Great facility. A whole room dedicated for tredmill and a basketball court. However, there are only 3 power racks making a session difficult to finish during peak hours. Could use more.

I didn’t use to hate it, but I’m beginning to. I talked to the manager today and I’m sure the AK Club account will say, “we’ve talked about this”, but the point of a review is to let everyone else know about being treated so poorly.I’m a pastor and generally a nice person. I’m not just prone to blowups or complaining to get my way. I’m pretty reasonable in general, so take this for whatever it’s worth. The Alaska Club WEST has been my gym for 11 years (or more...), but not for much longer. They continue to make changes that I’m sure are profitable for their business, but it’s the average customer who loses. They took all the cardio equipment and shoved it in a poorly ventilated, much smaller space and turned some fans on, hoping that might keep the air moving more, but if you are like me and you’ve been a member for 10+ years, you see the way they’ve catered to the opportunity to do group training (10 people EACH PAYING for what you used to get in a one-on-one session - ) and they’ve transformed what once felt like a gym for everyone into a gym for gym rats. If you’re a body builder, you’ll feel right at home, walking past all the mirrors and muscle clad people waiting to greet you the moment you walk in. It used to be that if you didn’t want that shame, you didn’t have to go into the body building area. If you have a normal to large body type like me, you’ll just feel inadequate to be there. They used to go out of their way to help out the customer, but now they have no interest in people. Just policies. For 11+ years, you knew you could time your workout so that you could watch playoffs (in most sports) and if it wasn’t on, they’d put it on for you. No longer. They do NOT change channels. Nevermind that it’s the mlb playoffs. (This was the incident that precipitated my review, but it’s just the straw that broke the camel’s back.) They’d rather you watch news on 5 channels and Harry and Ellen. And don’t come on Sunday nights. At least 50% of the time, they don’t have clean towels on Sunday nights. The management here changes about once every three months to a year and so the members actually know more about their policies than their management. Most changes just get made with no prior communication and then they just apologize for the fallout. I’m just tired of it. They do not care about their people the way they used to and there are plenty of less expensive gyms in town where you can be treated the same if not better.

A lot of people don't rerack weights or put in wrong spots, even some of trainers, but they have newer equipment that is nice.

Great, clean environment. Classes are a lot of fun, and they have a broad range or workout equipment. Memberships and day passes are expensive.

If you're looking for a gym with lots of extras and new equipment then The Alaska Club West might be worth joining. Not the cheapest gym and you'll need time to complete the sign-up. If you can survive the paperwork then you'll find the equipment is some of the best in the area. The Alaska Club West membership allows entry into other The Alaska Club locations such as Downtown Anchorage and Palmer. The Alaska Club West has plenty of parking compared to other gyms in the area. Open 24/7 with staff available. Trainers are easy to schedule along with tanning, massages, and workout classes. If the weather is poor and it's 5PM then you'll find plenty of members here.Stop reading and make some gains!

The Alaska Club is great if you have endless amount of money to spend on their services. However, when I attempted to cancel my membership to go to a less expensive gym, they neglected to explain to me that I needed 30 days notice despite the fact that I cancelled two weeks in advance and then charged my account and refused to reverse the charge. They will nickel and dime you for everything they can and there is no value in their services.

Fun place to relax after work. Kids (and parents) can enjoy the pool or kids at childcare and parents doing a workout or a massage?! What?! Oh yeah!

Went once, desided not to go anymore because the lifting equip was old. Tried to cancel the next day " that will be $500". Stay away from these thieves.

My favorite gym of all time - I went here 7 years before I moved out of state. Its very well maintained, even during peak hours its possible to get on a machine. The machines they use feel good, there are multiple options as its a large gym. Its open 24 hours and theres been times in the middle of the night where I could practice my basketball free throwing in an empty court. I Its been two years since I went here because I moved away, and no other gym (even AK club locations) has been as good. The downside is Alaska club (all locations) is it is pretty expensive, and their membership policies are questionable. Be prepared for the financial commitment when signing with AK club, but if you are gonna use the gym frequently and dont mind paying 2-4 times as much as cheap gym, it is worth it

I've been a member for about 7 months now and I'm still not complaining about the monthly payments. Perhaps you should get a membership at Planet Fitness and tell everyone about the money you're saving compared to TAC while never actually visiting the gym.
