Dirty. Half the place is falling apart. There is leaks all around the facility whenever it rains or snows. Staff isn’t helpful and the managers don’t tell you any information about the membership. Cancelled my membership in the facility and over the phone (whoever I spoke told me they would put “a note for cancellation on my account” which then i received a charge on my account two months after cancellation and i was then told that they don’t do cancellations over the phone. Don’t become a member here. They just want your money.

Let me start by saying this gym is big, lots of equipment and plenty of room to workout and a mostly good environment but even so equipment needs updated. I'd give it a 3.5, but a -1 when it comes to the employee side. It's not a great place to work, especially when they don't pay you for work you did(tried to sort this out but it's like they didn't care or that I made a mistake that couldn't be fixed which was I made error on computer system...but still had proof of the sessions I delivered and they still wouldn't correct it, they don't listen to new ideas about classes, and try to get you to work for free and mislead you about pay and benefits. I've never worked for a place that didn't pay me for work I did on the clock. I even used my own phone once to make calls for them. The management in the fitness department is terrible...and they don't communicate well. They treat the trainers bad in the 2 months I was employed here...not all trainers are treated equally. They do not value trainers. It seems they more care about their bottom line and making a buck... It's honestly a disgrace to the fitness industry. I would actually workout here but save yourself from ever working there. Really don't appreciate the way other people and myself were treated in the time I was there. Very unprofessional and unethical in a very professional business. This is what happens when I was ignored and he acted like it wasn't a big deal...also they don't ask for trainer certificates or updated CPR/AED...it's not right I've worked for gyms in the past that always had my updated certs on file. So Genesis is a great place to workout just not a great place to work in my own experience.

Been a member for 4 years. Nothing new has been added and nothing has been repaired. The roof is constantly leaking water all over the gym anytime it snows or rains. You have to weave ur way around the buckets scattered in the gym collecting roof leaks. The equipment and dumbells don’t even match eachother and some weights even weigh less than they say they do because they are so old and worn. They always say they are going to update their facility but it never actually happens. Half the time the staff isn’t even paying attention to who comes into their building so having a membership is quite irrelevant. Half the stuff is broken or on the verge of breaking. Bathroom smells of mold and musk. The gym had raised there monthly membership fees from 10$ to 40$ Since genesis bought the building, however even paying 4x more than aspen was you get nothing new and no different perks. Basketball courts are run down, the rims are all uneven and different heights. And numerous items have been taken from me in the weight room and basketball courts

Do not join this health club. Branching off of Cody's review, their "policy" is a vague excuse as to why they continually charge their members each month without a real explanation and how they plan to make as much money as possible with no care for their members. I asked how to cancel my membership as I was leaving the state and was told to call the membership department. I called after I moved and was told that I needed to cancel in person... After three months of being out of state I was finally able to cancel in person and was told that I would be charged again for the following month per their "policy" with no further explanation. The staff member that told me this wouldn't answer why or apologize that I was lied to months before, only that that is their "policy".

I am new to the area and am super excited that I found this gym. I couldn't ask for better instructors. They are energetic, knowledgeable and inspiring. I love taking classes and this gym offers many choices and variety. The staff is friendly and they care about you and want to encourage you to meet your fitness goals. I have made lots of friends. I love Genesis Health Club.

I love the size of the club, very user friendly and I don't feel just like a person with a card. The front desk staff recognize people as they come in and it makes it feel like family. Honestly I also love that there are older people there when I workout in the morning - makes it very comfortable and I don't feel out of place. My trainer is knowledgable, creative and makes the workouts fun (sometimes) . It feels like home.

Read the fine print before getting membership here. After signing up for a one year membership with Aspen they auto-enrolled me in an automatic renewal which I did not know about. Ended up moving not too long after that and had a change of bank accounts. Genesis must have ended up taking over Aspen. Now today I received a bill from Genesis stating I have a balance with them for over $160 and that they have been adding to my bill for FIVE MONTHS without any sort of notification. Corporate would not answer their phone. Contacted the gym directly and they claimed that they tried calling and sending letters multiple times. They stated that they were unable to leave a voicemail due to it being full which it is most definitely not since I have been receiving plenty of voicemails from other calls and delete them after I listen to them. My address was forwarded through USPS so any letters they sent absolutely would have been forwarded to me. Manager of the gym stated that there was no corporate for me to deal with and he was the only one I could talk to. He stated that he would not shut down my membership without payment. The only thing he could do was lower the payment to $59.50 and stated that he doesn't deal with notifications and that is all handled by the billing department. Manager continued to refuse to give me any sort of contact information for the billing office he kept referring to or corporate even though he kept repeating he is not part of the billing department so he cannot answer most of my questions. Ended up paying the decreased amount just to get the membership ended so they could not keep adding to the bill and send it to collections like he threatened.Terrible customer service from both gym management and corporate office. Would never recommend anyone go here just due to their failure to be able to communicate and lack of customer service.

Love this place! Marqus made signing up for a membership so easy for us. We were able to workout that day. We enjoy the variety of the machines, and the cleanness of the club. This is a large gym, with many group classes such as yoga. I am really enjoying my experience here.

Came back here after getting tired of the high rates at lifetime. I was skeptical to come back due to issues with the general manager Marcus and one of there trainers and seeing in the reviews that issues with the GM still existed. I was pleasantly surprised when I came back and didn't have any issues. The lady that manages the front desk, Emily I think, runs a tight ship and knows her stuff. She seems to generally care about her job and helping people. I can't say the same about the General manager from my past experiences. As far as the actual equipment, the gym as a whole is kept up very well. Rarely does equipment break and when it does it doesn't take long to get fixed. In my experience you won't find a gym in the Des Moines area with a better variety of equipment and space. The only thing preventing me from giving higher than 3 stars is experience with the GM. Hopefully the new owners won't tolerate how he treats people and things improve.Update: it's 2020 why don't you have adequate Air Conditioning in this facility?
