I had been a welcomed member of the Fair Lawn, NJ Retro Fitness for 4 1/2 years. I enjoyed the intensive workout on the cardio machines and weight room. I also liked the classes, the smoothies of the week specials and watching the movies of the day. It was also near my home and affordable. Retro Fitness had been one of my favorite gyms. The negatives. Some of the male staff shouted when they spoke to me. I got frustrated with the cardio movie room because inconsiderate members talked on their phones or with other members. They got rude if I complained and called the manager. I could no longer watch movies in the movie room when it got moved to the smaller studio. The sound and view was bad. Had to watch movie on cardio machine with the HD TV. The manager Andrew started a fight when I complained about the movie language being changed into Spanish. He said I would have to watch the movie in English subtitles. He implied that I was a racist and accused me of yelling at him when I got upset. He also said it was my fault and that no one else was complaining when I reported a problem with the treadmill, HD TV, and digital screen. I also overheard him backbiting me. The dishonest and cruel business practices of the managers Andrew and Samantha ruined my membership. When things went wrong, they stopped being nice to me. They violated the cancellation policies by suddenly cancelling my membership in June, 2021 without my consent after I reported another harassing incident that happened with the night cleaning guy and for complaining to customer service when I did not get any justice from them. They fabricated things about me in order to do it. Andrew and Samantha sent nasty emails in which they lied, verbally attacked me, and discredited the complaint. They also lied to a consumer affairs investigator that they terminated my membership because I did not follow rules, I committed violations and that my behavior was inappropriate. I was a well behaved member and an innocent victim who just went to the gym to work out. Being the gym was privately owned, I failed to get anyone to save my membership. Complaining to customer service only gave them more ammunition to use against me so they can have an excuse to terminate my membership. I assumed things would cool off and that I would have been able to return to the gym. I made a shocking discovery that my membership was involuntarily cancelled. Good thing I found out on my own and did not return to the gym. No customer appreciation. There were repeated harassing incidences with the night cleaning guy that disturbed me. On June 11, 2021, when I went to the front desk to get my smoothie, the cleaning guy started to watch me. He then made an immediate approach, made a comment in Spanish and started laughing. It got more suspicious when a member said to him that he did not understand Spanish but he knows what that means. There were incidences in which cleaning guy was nasty and lost his temper at me. He angrily pulled out the extension cord and almost tripped me. He yelled at me at the front desk to get out of his way. He slammed the broom and dust pan down in the ladies room after I walked in. Management did not even care enough to apologize. Cleaning guy constantly walked into the ladies bathroom which was next to showers and changing area. He kept firing the female assistant who he occasionally hired. Read on the websites that members who signed up for training packages were subjected to illegal and unauthorized charges and got charged 1500 dollars. Also there are 100's of reviews on the website about collections coming after members who had cancelled their memberships. Their accounts and credit got messed up. People who I had spoken to said that they cancelled the way they were suppose to and collections came after them. Also members complained on Google, Yelp, and Better Business Bureau about Samantha Lopez' poor customer service and that she was abusive, nasty and rude. The owner fired Jackie on the Undercover Boss instead of Samantha. Samantha was worse than Jackie. What a misery.

Friendly staff, clean, lots of new machines, friendly people all around. Been going here since the day it opened. After attempting to switch for no other reason than to switch it up I realized time and time again that this is the best gym in bergen county.

Been going here for quite some time now and after having not only been a member of several gyms but also working at them and in the fitness world, Retro in Fair Lawn continues to bring it pound for pound above the rest. Management between Sam and Andrew is seamless and I’ve never seen such fast and efficient turnover with updating/fixing/maintenance of equipment. Staff is always engaging and friendly. Everyone that works there seems to truly enjoy being there, and what they do. That’s a product of having a great team top to bottom. Super clean (always has been, pre-covid it was always this way), updated, and constantly evolving by adding new features from selling apparel to prepared meals to go; on top of their endless shakes/drinks/healthy supplements options. I’m too spoiled so if I ever had to go elsewhere I would be disappointed simply by default in comparison to this. 1000/1000 times it’s Retro in Fair Lawn for me.

I have been a member of gyms for over 30 years. Retro Fitness in Fairlawn is no doubt, the best gym I have gone to. I have been a member for 5 years and cannot say enough about the owner , Bob, who is there regularly. Sam and Andrew are his staff running the show and in this sensitive time with COVID-19 precautions the gym is impeccably cleaned and maintained. 5 stars is well deserved for this establishment.

I love it, always clean and friendly staff. very convenient too. They always open on time or earlier. And they go the extra mile with special events and celebrations

The classes are really great, especially for the price. The instructors are fantastic…Sam, Kim and Marieliz are some of my faves! Highly recommend.
