New York Sports Club on 23rd St offers a mixed experience for gym-goers. The staff receives high praise for their friendliness and professionalism, particularly in specialized areas like Pilates with Julie Pandolf. This gym features a variety of classes and newer equipment compared to other locations. However, it faces issues with cleanliness and equipment maintenance, leading to frequent complaints about broken machines and a lack of proper air conditioning. Note that the gym has been converted into an 'elite' location, leading to higher fees and some billing disputes.

Members have reported problems with overcharging and difficulty in cancelling memberships, compromising its customer service reputation. It's a suitable choice for those who prioritize location and specific services, but caution is advised due to its inconsistent management and surprise charges. Always ask for detailed billing and service clarifications before signing up.

Pros:

  • Friendly and professional staff.
  • Variety of classes available.
  • Newer equipment compared to other locations.
  • Specialized Pilates sessions with renowned instructors.
  • Clean gym and locker rooms most of the time.
  • Convenient location with good hours.
  • Ample treadmills and cardio equipment.
  • Dedicated Pilates studio offering personalized service.
  • Temperature checks and sanitizing stations in place.
  • Supports social distancing measures effectively.

Cons:

  • Frequent billing issues and overcharges.
  • Many broken machines and outdated equipment.
  • Air conditioning often doesn't work.

Their website is down, no one returns your phone call/answers the phone... it’s impossible to get a hold of anyone and they’re continuing to charge their members through all of the covid lockdowns, even increasing their membership fees in some cases. How do you reach these people? I was just charged $164 when my monthly amount should be around $60. Their entire website is now down and it’s impossible to reach anyone

It's fine, nothing special. Cardio is probably better than the free weights area, which is relatively small and doesn't have that much equipment. There are 3 floors, with the free weights section in the basement and cardio, a bigger training area and some studios on the 3rd floor, and some cardio on the ground floor. It gets the job done but you won't be impressed. As for Covid. They ask the standard questions and take your temp and have enough sanitizing stations. I come in the morning (830-930) and never feels crowded

NYSC cancellation process is beyond disappointing.Tristan Krishindat followed a very complicated and unpleasant cancellation process. On 10/3/2020, I talked via the phone with a front desk agent. I was instructed to send an email to Tristan. On 10/5/2020, Tristan responded I needed to go physically to a location or send a certified letter to a location (no address provided). On 10/6/2020, I arrived at a location and was told: "The manager is not here." I was given a cancellation form only after saying, "Tristan told me to come here." Then, I was told in a deplorable manner, "It is your responsibility to follow up." I followed up right away and received a confirmation of cancellation effectively on 11/6/2020 - a month. I asked for an immediately effective cancellation.I won't recommend NYSC, anyone. Their customer service is inferior and despicable.

Simply put: horrible. You'll be scammed, either now or later. You'll need to contact the Attorney General to have your membership cancelled, you won't be able to cancel it and not being charged anymore. Don't trust their reply of "HereToHelp". In my opinion, it is a group of criminals. Just google and you'll see they are not normal business.

I have spent months trying to cancel my membership and have my funds returned. I have been told through written confirmation that my account is canceled and yet I’m still being charged. No one will respond to my calls or emails. Very disappointing to say the least.

Good to get back to the gym. They check temp and plenty of cleaning wipes and sprays. Gym seems clean as well as the locker room. Typically not that busy which is good amount of space away from people and most people are good about giving everyone one room.

If you like working out in mid summer heat with no air conditioning, well this is your place. It’s a steamy 80 degrees plus in here and still they keep the AC turned off, always. Don’t understand how they feel they can charge premium rates for this. Avoid at all costs.

They don’t make it clear that it’s an elite location. So you waste your time showing up and realizing that it’s not accessible. They let me go anyway for the day but it’s not that great. Nothing special that makes it feel any better than the other gyms.

One of my favorite locations. Spacious, placement of machines and weights makes sense for my workouts. My favorite is that in addition to racks they have bins with lower weight dumbbells which always contain the weights I need. Staff is very courteous.
