, and there was maybe 6 people out of the several hundred I saw at the gym actually wiped off the machines. So that is gross. Also, the smell of red onions and greasy bacon waft over to the group workout room from the adjacent subway. Maybe you are into that, but just thought you should know.

Lets break it down:Pros: Good if youre looking for a quick workout. Specific times of the day, you dont see as much people working out.Cons: The place is small - cramped workout areas which allows few equipments for use. Only has 2 barbell benches, 1 barbell squat area, 1 powerlifting station, 1 smith machine, and the rest are dumbells, cables, and other isolation machines. They have a separate cardio area and a studio. Dont know about womens area, but the men's are quite dirty. Im sorry, the entire gym rather has cleanliness issues. Some equipments are old and are rotting (fyi the leg press machine esp). Lastly, the staff. Most of the ladies in the counter are very welcoming and light, yet the men are okay. Could easily smile, but seems like they need to have a vacation. What I would love to see a coach thats very nice. The PT (two men), have attitude issues. Both carry themselves high, which they both deserve with high praise, but forget that they're just like everyone else - people. I was thinking of getting one of the coaches to train me, but after an incident where the gym trainer just ignored me, I would rather watch chris elkin or matt ogus lol. The incident was, the asian coach was resting before his set, I asked if he was using the bench on the side of his area, and he stared me in the eye through the mirror in front of him and just went and did his workout. Like seriously - narcissist and egomaniac.

This is has been my regular gym for the last 2 months. When we first started going here it seemed like a hidden gem and we're excited to go. Absolutely loved the location being next to Safeway so we could go grocery shopping after. The employees have always been nice and it wasn't always crazy busy. But over time it's gotten absolutely insane. 3/4 of the time I can't get on a treadmill at all because 4-7 have always been broken and there's 14. So I started doing the stairmasters. Then 5 out of 6 were out of commission for a while but luckily 4 were fixed but now those are busy because of the treadmills. If you wanna do any free weights, forget about it. I still love the employees but I've noticed when I tell them a part of a machine is broken, it's a 50/50 on if anything is done about it. I'm thinking the maintenance person maybe doesn't get enough hours or the response time on parts is terrible so I don't wanna completely knock them down. I do wish this gym was open more hours because the closest '24 hour' 24 hour fitness is at bayfair and that one is a no for me.

Mostly good, some times of the day its a bit crazy. This is an "Active" version of 24 Hour Fitness, it has lockerroom, showers, etc. Weights, some machines, Cardio equipment/room and GroupX room with scheduled classes, however generally in the early afternoon, that room is available for your own thing. I like that it has all the basics that you want in a gym without the "Country Club" aspects - the "Sport" versions of 24 Hour FItness generally have a pool and/or basketball courts, of those two, I'd only use the pool, however, they are all too short for any serious swim workout. Going down scale from "Active" is "Express" it's main problem is no showers and cut down on all the other main features of an "Active".

I personally love this place. I go here with my sister, the gym is clean, the workers there are super nice and they have every machine and free weight there that you need.
