I am a senior citizen, my health insurance Renew Active (United Healthcare AARP Medicare) pays for my gym fees. On the first day I visited the Montclair Gold's Gym the representative refused to accept the code provided to me by my insurance company. On the second day, my insurance company made a three way call with Gold's Gym and myself and confirmed the same code number I had provided earlier. On the third day I went back to the gym with the same code. I was ignored during the first 15 minutes before anyone spoke to me (I was the only person waiting), that too only after I complained. The representative started my application process, again informing me that the code number was wrong. I called my insurance company from the gym again and they provided the representative exactly the same code number. It worked fine this time. It took me over one and an a half hours of harassment before we could resolve the issue. The same thing happened the next day to my friend who is also a senior citizen at the same gym (her insurance is Kaiser Permanente). I believe Gold's Gym's may be discriminating against senior citizens whose insurance companies pay our gym fees directly.

I've been a member at a few gyms in the area, Fitness 19, Crunch La Verne, and now Gold's Gym. I'm cancelling my membership after 2 months for the following reasons. They have a very large array of different weight training equipment and cardio machines, though everytime, regardless of the hour, I'm there the three squat racks and three benches stations seem to always be busy and require a wait. Not always the case with the machines, but the weight training section is pretty much always busy. They also have a steam room, showers, and a pool. The steam room is great, I use it every time I go.I find the grips on the machines are often falling off, loose, or missing altogether. It makes any sort of heavy lifting difficult without your forearms giving out from the poor grips. Sometimes the leather seats are cracked and old as well. The numbers on the pin weight machines are often rubbed off. Most, if not all, the equipment could use some TLC and updates. The people in the gym rarely wipe the equipment after use and also almost never rerack the weights. I've also seen them leave trash like energy drink cans or paper towels on the floor. Everyone is nice, I've never had a bad interaction, but gym etiquette is not very present.Overall, lots of amentities and a wide array of options, but the people who attend the gym aren't great and the equipment needs more attention.Fitness 19 Claremont would be my recommendation of local gyms.

Great place and great customer service. I've been to many gyms and this is probably the best. Nice clean comfortable facility. They leave you alone so you can do yourself and only interrupt if you ask a question. Great place.

This gym is nice but they have slacked on sanitation now. They use to have cleaning bottles and all though covid has "ended" its hard to even locate one bottle of spray or any sanitizer. Good place but bring your own spay or sanitizer for your machines and hands.

Already open later than most gymsYou can't even open in time? Watching one of your staff members outside chopping it up like half a dozen of people aren't waiting to get in the doors. I will be dropping my membership and take my happy self back my old gym and I see now that it's worth every penny compared to the way Gold's treat their members. 7:10 am and still waiting.

Julian is rude and incessant. The gym had a 'wheel of fortune' game that my friend won a free 30-day pass on. We only used it about four times. On our fifth visit, we received weird looks and the attending employee talked to about five people before coming back to us. Getting in that day was like receiving nuclear launch code clearance or something. Eventually Julian came up to us, took my ID and 30-day pass. After our workout we went and talked to him. He asked me to sit down with him. I said no, I have homework to do. He said, 'okay I'll follow you guys out then.' He blabbered on and on about the gym until I finally asked for my pass and ID back. He only gave me back my ID so I asked, "okay can I have my pass back." He said he'd 'give it back' the next time I came. We won the pass fair and square. Don't give out passes if you're going to steal them back. Unprofessional and annoying. The gym sucked anyway.

The gym itself is very nice, however the locker rooms are a mess and I have never seen them clean. The GM is a joke and walks around like he’s someone special. Take a peak in your locker rooms and clean them up. The rest of the employees aren’t much better. They will make you wear a mask even though their social media won’t show that. If you don’t you will will be treated even worse. They treat their members like garbage and do not care. There are many other nice gyms in the area with much better management that would be a much better choice

I like going to this gym but I do have some complaints which is why I gave it a three star review. Some of the equipment when out of services takes at least 3 weeks to even get a sign for out-of-order which takes even longer then to get repaired. While the gym is small, some of the gym space could be better managed or the equipment better distributed as most people are going for weights but the majority of space has cardio equipment which doesnt get as filled daily as the machines/weights.Staff is friendly, so that's a plus.I do think they are trying to remodel some areas and get more equipment so I will review later hopefully increasing the rating.

Jonathan is your man! Super helpful, put me on a perfect regime. Helped me sign up, then introduced me to a personal trainer and explained all the vitamins and pointed out which ones were more appropriate for my needs. I ended up with 3 supplements, a personal trainer package and a suitable monthly plan for myself. Very professional and down to earth!

Corporate offices and gym management both get ONE star. After adding my wife to my membership, their inability to complete the process and repeatedly denying her entry to the club with a paid membership made this a horrible experience. It showed me that management does not care once they got you signed up. Every time we came to the gym, her pass never worked for 4 months. Signature needed. The only way for her to get in is with my pass, and that depends on the level scrutiny by the junior level employee checking passes. So fed up with this I’m about to cancel my membership as well.
