This is the best Y in the area. Play center for kids of various ages is amazing. Therapy indoor pool nice and warm. Water slides in both indoor and outdoor pool. We drive a little further just to go to this Y.

I've been to the outdoor pool 4 times this summer. On each occasion, the pool was closed shortly after I got there because someone pooped in the pool. I realize these things happen. On other days, I've made plans to use the pool, only to be texted by friends saying the pool is closed due to the same problem.I never had this problem when using the Mt Trashmore location or even when a member at the Jewish Community Center in VA Beach. This facility has a very similar layout as the GB/H YMCA, where the shallower and deeper areas are connected. I wish I could give a suggestion as to how to remindy this problem. My solution is to cancel my membership and renew at the Jewish CC. A little travel is worth knowing that parents are more in tuned to their child's BM schedule. (How a parent couldn't know their child crapped in the pool is beyond me.) Plus, it is larger with more to offer. Thought it would be great to become a member of this YMCA, but there are way too many people for such a small facility. There are also too many unattended children in the outdoor pool.

YMCA Great Bridge/Hickory Summer Camp is a FOR PROFIT SCAM ran at your children's expense. They are NOT equipped to handle the capacity of children it enrolls. 1. It does not have the necessary availability of space/rooms to properly, AT ALL, PERIOD. 2. Because of this, the children spend almost all their time outside on a back lot field that only has one sheltered/covered area with some tables. This includes morning, afternoons; really anytime the counselors can have them out there they will be outside. 3. This is also where all of there belongings are kept ALL DAY. Yes, this includes their lunch boxes (which will have their morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack). These lunch boxes are overfilled into "coolers" BUT these "coolers" have no ice/ice packs and the lids are left off. They are basically just boxes where your kid will drop off their lunch box. Now, I don't care how many ice packs you pack into your kids lunchbox, when it sits in the summer heat cooking ALL day like theirs does, no ice pack can save it from getting gross. 4. Now, as far as the heat the goes, only if the heat index reaches above an absurd temp do they bring the kids inside. At that point, all the kids are forced into the gymnasium which is the only available are to put the kids. They have no separated rooms with tables and chairs and fun activities set up for your kids to enjoy, do not be fooled. 5. Outside, they have ONE porta potty for ALL kids to use, MALE AND FEMALE. The porta potty is NOT CLEANED on any regular schedule. It can go well OVER A WEEK without being cleaned or without the drum of wash water being refilled, meaning the children have NO WASH STATION to wash their hands after using the porta potty. The potty portion of the porta potty itself is jammed packed and stuffed so full of excrement, feces, urine, fluids, toilet paper, that it is only mere inched from the top of the toiled seat. When I last checked it personally myself the other day it smelled from yards away with the door closed as it had not been changed in OVER A WEEK. 6. When they say that your child will be swimming and having fun, don't be fooled. They are not going to be swimming in the large pool where all the fun happens with the slide and splash zone. All they do is remove the very last lane divider and all campers must only swim in those very last two lane spaces. 7. MORE THAN HALF OF ALL FIELD TRIPS ARE CANCELLED. This is also another scam the YMCA gets over on you to not only reach into your purse strings but a scam to draw you in thinking that your child will have a fun and active summer while you are obligated to work or were hoping just to give them a fun week at camp to break up the summer. The YMCA has you not only pay for camp registration and pay the weekly camp fee but they also sneak in that you are paying higher weekly camp fees for the ones that supposedly have field trips of do extra special things. NOPE, usually all cancelled. 8. Other than the gym they have one small "prison style" room (few small windows on the back wall, all concrete walls) that they utilize as a so called "cool down" room where is packed full of children who have to sit on the ground for what I was told is only a half hour or so after they come in from outside. When I entered this room you couldn't even see the floor as every inch was covered with kids. I was told this was the only room they had which was air conditioned to use to "cool down" after being outside.Objectively, My kids are moderately ok with going because they do see some friends when they're there and once in a while do get to go on a field trip once in a blue moon, but I get a lot of complaints daily from them. I will actively be seeking alternate care and at the very least never use them again for summer camp, ever and will be contacting the director. Other than that the Y has other great classes and programs and the pool is nice, just NOT their camps for kids!!!!!!

Compared to most military gyms, I would rather spend my time in this facility. The staff is nice, usually always have the coffee I want ready. Sauna is small, but I can deal with that, their equipment is taken care off nicely.

Really nice facility and friendly staff but the smell of chlorine from the indoor pool hits you like a wall. It's odor completely permeated the entire facility when I was there today and I had to cut my workout in the weight room short today because I developed a migraine and became severely nauseous. I've never had that happen to me at other YMCA locations with an indoor pool before. Not sure what they are doing at this facility but I will not be going back.

Great pools, gym and kids activities. They have active tracks fitness tracker, a rock wall in the interactive zone, that adults can also climb. Parents night out where they watch your kids. An indoor pool that is heated. An outdoor pool that is really nice. All around this is my favorite YMCA in the Hampton Roads area.
