Very knowledgeable staff on their philosophies. Extremely family friendly. Better than the traditional every day drop your kids off studio. They will actually learn applicable self defense techniques.

I train in Florida and was vacationing in CT. The people at this gym welcomed me with open arms and gave me a spot to train when I was out of town. The level of instruction here is fantastic and such a great family atmosphere I’ll definitely be stopping back in when I come back to CT for vacation… Thank you again!

The instructors here are the best of the best. I love coming here to train. The atmosphere is engaging, fun, and challenging. I learn something new every class. Plus One Defense is a world class martial gym. I've had the pleasure to pick up Jiu-Jitsu this summer and they made me fall in love with it. Im moving this fall and I am sad I have to leave this gym.These are the reasons I'm sad to leave, first off Darin and his team are awesome they have created an environment that makes you want to keep coming back, the facility is amazing with three different matt areas, a boxing ring, a cage and a whole weight lifting area, the amount of different martial arts styles they teach is insane as well as how many different classes they offer. If you are looking for a place to train, get in shape, pickup a new activity Plus One Defense is the place to go.

Apart from being a gym, Plus one defense systems has been a second home, The community and environment this place holds is something unforgettable. I started my journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu about 10 months ago. During those 10 months, I’ve not only felt confident in my ability to defend myself, But I fell more in love with who I am, This sport made me super confident and happy with myself, and I owe it all to Darin and the other instructors. If you are hesitant to join a gym, I’d say give Plus one a chance. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with what this gym has to offer. I know I did.

Darin runs an amazing gym and he only employs trainers of the highest caliber. I've trained beginner-level Muay Thai here with three different instructors due to my shifting work schedule. Each instructor was friendly, accommodating, highly talented, and made you feel like a part of the family.I highly recommend subscribing to Plus One's newsletter if you are interested in getting your CT firearms permits. Darin's NRA course on firearms safety is comprehensive, great value, and fun. Seats at these classes are limited, but their newsletter will give ample warning before they start reserving spots.

Has a great learning atmosphere with driven and kind people. There’s so many different martial arts you can do there too. I just started a month ago and have learned so much due to the instructors and people who are a higher level than me that want to help.

Literally a life-changing gym. Great coaches who are super friendly and supportive, A wide variety of styles and plenty of classes at a fair price. No matter if you are a competitor, a hobbyist, or just someone looking to get some good exercise, they'll support your goals.

So many things to love about Plus One! Convenience - I can take class while my son takes class. High standards - leadership and instructors take the responsibility of training people very seriously. You really need to earn your belts and stripes by learning the form you are studying. We especially love that the children they are taught they have to exhibit personal excellence at home as well as at school in order to advance in their martial art. Most importantly, though, the leadership and instructors develop and promote community. Everyone is kind and respectful. When our son sprained his ankle, he attended class to sit on the bench and watch to prepare for his test, and Sensei Travis moved the whole class next to the bench so our son could be included and train from there.
