John Reed Fitness in Los Angeles offers a unique gym experience with its vibrant decor, modern equipment, and upbeat atmosphere. The facility feels like a blend of a nightclub and an art gallery, enhanced by live DJ sessions during workouts. The gym excels in cleanliness, equipment variety, and an inclusive environment. While the staff generally receives positive remarks, there are occasional complaints of unfriendliness. Update: since posting my original view, it’s worth noting the gym is quickly filling with more patrons who seem most interested in their own vanity by setting up cameras and tripods all over the gym floor during peak hours. They’re in the locker room filming, free weight area, hallways, you name it - clearly for social media purposes. It’s cool the gym allows photography but good business etiquette would be in discouraging photo/videography during peak hours - currently doesn’t seem to be any policy in place around this subject. Suggestion, set an early morning/late evening window for filming. If this continues to create a strain, start charging an additional fee for using the facilities as personal photography studios. At any rate consider establishing some rules before this gets completely out of hand. 5 stars have been reduced to 3.Best gym I’ve been to in LA County that doesn’t break the bank but just costly enough to keep out weekend warriors who spend more of their time sitting on equipment than using it. Clients are serious about lifting here, clean, great lighting, good vibes.

Best gym I’ve ever been to.Front desk makes it feel like it’s only inclusive to DTLA members although they promote a free week pass.If I’d known it was a bother for out of town people to come here I would have asked before coming. I’m a California resident so I figured most people are ok with people from the State going anywhere. Regardless the gym itself is one of a kind & hope they eventually become a bigger franchise so others in other counties may enjoy this type of gym. I drove almost two hours to come to this gym and it’s been worth the drive both times I came.Best way to describe this is: Excellence, very creative atmosphere and lots of equipment for everyone to use. I read a complaint from a Perez below about members hogging equipment, it’s not that hard to ask another guest if they are almost done using the equipment or if you can borrow the equipment while they use other equipment. Some people should really use their brain and think.Anyway, can’t complain, this place is extremely clean and I will consider getting the year membership as I am in DTLA for business quite often.

I'm gonna officially sign up because I like the equipment and cleanliness, but I'm already put off by the front staff. I told the desk clerk that it was my first day, and she looked at me as if I had no business being there, said nothing about offering me a tour (which I later learned is an option), and really made me feel unwelcome. I was left to tour the gym on my own, and it was an awkward/isolating experience. I read elsewhere that the staff is friendlier to other guests, and I'm not one to mince words, so I'll just be upfront and say... could it relate to me being a black woman? Mayhaps. Mayhaps not. Who knows? Either way, I like the facility and am looking forward to getting my workouts done there, but as many others have said, John Reed really needs to crack down on their staff's bedside manner, because this ain't it, chief.

John Reed Fitness is located two blocks from my apartment with a great reputation and appeal. I have been a member for a little over month now and find that, for the most part, the pros outweigh the cons.Pros: great equipment, decent classes, and a great serious workout vibe. It can get very busy, but it is a commercial gym so it makes complete sense. I haven’t encountered anyone who is rude or hogging machines in particular so that has been great. The janitorial staff is great and keeps the gym noticeably clean and tidy. The organization is great and I’m satisfied with the selection of equipment.Cons: there is no where safe to secure a scooter or bicycle in the garage or in the gym. There is a huge amount of empty space inside that is underutilized that could have a space for 5-6 bicycles (let’s be honest no one is riding the $50 huffy to JRF. I’m riding a Turbo Creo it would look wonderful in the opening area) to make matters worse, I was berated by the “parking lot manager” for locking my bicycle in a spot I informed and asked JRF was cool. The parking lot manager said JRF has no right to tell their customers what can be done in their garage. I was berated for almost 15 minutes until I asked someone at the front desk to help me escape this confrontation. Taylor at the front desk helped me and was very reasonable about the situation. I very much appreciate the efforts of the John Reed Fitness team!I was berated and threatened to have my lock broken by this “parking manager” and my bicycle “taken” by security for following the directions given to me by JRF. It’s a few hundred dollars for a gym this size to purchase a bike rack which would be extremely appreciated by the numerous customers who ride their bike or scooter to the facility. The first time I went in I waited almost 30 minutes just to take a tour of the facility to know whether or not it was worth it. Fun fact to anyone reading this review: don’t pay for the day pass as it’s $40. Your membership renews on the 25th for the monthly pass at $130 monthly but it’s prorated so if you start your membership on the 15th it’ll run you maybe $25 for the “month. You’ll get 10 days for $25 which is much much better.I have been off put by the attitude of some of the people who work at JRF. I asked one of the women who work at the front counter what vegan protein was available to which she rolled her eyes and said “I don’t know pea protein?” It genuinely didn’t make me feel welcome or appreciated as a customer. I had to ask another employee who actually went to the back and got a photo on her cell phone which I was extremely appreciative of.Unfortunately, I have come into this place and found the front desk to be mindlessly swiping on their cell phones and not attentive to customers. It’s easy! “Hello welcome!”For this reason I’m leaving John Reed Fitness with 3 stars and I hope that positive changes can take place. I understand JRF has no control over the garage as a tenant, but I would hope they would recognize the negative predicament customers are placed in with the property owner. Please speak to your team members about proper courtesy and professional interactions with customers.Thank you!Update: Hello! In Response to the rack being bolted to the wall. It's not actually bolted to anything as I type this the rack is just resting on the arms. I was instructed by the Instagram Media Manager to make contact with the parking garage tenant to request bicycle accommodations.

Great gym, really good amenities. I just wished management or a team member was out eyeing people using multiple machines and weights at once. It’s pretty busy around 5:30am, I saw a guy put a towel on a bench, grabbed two sets of weights and was using one of the machines. People were walking up to the benches wanted to work out and couldn’t because the idiot left his phone and towel with the weights on the floor as he looked on at people wanting to use the the bench. I’d honestly put up a sign stating one machine at a time. Be considerate. Other than that gym is honestly top of the line, pricey, but I don’t care. It’s well worth it. Clean, bathrooms are clean, showers I haven’t showered there, but I’d assume they be as clean as the gym.

Why employees in the morning never working on the front desk or the juice bar. Thy always on a 15min break or no one can make a smoothie. The attitude of an employee with tattoos on the face is so unprofessional.

Probably the nicest gym in LA. Better than equinox when it comes to being a luxury gym. My only complaint is the app is a little rough around the edges. Tried signing up for a personal training session, the app crashed and I didn’t get any confirmation message or email but it successfully booked it. Was looking around in the app for a confirmation and accidentally clicked “unregister” which dropped my training session without any confirmation and forfeited the credit since it was within 24 hours. I still feel it deserves 5 stars though, the building and equipment are amazing

I love this gym. The interiors are amazing and there is a lot of space. The equipment is great too. However I wish they would fix the sauna. Firstly it is never hot enough and is always around 160 when on so you can never really get a sweat. Saunas should be at least 200?Furthermore, because of this, people go in the sauna after their workout fully clothed with their shoes and smelly workout gear on which means it always smells really bad in there.I wish they would fix the sauna and also stop people from doing this.

The most incredible experience I’ve ever had at a gym. The staff is absolutely amazing and so welcoming! From the second I walked in, I felt at home. They were so helpful of showing me around the facility, they were cheerful and pleasant, and they really took their time to explain all of the outstanding features of the gym. I am so thankful to be a member and I would recommend this gym to anyone who is thinking of joining. You will not be disappointed!!!! 10 stars and so many more if I could add! Best experience I’ve ever had.

This is my review for John Reed.Pros: The gym has very nice equipment which is great as most gyms in California has beat up equipment. The air smells purified so you don’t have those musty body odors. There is a lot of inspiration in the gym as people are literally there to work out and not have three hour long conversations. The bathroom is very clean and you see staff go around cleaning up consistently.Cons: everything about the gym is great besides the staff. They have the most nasty and snooty attitudes I have ever seen. They don’t greet you, and when you ask a question they look at you like your crazy. You also notice that they are nice to certain people…I will let you think on that, and they don’t have someone to make shakes for you after your workout. It seems like only one person is certified to make shakes and for $130 a month someone should be up at the counter consistently. The attitudes and service at the front desk needs to improve.Overall: I give this gym 3 1/2 stars but those attitudes are major deductions. It’s not hard to be nice to say hello!
