Here's a long review, but you can save yourself time and just go in and give Advantage a try. They will meet you where you are at and set up a path to make it to your goals. If you want more details, read on.My family has been part of Advantage for almost 4 years. We were first attracted by the programs for kids, but quickly realized it made sense for the adults in the house. I had been strength training at home for years, but definitely hit a plateau and was getting almost nothing out of it. But I had tried gyms and the Y in the past and really did not like them.Advantage is so different - the exercises are functional and constantly changing - but also my workout plan is designed for progression, not just random new exercises of the week (which is what happens at some gyms I have tried). Having sleds to push and walls to slam medicine balls off creates a workout you can't get at home, but more important is the watchful eye of the trainers. When things are going well, they help me push to the next level. When I have an injury to nurse (from doing things outside the gym or a flare up of one of my "nagging" injuries), they help me work around it and rehab so that it is less likely to recur. for example, I have gone from thinking strength training means my knee will hurt to understanding my well designed fitness program is what stops my knee from hurting. For me, it is the perfect mix of a gym with structure and being able to make it what I want it to be. And their service is not just in the gym. In the past when I traveled they would check the facilities where I was staying and provide me a workout (on one trip with my kid's soccer team some of the other parents copied the workout they designed because it made such a great use of the facilities in such a fun way). During the pandemic and physical shutdowns, the personal touch has been there. They helped me figure out what home equipment to add, designed workouts for me (and monitored them to make changes on a regular basis after talking with me about how things are going) and even loaned my family equipment. The most amazing thing to me is how Advantage works for each person - many of who are coming from different backgrounds and with different preferences, goals and fitness conditions. I enjoy strength training and like to focus on the exercises when working out. I chat with people before and after, but am able to do the workout in my own "zone". Plenty of others there do the same. The Advantage trainers also noticed I am not as good at pushing myself on cardio or mobility, so they work that in and make sure I get it (I even started to look forward to it). My wife has never liked strength training, but Advantage created a community that made it work and helps her set goals. They interact throughout the workout with each other, encouraging and enjoying the company (and have become friends that interact outside the workouts as well). Not only did she met her ever increasing goals (crushing to full sets of pullups in less than 6 weeks from not being able to do one for example - all based on a program one of the trainers created when she said it was a goal), but she shared that with others and received regular encouragement from the group. Whatever you need, they design the program that gets you there in a way that works for you. The personal touch means all types of people can benefit from Advantage - it just depends on what you want.

I'm a person who has been active most of my life and never really a "gym" person. However, as I got older, my internal motivator stopped working as well as it once did. Around that time a friend referred me to Brian and his team at Advantage Personal Training. Extremely glad she did. Advantage is less like a gym and more like one of your favorite restaurants where you happen to work out, instead of eat. The staff is extremely welcoming and friendly, they are also very well trained, which was important to me, someone who did not have a lot of experience with formal workout techniques. Working out can be fun, who knew? The thing I really like about Advantage is the feeling that someone other than me cares about my health and wellness. I can go whenever I want and am motivated to keep going because I feel the results - greater strength and tone throughout my entire body.

I started working out at Advantage Strength because I wanted to improve my hockey play on the ice. What I didn’t know would happen is everything became easier. My knees didn’t hurt walking up and down the stairs. My shoulders became stronger for summer kayaking. My lower back stopped hurting. And of course I became stronger on the ice. The guys are great and so friendly. It’s a welcoming community!

I was very apprehensive when I first joined Advantage. I had just turned 49 and realized I needed to do more than walk the dog for exercise if I was going to ward off old age for as long as possible. I had read that strength training was important for women over 50, so I decided to check out this place that several friends had recommended. The free weights and TRX straps were intimidating at first, but with the patient help of the coaches, I became a pro in no time. I was given an individualized plan that was challenging, but not prohibitively so, and enough variety to keep me coming back. I started out going three mornings a week, but eventually worked up to five days most weeks--something I had never done before. Best of all, I met other like-minded women who encouraged and inspired me. I can't say enough about the commitment Brian and his team have to their members, offering creative options when gyms were closed to keep us active and connected. Their efforts to keeps everyone safe during in-person workouts go above and beyond the required protocols. With the focus on personalized workouts, Advantage is a great fit for people of all ages and fitness levels. I recommend it to everyone I know!

I have been a member for over two and a half years and this place has been quite a fit for me. Gym experiences in the past have lasted 6 month to 1 and a half years - because I get bored.Advantage classes (strength and circuit) have kept me coming back. The staff is amazing! You get expert coaching with a personal touch. The staff know your name and get to know you. It makes coming to the gym more than checking a box on your to do list. I highly recommend giving Advantage Strength a try!

I began working out at Advantage about four years ago--hard to believe it's been that long! I was not, and am not, a fitness nut. My workout past is littered with abandoned gym memberships. I began coming to Advantage after realizing that I'd gained 30 pounds during the previous ten years, had the beginnings of arthritis, and was generally unhappy with the way I felt in my body. I found the structure of the workouts--small group training with personalized exercises--to be much more conducive to success than the usual 'oh, I should go to the gym but I don't feel like it' mantra I'd fallen into in the past. Within a few months, I'd lost nearly all the weight, and my arthritis was just about gone. I credit the coaches at Advantage for this rejuvenating turn--they are helpful, friendly, and very knowledgeable. They regularly adjust my workout to meet any specific needs or concerns I have at the time. Honestly, Advantage has been a lifesaver, especially during these last months. I highly recommend the team at Advantage if you're looking to turn things around, fitness-wise. It has been a real revelation for me. Definitely one of the best health decisions I've ever made.

Advantage is the best of all of the worlds of gyms. There is COMMUNITY. I really felt like I was a part of something. The classes are in a GROUP SETTING but you also get INDIVIDUAL ATTENTION to your own fitness needs and growth. It's like having a personal trainer but in a group setting which helped me feel accountable for my progress. The trainers at Advantage know how to push you physically in a way that is best for your body. They pay attention to your form so that you improve safely. It is a place where I always felt motivated and excited to go. There is no other gym in Ann Arbor like Advantage. Highly recommend.

I had the pleasure of a month long membership with Advantage Strength and had an excellent experience. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful, I worked with Erick most often and he was great. Simultaneously providing me with the support I needed to do things the right way while allowing me the space to complete my exercises at my own pace. Class sizes are small to support individualized support. The most amazing thing about my experience: In just 30 days I saw and felt gains in strength, agility, and overall health. I am an active person already and my experience with the fine folks at Advantage Strength was like icing on the cake!

I was a member at Advantage for about 2 years and it has been by far the best gym I’ve been apart of (sadly I had to move for work). As an ex-athlete I like that extra push from a coach and Advantage was the perfect place for me. I received personal programming based on my goals and needs after receiving a fitness assessment from Brian. I saw a ton of improvement in my weak areas, became a lot stronger and overall healthier during my time there. The coaches are awesome, very knowledgeable, and super supportive. The other members are really friendly and fun to workout with. I always looked forward to my workout.I would recommend Advantage to anyone looking for a place to workout, improve their fitness, or work on their over health goals.
