Overall, I like In-Shape clubs - I have been to all the Bakersfield locations except White Lane - but this particular location is busier -> dirtier than the others, and the membership sales staff are aggressive, manipulative, and argumentative. Or at least that was my experience when I took my elderly mother in there to get a 7-day trial pass. The only redeemable qualities of this particular club are the hydro-massage bed, the massage chairs, and the on-site access to a massage therapist (the latter of which is not included in any membership, but is nice for convenience sake). If it wasn't for those three things, neither I nor my mother would ever return to this location. It would be nice if some of the other In-Shape clubs, besides the outrageously-expensive and uppity Seven-Oaks location, offered those VIP services.

This is the second time I have dealt with "Devonte." Not helpful at all. Lacks customer service skills. I have been a member for years and have always received excellent service from corporate and local branches. Totally disappointed. Don't work with this member counselor.

Overall, this is a nice gym. However, there seems to be a miscommunication between front desk staff and office workers. A tad bit pricey as well. Why should it cost me an exorbitant amount of money to improve my teens exercise habits? Exercise is important for physical and mental health, aside from paying a psychologist to create healthy cognitive functioning, I'd rather have them sweat a few days a week and get the same result.

I was really disappointed with the customer service that was provided to me and my father. The guy that assisted us Diego I believe was his name was really stuck up and rude. I would recommend going to 24 hour fitness instead. They are much better.

I have been a member of In-Shape for 2 years now. Lately, the gym has become excessively crowded and the facilities have deteriorated. By normal standards, the men's locker room is filthy. The free weight room is grossly under-equipped for the amount of members In-Shape has irresponsibly taken on. Even through all of this, I have been a pretty loyal gym-goer at In-Shape. Today, however, I walked in and asked for a small towel which I have done literally every single time I have walked through In-Shape's front door. I was then informed that I was not signed up for towel service and I would be required to pay an additional $4.99 per month. They decided to tell me this 23 months in to my 24 month contract. Now, I understand $4.99 is a small amount but this is in addition to the $39.99 per month that I already pay. Fortunately, my contract expires next month. I will not be renewing it.

Just love this place :) great people and everyone greets you with a smile. Not to mention the equipment there is top notch and works all the time.

love this gym.. can't go without.. it's always clean and everyone is so friendly.. only flaw is that only the legal guardian or grandparent can put a kid in the day care.. which sucks when i want to go to the gym and i have to babysit my niece plus the slides closed

What a bad experience. Avoid this gym if you have other options. I've been a member for years and no longer bound by a contract. When I went to cancel (which you have to do in person), I thought I was going to need to call Bakersfield Police Department to get the paperwork filed. I still don't have confirmation that I'm cancelled, just waiting for it to be approved. What a racket.

I think its a great club. I've been a member for almost 2 years now. Its always clean and the staff is good. I haven't tried to quit yet but most fitness clubs make it hard to quit from my experience. Its never too crowded where I have to wait for a machine even at the peak hours. I don't do the free weights so I'm not sure about them. They have a women's area with decent machines (not just an after thought with whatever machines they had left over). My kids like the kid section of the gym too. They like playing basketball in there. I use the pool a lot too which they keep clean and I haven't had to fight for a lane. Cost wise - you get what you pay for. There are cheaper gyms in Bakersfield but none have all the amenities that this one has - 2 pools, saunas, hot tub, large women's section, free weights, a variety of classes, spinning, large kids area, etc.The best part for us so far has been the summer camp this year. I signed up for 8 weeks expecting the kids to hate it after the first few weeks. We are going on week 6 and the kids aren't complaining about going yet. It gives the kids something to do instead of playing video games and its reasonably priced. My kids are looking pretty trim after 6 weeks. I do hope they bring back the summer camp next year.
