Genesis Health Clubs - Independence

Due to my work overload unfortunately I need to end my membership. When I called I was told to come in and cancel the membership because you can't call/ email/ or in general go online to close your account. I came in and had to wait for someone because the front desk couldn't do it. Finally someone was up there to help.When I spoke to him he informed I couldn't stop my membership unless I paid the $200 right then and there. Meanwhile you could just cancel it and let me make payments like I already do. Instead he tells me "you guys never pay it!" I'm not sure who you guys are???? But I'm not you guys, I'm a customer who was trying to do this the right way. ...... 2weeks later I'm getting phone calls to help resolve my problem, the moment I say I want to close and make payments on the $200 closing fee! Again... I'm told they will not close it unless I pay $200 right then and there. I tried to leave a BBB review but they are not accredited. There's no way I can start and end a lease on everything but a gym membership, this is definitely poor business practices. And then I was told my balance would continue to accumulate smh I would never recommend this place

The gym itself is beautiful, painstaking detail was put in to make sure youre surrounded by beauty while getting fit! Your eyes always have something to land on if people watching isn't your thing. Its very crowded though, even at 3pm on a Monday. Thankfully there seems to be enough machines and room to go around. The pool is lovely, and the hot tub lives up to its name. The only unfortunate thing is that the ladies locker room was unkept. A lot of people in and out and not a single staff member checked/cleaned the womens locker room while I was there. Otherwise though, lovely place!

My experience with Genesis has been the single worst experience I have ever had with a corporate company. These crooks ended up taking over $1,200 from me after I tried on two different occasions to cancel my membership... after i formally canceled my membership on the second time, they continued to bill me for 14 months citing that my signature on my cancelation contract was "illegible". However, they never even attempted to contact me about said "illegible" signature. I was told that I would be contacted by a regional manager.. and have yet to hear anything.I am not the type of person to write reviews on companies, but this experience was so outrageously crooked I CANNOT EXPRESS it enough, DO NOT GET A MEMBERSHIP HERE.

Love this gym! I had an awesome trainer named Q who is super friendly, very informative and super cute. Love the manager as well, awesome guy who made me feel right at home.

Super convenient and equipment is kept clean. Not a large gym but when things need fixed or maintenance usually next visit its done.

Large gym with a great variety of equipment to choose from. I’ve been training with Personal Trainer Terell Smith for a month or so now. My Boi’s helped me increase my mobility, heal from an injury, and I’ve added 15 lbs to my deadlift and 20 lbs to my bench max! (with it also feeling better than previous)! 10/10 recommend Terell💪🏼 …

The teachers of the 9:30 classes are amazing!!!!! Love the friendliness of the people that work out! The only down side is we have old hand weights that are not in good shape and never enough!

Such a great club! My trainer, Zach Burch, is phenomenal-he works me hard but makes it fun! So grateful for him and Genesis Independence!

Hot tub was nice and toasty as were the saunas. Locker rooms were clean as well. On a sad note, my friend and I hadn't been in for several months and were upset to find out that long time overnight employee, Ed, was no longer with us and had passed about 4 months ago. He was an awesome guy and we will miss seeing him when we come in. RIP Ed

I had a 5 star experience today bring my mom here for the first time. Tyler is the reason I had such a great experience. He clearly cared a lot about making us feel comfortable and went above and beyond for us. Thank you so much Tyler ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
