Crunch Fitness - Ballantyne offers a comprehensive range of equipment and classes, making it a popular choice for fitness enthusiasts. It features numerous machines, squat racks, and barbell racks. The gym also has a selection of popular HIIT classes, with instructors like Sara K. and Debora C. highly praised for their motivating sessions. The membership is priced competitively, at $9.99 a month, which appeals to many users.

However, the gym struggles with overcrowding, making it difficult to access equipment during peak hours. Users report issues with customer service and misleading contract terms, particularly around membership cancellations and personal training sessions. Cleanliness and equipment maintenance also seem to be recurring concerns.

Pros:

  • Many equipment options including barbell and squat racks
  • High-quality HIIT and fitness classes
  • Friendly and motivating instructors (e.g., Sara K. and Debora C.)
  • Competitive membership cost ($9.99 per month)
  • Welcoming staff and community atmosphere
  • Clean and modern equipment
  • Additional amenities like sauna and hydro massage chairs
  • Trainers available for personal sessions
  • Consistently clean facility

Cons:

  • Overcrowded during peak hours
  • Issues with membership and contract cancellations
  • Some equipment maintenance and cleanliness concerns

Had recently moved from another city, and tried to transfer to this gym however each time I faced difficulty and a runaround from the employees. When I spoke with the manager he was rude and disrespect when he answered the phone and didn't even identify himself. He was no help with making my transition easy. By far the worst customer experience I had in a gym.

If you are looking for an excellent gym to get in shape, look no further! Can’t say enough about the Fitness Instructor, Kristy B. at the Ballantyne location! She is informative, challenging, motivating and always willing to help if needed. I have been to many gyms but she has put me in the best shape I have ever been in. Thanks Kristy for all you do!

I recently had a terrible experience with Crunch Fitness. I was transferred to this gym from Fitness Connection without my consent and they started charging me an absurd amount of money without informing me. I was shocked to find out that they had built up a credit of over 200 dollars in my account without my knowledge. The staff at Crunch Fitness did not help me understand the situation and instead told me they were "catching up" on payments, as if it was my fault. This is a very unethical method of handling business and it is unacceptable.I have tried to cancel my membership but was informed that I would have to pay an additional cancellation fee. This is just adding insult to injury. I am extremely disappointed with this franchise and I would advise anyone to stay away from Crunch Fitness. I am now speaking to my attorney about this matter and I hope to get this resolved soon.Overall, I am extremely unhappy with my experience at Crunch Fitness and I would not recommend this gym to anyone. The business practices are fraudulent and the staff are unhelpful and unprofessional. Shame on this franchise for their selfish behavior.

This gym is a burden to be a member of. I’ve been a crunch member for 4 years now, and have gone to 5 different locations over that time between moving and traveling. This one is the worst. I’m not sure if they staff is lazy or what, but for a gym that isn’t 24 hours, it makes no sense to me why they close the facilities during operating hours to clean. Clean before or after hours. Or open 24 hours. The group classes are good for the people who want low effort exercise, but if you workout on your own be prepared to not be able to listen to your own music or thoughts. The instructors wear microphones which are super unnecessary, and pump their little pop music and loud voices through huge speakers that can be heard across the entire gym. Also, this location closes earlier on weekends than any of the other locations I have been to. Cable machines are constantly broken, usually multiple at a time. They’ll fix one at a time instead of all of them at once, as well. On top of that, the members for whatever reason don’t know how to put equipment up. If you’re doing something on the cables, you’re gonna need to be Sherlock Holmes to find the attachment you need. Everyone just throws them on the ground instead of walking them back to the rack where they belong. Too much cardio I guess. And the staff is too busy filming their little tik toks to address any of these issues. Don’t join. It’s overpriced and poorly managed

I really like the equipment but they allow far too many members. Even if you show up at 5:00am you have to quickly run over to the squat rack or bench press because within five minutes they are taken. If you’re trying to squat, dead lift or bench press after work between 4:00pm-9:00pm it’s so crowded you can barely move, forget ever being able to squat, deadlift or bench press.

I gave it two stars because it does have everything. BUT… that doesn’t change the fact that this gym is way over crowded.. and gets soo stuffy in there. Every hour is peak time, and the high school kids that sit on machines and have social hour is obnoxious. The gym is fine if you have 2 hours free. 1 hour waiting for what you need and another hour actually getting to use it.

Things could be better.I will start with the positives. The equipment is good, the staff is friendly, and the trainer that I had was very knowledgeable. The downside… The gym is overcrowded. Due to the number of people and the new layout; it’s hard to get to the locker rooms. The excessive number of people also make it impossible to use the open space in the HIIT area. A person cannot use the weighted sleds or tires frequently. I even see some people doing their workouts (with weights) in a hallway because there are too many people. Of course, there are occasional lines for certain machines.I would suggest some sort of limits to the allowable number of people on the floor or membership numbers. Perhaps reduce the amount of marketing/advertising.

Good equipment very new. But the gym is packed with high school and college kids all day. Too crowded. Often I come for chest and have to switch to legs because equipment is full. Sometimes on legs I can’t do part of my legs because not enough hamstrings or leg extension machines. The place is just really crowded whether it’s at noon, 2pm or 4pm. It doesn’t matter

Place ran by scam artists. They charged me a total of $80 at the end of the year, because supposedly my membership from another gym carried over. I was never informed about this or given a heads up about a charge. I called them to cancel my membership and they told me I had to either come into the gym or SEND A HAND WRITTEN LETTER to cancel my membership. I do not live in Charlotte anymore so I asked nicely if they could do it over the phone or any other way and the guy on the phone was very rude and told me to send a hand written letter like it was the 1800s.And from what I've heard the bathrooms reek and are always a mess. If you want a real gym this is not the place to go, they're only in the business of swindling people who used to workout at fitness connection (a respectable gym).

SHADY GYM - charged $170 (WONT GIVE ME MY $$ BACK!) and I’ve never walked into this gym before. Originally a fitness connection member, my account was automatically transferred without my authorization. Now I get charged $170 for a gym I’ve NEVER STEPPED FOOT IN??? How do they have my account routing and checking number without my permission?? How do they do this without any form of contact or letting someone know?? CANCELLING ASAP! Staff is rude when discussing situation and NO corporate number on the website to speak to someone higher up.Would give 0 stars if possible.
