I was a bit nervous after reading the reviews that appeared on Google but due to my budget went ahead and checked this gym out. It is great! This is the tenth gym I have been a member of over the past 20 years and it appears to be quite good. The equipment is in good repair and there is plenty of it. I haven't found that I had to fight for a machine or weights. It might not be the elite $300 a month gym down the street but for a person who is really in a place for fitness and not to pose or to 'be seen' or whatever it is a $300/month gym does for one, it is just great! And it won't break your bank. Not everyone is a trust-fund child.

This is my local gym. I live right down the corner so it's readily accessible from my apartment and typically open. I haven't had any issues with management and the staff seems to vacillate between being bored and frirndly. I'll pretty much go to any NYSC and as far as these gyms go this one's okay!

Worse staff...General Manager needs to do a better job hiring better people. The chubbier guy in the front around 6am has the worst attitude...if it wasnt for the convenience of the gym located near my office...i would never set a foot in....hire better...

Perfectly adequate gym -- standard equipment and cardio machines. It's pretty empty during the work day so if you have a flexible schedule and work nearby you get a lot to yourself. While the equipment, lighting and music aren't as nice as at the Crunch three blocks away, this NYSC location is much cheaper; there's always some promotion or other going on, e.g. in summer they were offering $20 a month for membership.

I never write reviews. I don't yelp, I don't do these Google reviews or anything of the sort. This is one of those rare moments, you feel obligated to. So, let me start by saying they didn't overcharge me, nothing wrong was done to me in any way and I'm not just complaining. I'm trying to warn consumers of wasting their money. The staff is friendly, but lazy would be an understatement. Weights on the floor that someone left? They'll be there you're entire workout. No sanitary wipes to cleana bench? Hope you brought you're own. Simply put, the staff is lazy and genuinely does not care about what they do or your experience in their gym. Machines are grossly neglected (after several mentions of getting fingers or as pinched do to not replacing pins), they are old and in general not well maintained. The managerial staff/sales team are more concerned with signing people than providing customer service. Nysc needs to heed customer feedback as all of the counterparts in other cities (DC strong) embarrass them. My two cents, save your money and go to Blink. It's owned by equinox , the staff actually cleans the facilities. *I am not employed nor have been by either company.

I've had a passport membership for three years now and among the many NYSC facilities I've gone to, I really like this place.Always plenty of towels in multiple locations throughout the facility, sauna has only been out of service once in the 4 months I've been going (roughly 2 - 3x weekly), staff are kind and welcoming, never out of soap/shampoo.Facility is clean. Went to my first spin class last night with Dena Kranzberg and enjoyed it- she pushes you hard but is observant about each individual person in the class and will address everyone without singling one person out.Well run facility. Kudos to management.

Great gym to train. Very spacious and almost everyone is curious. Former American Fitness of Chelsea, great set up. For a great workout, this is the place. BUT DID NOT POST THE JULY 4TH HOURS ONLINE OR AT THE DOOR.

Confusing location but once u get familiar it's good. Very big weight area. No steam room and probably the nysc with worst hours keeps this from being 5 stars

Woke up Thursday morning to an email that said I'd been charged for a private training session at a gym in Columbia Heights, Washington DC. Problem - I live in New York City. I was working the day I supposedly purchased this training session. This story gets worse. I would have chalked it up to some minor computer glitch, but then I checked my account and learned the same trainer charged me $99 on top of the $69 fee and for what isn't clear. I call the gym and speak nicely with the manager about the situation. I feel confidently that as a 8+ years customer of this gym it will be resolved in a timely manner - wrong. This guy Dave goes home without checking back with me as promised on the situation. Next I speak to the Assistant manager Eric who claims he'll diligently follow up on the issue. Surprise! He can't get anything accomplished either. He can't even get corporate headquarters to return his calls. I take matters into my own hands and call Town Sports myself. I get on the phone with LETICIA. She's a lovely women - NOT. She is super indignant without provocation and declares to me: "Where you live is of no consequence to me. I have a contract signed here and you have a passport membership." I was speechless. I have a passport membership so that gives them license to erroneously charge me hundreds of dollars! I now need to prove to them that as a 13-year resident of Manhattan, I wouldn't jet down to DC for a day for a training session?! Does my boss need to write them a letter? She expected me to hang up and accept the loss but when I didn't she got on the line with a trainer at the gym who now claims it was an accident and he will see to it that I get my money back. A day later this guy who was insistent that he would make things right…still hasn't called me to say he's made things right. The moral to this story - if you don't want your money stolen or to deal with poor customer service - join a different fitness club. These people have enough customers that they feel comfortable pissing on the ones that have been loyal to them for nearly a decade. Any other gym would be better than dealing with the headache of having some company invade your privacy by stealing you hard earned cash and then declaring they have no intention of giving it back.

The weight room is in the basement, so you might feel a bit claustrophobic. The cardio machines are on ground level. Like most clubs, it has good classes. After work, it might be a bit packed and you might have to wait for equipment. But this place gets the job done. They recently renovated their locker room, so it feels clean.
