Planet Fitness in Newport News, VA, offers a compelling mix of affordability and accessibility, boasting a 24/7 operation schedule that caters to virtually any lifestyle. The gym features a wide variety of user-friendly equipment suitable for beginners and seasoned fitness enthusiasts alike. The environment receives high praise for its overall friendliness and cleanliness, making it a comfortable place to work out. Additionally, the staff is generally seen as attentive and courteous, which enhances the overall experience.
However, the gym does face some criticism, particularly regarding the maintenance of its equipment and the accuracy of its crowd meter feature. Some users find that the location is often overcrowded, especially during peak hours, which leads to longer wait times for popular machines. There are newer PF locations on the Southside but this is probably the best on the Peninsula. Lots of machines. Kinda weird smell at times but that's b/c there's a lot of people.

They staff is friendly, the pace is spread out so you don't feel like you are on top of ppl and its clean. The only downside is, the 30 minute workout area ppl don't follow the rules

The cost of the membership can't be beat. They even have fitness programs with a trainer. They also have a trainer to help you with a workout plan using free weights or machines and the staff are all nice and willing to help you with whatever comes up

Twice now I've gone to work out on a Sunday and they are "closed for maintenance ". No communication, just a sign on the door. I could have come to work out any time today, but chose to come in the evening to avoid crowds. Extremely disappointed that I've now had to miss 2 week outs

The Newport News gym is nice. I just wish it had some of the equipment they have at the Glen Burnie Maryland Gym. There surely is no comparison. For instance, they have different types of ab machines that i prefer and i feel are more updated and effective at the Glen burnie gym. They also have 3 modern hydrobeds that sit upright and it's in a more relaxing private area by itself, as well as, the massage chairs being in its own private area. It makes getting the vip membership so worth it --unlike /verses - the N.News VA location which only has one much older hydro bed model that lies flat and its located in a open space, no privacy, and a couple of times I noticed a bad odor coming from it. I also experienced the hydro bed and massage chairs to not be functioning properly. Other than the above mentioned, its a nice gym but they could do much better on making the V.i.P membership more appealing at that location :/Update: I gave it extra stars from 3 to 5 Since my last review the gym has been updated with the nicer hydo beds and massage chairs in a more private area. I have no complaints:) Although they never added the nicer ab machines, i still think the gym is pretty nice!!.

If you move out of town cancel or stop your payments before you leave. I been calling for months to speak to a manager to stop my payment and every time i call they tell me the manager is on break or just left. I have been getting charged on my account for 3 months now and I move all the way to California so I cant go inside.

just signed up for a new membership after having one a few years ago. was happy to see many more cardio machines, probably resulting from COVID. very clean gym and locker rooms. Only complaint was the almost overwhelming smell of Pot in the locker room...

Its a great place to work out. Don't expect a lot of contact from the people working there. You go, you workout, you clean your machine, you leave. I love this aspect but some people might need more

Theyre too cheap to turn on the AC. If it reaches 75-80 degrees, that’s ok with them. A lot of machines are breaking down. And it’s a “24 hour” gym that for a while always closed for 2 hours for cleaning - but now it sporadically closes for cleaning- even though the cleaning could be done in the hours that the one person just sits in the back doing nothing.
