McGinnis Academy of Martial Arts

Visited for a “trial” class and was blown away by the professionalism, structure, and discipline that this gym displays and instills. Instructors are welcoming and knowledgeable. Have been to a few gyms before to weigh options and liked them all but this was the best place that I found for someone really on a beginner level looking to actually learn the style before just being thrown into sparring. Can’t wait to get back in there! Definitely signing up ASAP. Can tell it’s worth every buck.

I joined this gym 11.2023 (adult BJJ) as a beginner and it has exceeded all of my expectations. BJJ is physically and mentally challanging - but a lot of fun.Professor McGinnis and his coaches have created a positive culture of learning and growth that permeates throughout the gym. They are highly skilled and safety-conscious.The other members of this gym are friendly and supportive. It's not just a place to train, it's a community of people who want to develop their BJJ skills and also have fun on the matts (at all levels).I highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to develop their BJJ skills (or just their general physical / mental well being).Thanks to professor McGinnis and everyone at this gym for making it a great place to train and hang out!

Great place to train. No egos. Mostly fundamentals, which I prefer. My son and I recently started training here and everyone is very nice. Safe as well.

Thank you for welcoming me into your martial arts family even though I was just visiting. This academy has a great family feel. Reminds me of the place I train back home in Atlanta. If you're in the area and are looking for a place to learn Jiu Jitsu or self defense, this academy would be a good place to call home.

I started with Master McGinnis in 2013, and I am over the top pleased with his instruction. Currently, I dabble in all three of the disciplines but my main focus is on Hapkido and Brazilian jujitsu. I preface with that because I was extremely apprehensive about starting the extreme contact sport of BJJ with mainly men, in complication with being anti-social. I prejudged it and let fear hold me back from participating in something that currently brings joy to me. This fear was conquered because Professor McGinnis never stopped believing in me and never gave up on me. Leadership, knowledge and culture will grow a community and Master McGinnis has nailed those key elements. I encourage all beings of all diverse demographics to be a part of this culture. Not only has is it helped me physically, and in self defense, but most importantly...... mentally! You will walk into the doors and instantly have another family!

Professor Shawn Mcginnis is a great teacher and leader. Everyone is like family and will go above and beyond to help and make you feel welcome.Excellent place to train, would highly recommend.

We have been attending the academy for a number of years! My son has grown in confidence and discipline as he has gained life skills to take with him! My husband uses these skills in his career. They are the best!
