New York Sports Club, located at 1 Bulfinch Pl, Boston, MA, offers a mixed bag of experiences according to its patrons. The gym is praised for its friendly staff, ample space, and a variety of equipment that support a diverse range of workout routines. Many members appreciate the clean environment and convenient downtown location, which is especially beneficial for those working nearby. However, significant complaints about outdated, poorly maintained equipment and the condition of the facilities cannot be ignored. Issues with customer service and billing have also left a negative impression on many members.

While some patrons report positive experiences with personal trainers and classes, chronic problems like broken lockers, insufficient cleanliness, and restrictive cancellation policies undermine the gym's potential. Avoid this place like the plague. Machines are always broken, extremely dirty if they are working, TVs have about 6 channels but usually aren't even working to begin with. Don't bother notifying the employees of any issues as they will not care. There is no corporate customer service either, so you are completely on your own. There are more employees working behind the desk or in offices trying to get more customers to sign up and pay a monthly fee than there are to clean the equipment or perform any general maintenance. Membership contracts are shady, with many different clauses all geared towards keeping you paying your monthly fee at all costs.Overall, I can't emphasize how terrible of a customer experience I've had at BSC, and if you join the club after reading this review I have pity on your soul.

Pro: locationCons:- Cardio equipment poorly maintained- showers and dressing rooms are disgusting- Customer service is not considered in any single process of this organization - from billing to day to day.- They will charge you for everything they possibly can - even 30 days after you cancel. Pricing deals are specifically to generate new leads as people realize there are better options- customer loyalty is exploited rather than celebrated - you may find others are paying less than half of what you do based on the time of year they sign up.- Contracts are inflexible, Unaccommodating,- Had two issues with billing and collections where they had been double charging me for 4 months. It took me half a year to get money back.In short , Keep shopping. Liars and thieves.

It would be nice if they opened earlier than 6am. Other BSCs open at 530am. That half hour can make a real difference for some people. Other than that, no complaints.

i joined boston sports club in 2013. i went to 1 class which was very popular with fitness enthusiasts. the rates were reasonable for a gym of this caliber. this gym also has TRX rope isometric training

It's your typical money hungry gym that will squeeze every cent out of you that they can. Besides that the amenities are questionable. The sauna is rarely in functioning condition while the showers are grimy. The gym is extremely packed from 5pm - 8:30pm and the lack of weight lifting equipment becomes a serious factor at that time. If you can make it in after the rush you have until 10pm (employees start asking you to leave around 9:45pm) to get in a good workout. If you live around the North End or Government Center area I would seriously suggest that you go out of your way to find another gym even if it is not in such a convenient location as BSC.

Good gym, but they really do need more space, which is very tough in Downtown Boston. This BSC services many of the Beacon Hill residents and Government empolyees. I've never been to a Gym so Jam packed at 6a, it goes through a earie empty lull right at 8:15a. Staff is friendly though! and the place is reletively clean.

Great trainers and classes, terrible management. Multiple membership team mislead or flat out lied to keep me in the gym. If they promise you anything, get it in writing.

This club is over crowded and unclean.1. They added a TRX turf section to make the weight areas even more crowded. I go to this BSC 6 times a week, and it was already crowded before they added this (as well as before the new years rush). It was already rough in the weight lifting areas, but now they are so densely packed I fear injury during a set from someone running into me or my weights. They constantly member drive for an already overpopulated gym, expand the space (consider getting rid of a studio or bicycle room and combining them into a single space). The also eliminated a whole section of weight training machines in the 2nd floor, causing more beginners to flood to the areas where they lack experience and have any idea what to do.2. The bathroom and floor is constantly unclean.a. The bathroom is almost always out of paper towels and in complete disarray.b. There are dust and dirt everywhere, and not once have I seen the cleaning crew attempting to rectify this3. The money for upkeep of the facility is being poorly implemented. Rather then updating equipment (both weight and cardiovascular, which are old and in disrepair) there was a new unnecessary paint job, shower "upgrade", and the aformentioned TRX turf area (meanwhile the lockers were also left in awful condition).4. If you need a trainer, make sure to go to Bron. He is the only trainer in relatively good shape and has any clue what he is doing. (note they have an entire new training staff, unable to retain previous other good trainers who have all left I assume to poor management and the afformentioned space issues). One final note on the TRX turf area. I am not against it being put it, just the fact there is a lack of space for it in this particular BSC. I frequent the BSC in Westborough, where they have a lot more space and less over member crowding where it works. Also, when I questioned the Customer service manager about it, he lied and said there were 0 complaints and everyone loved it, while on the weight floor not one member was heard not complaining about it.Your options are limited in the Boston downtown area, but I have been a member for about two years now, and every "improvement" they have made has been the complete opposite, creating a dangerous, unsanitary place to work out. Avoid this place like the plague. I can't wait until I can finally leave this place.

Awful layout, old equipment, not so great variety in fitness class schedules, but friendly staff and trainers (well most of them). Sadly at this price point there are next to no other alternatives.

Great gym and great location. I love the atmosphere here, the classes are awesome and soooo much fun, just be ready to sweat! Everyone here is really friendly which makes it a great end to a normally stressful day.
