I've been a member of The Alaska Club since 2015. Every day I am greeted by name and a genuine inquiry about how my day is going so far. From the clean team to the executive team, the staff at The Alaska Club is rooting for your success in wellness. The members at The Alaska Club East treat each other like family and you can see it the group fitness classes, you can hear it in the locker room, and you can feel it in the weight room. Members openly cheer each other on, share equipment, and lend a helping hand. This positive daily energy is what lead me to join the team and it has been a great career move. My supervisor is knowledgeable, thoughtful, and challenges me everyday. I feel lucky to be surrounded by a team that is truly dedicated to changing lives through fitness.

I loved going to the Alaska Club East. Front Desk Staff are always friendly! This was my first time getting a gym membership with this gym and every time I had questions membership accounting always had the answers I was looking for. But I definitely do recommend reading the fine print before signing anything.

Recently rejoined the Alaska Club after trying out a few other clubs in town and I am happy to be back. All of the employees I have interacted with are helpful and friendly. The memberships are on the more expensive side but I am willing to pay for the additional perks that are offered at the club. The only thing I am disappointed about is they closed the express Muldoon club which was one of the main reason I joined back up. Now the only option I have for a late night workout is way across town.

Can't say if it's good or bad, somewhere between those lines meet... probably, with the prices they offer for membership initiation and the lack of a true good 'customer service'. Luckily the person who was in charge of me the first time was kind enough to have accommodate me with enthusiasm, til I've had a tiny concern about payment with the high price and surprise payments I was hearing from other people. I asked a different person at the time my original initiator was off, and boy did I not have a good time, it wasn't a disagreement type of discussion but the way the membership coordinator talks passive aggressively. I didn't even bothered looking at his/her name tag because I was so dissatisfied with how he/she handled the conversation and I just left with an 'okay' reply. But all in all, the gyms' one of my favorite because of conveniency.

I have been told by many people that the Alaska Club has a very bad reputation and now they have earned that bad reputation with me. I joined the Alaska club at the end of last years summer. First they had a lot of fine print which really seemed like I was buying a used car from a sleezy used care salesman. its a one year contact at $98 a month and if you cancel you are charged $500 cancel fee. You can cancel in the fine print if you cancel after 60 or 90 days but you have to have gone for 30 days. All sort of bad fine print. If they were a good company and treated their members good they would not need the fine print.Well a month ago I added my girlfriend to my account at the east location and was asked if I was in a sexual relationship with her. I asked her to repeat that and the member service person repeated it again and asked if I am in a sexual relationship with my girlfriend which is none of her or Alaska Clubs business. Then I was forced to sign a contact saying I was in a relationship with my girlfriend which I did not want to do. If I want a contact I would be married and now Alaska Club has forced me into a contract I did not want to be in just to add my girlfriend to my account. So now I pay $150 a month for the Alaska ClubI then move and have to go to the south club which is not far from my new house. Yet it like East both have turned into a day car center and your surrounded by kids. Except the East has a section for adults only and a adults only locker room. The south club has the same thing, except if you want to go to the adult side you have to pay $50 more a month which is just wrong. You already pay for every little extra that they have but now I have to pay to be single and not have kids and not to be around kids. They try to even lie and say its a whole separate club, but in fact its in the same building as the south club and you don't have to go outside to get to it. Its just all double talk and fine print.I write them a letter to complain and I get a condensending email from a manager called Ricky White. Who basically thinks he is going to tell me that I am full of it and nothing like that has happened. He said all conversations are recorded and to tell him when this happened. I told him when and where and what time and then he gets back to me and says oh we don't have that conversation recorded. How convenient that he does not have it. Just shows how much they disrespect and treat their current customer like garbage and take advantage of them. He acted like they were the greatest company yet when I call BS on them and say lets get to the bottom obviously they don't want to go their. I am now thinking about a lawsuit against them because I think my rights were violated. Especially since Mr. Ricky White, wanted to be treat me even more terrible.Bottom line, run from the Alaska Club, they treat customer very bad and you will regret it like I did and still do. I cant wait for my membership to be done so I can no longer have to deal with this company.

Customer service these days has gone to the dogs. 2 stars because the club has a great deal of features. Front desk is horrible. Except the 1 lady that was there early mornings...older lady, because the young ones haven't a clue about customer service. Management either. Front desk little girls, nor management greets you upon entering, picking and choosing unless I guess they know you. I'm frustrated because the club is very convenient but I Hate dealing with accounting and the "management" I've asked to be put on a 3 month hold back in Nov., which they offer. But still got charged full FAMILY membership after requesting to move to individual membership. Finally spoke to a "manager" and she assured me that it would be changed. but didn't hesitate to (in a reprimanding tone) tell me they wont correct there error again. as if I am at fault. The cleaning company does a poor job in the women's shower and locker rooms. When leaving I directly reported the same gross body fluids I saw two weeks in a row still there and got no response. It's shameful. I grin and bare it. If only someone would open a quality gym and care about the many poor reviews. Staff needs an overhaul, starting at the top. They are the standard and example.Ok had to come back and give the accounting department another star. I was shocked. really. I think her name was Lindsey. Very friendly and straight forward. She resolved my issue with being charged too much right away. If I wasn't on the phone I would have hugged her. Clone her Akclub. I was expecting the usual AKclub run around.

I've been a member for over a year and finally ending membershipIf you are tight on money or a college student like myself do not go to this gym. This place is meant for people who are financially stable. I first signed up at this club not knowing I signed up for a year contract, it's been a burden. For UAA students there are no student discounts, it's $96 a month. Students would be better signing up with Planet Fitness or going to UAA facilities. There are also big late fees if you do not pay on time. Also when you can finally cancel do it 30 days in advanced before your last payment, their cancellation paper makes it if you don't give it to them in person 30 days in advanced you are contracted to pay for another month, even given a day late.I only gave 2 stars for my trainer I had, he was amazing at showing me how to lift properly and effectively. I would give 1 start for facility and customer service. Overall I payed over $600 in late fees and extra month from the 30 days advanced cancellation on top of my monthly bill. I would only suggest if you are financially stable or if you want a trainer to show you the ropes. I would not recommend this place to a friend, because it has been a financial burden for me and It's made me slightly depressed.

They recently renovated, So a lot of those old reviews of things being run down are out of date. It looks very nice inside now. I hate spending so much on a membership but I love the wide variety of classes and time. Not to mention they have the best child care of any gym in town. The play equipment in all of the Alaska Clubs are awesome. Ball pits, slides, tumble mats, toys, crafts. The highlight of my child's day to be able to go in there and play and be warm and have lots of kids around. It makes going to the gym a lot easier for me.

AK Club's membership & accounting is very dishonest. It is very difficult to cancel your membership. Also, they will increase your monthly dues despite being under contract. When you cancel, be sure to have everything in writing. I should have listened to other people & not signed up. AK Club is very shady & dishonest. Not to mention, too expensive for what they offer. Half the time, things you use at the facilities are broken. Please don't make the same mistake. AVOID THIS GYM.
