New York Sports Club on 23rd St offers a mixed experience for gym-goers. The staff receives high praise for their friendliness and professionalism, particularly in specialized areas like Pilates with Julie Pandolf. This gym features a variety of classes and newer equipment compared to other locations. However, it faces issues with cleanliness and equipment maintenance, leading to frequent complaints about broken machines and a lack of proper air conditioning. Note that the gym has been converted into an 'elite' location, leading to higher fees and some billing disputes.

Members have reported problems with overcharging and difficulty in cancelling memberships, compromising its customer service reputation. It's a suitable choice for those who prioritize location and specific services, but caution is advised due to its inconsistent management and surprise charges. Always ask for detailed billing and service clarifications before signing up.

The gym was fine but when I moved they made me come in to cancel my membership. They said my membership was cancelled but continued to charge me for months. Not worth the cheap rates.

I've been lifting weights for about five years. But I haven't been seeing the results I wanted. In the last year or so I have been training with Coach DiJune twice weekly. I am now in the best shape of my life. Highly recommend signing up with him if you are tired of going to the gym and not seeing results!

SCAM! Do not try their "10 day free trial", they will charge you the full month even after they tell you that you need to activate your account after the 10days have expired for you to continue using the gym. Not only was I charged the full month (I never agreed on signing up for the full month), but when I attempted to get a refund based on the information provided by the sales manager, they dragged the whole thing for about 6 months and at the end nothing was resolved. Very unprofessional the way Jeff Janos and Michael Hopkins handled the situation, telling me that I would get a refund, having me call endless times and at the end NOTHING. I'm also a sales manager and this is NOT how you attract people to your business. Fix it and do not let this happen to anyone else. If there is any hope on my case, I would like someone to reach out to me. I would like to know who the owner of this gym is...........

So, NYSC has this new practice of turning all of their mediocre to good gyms into "Elite" gyms. Some include this one, the 23rd St. gym which is a disaster with old equipment and weights strewn all over the place or the one at Grand Central that is small enough to be laughable that it could be considered "Elite".The problem with this is that they sold everyone these Global passes where the contract was that we got access to ALL gyms. Then they upgraded some, in name only, and began charging customers and extra TWENTY dollars a VISIT without ever explicitely telling anyone. I went to Astor Place numerous times and not one time did the front desk EVER mention this. Never. Total scam or total incompetence, you choose.I told this to their Astor Place location and to this one and they said "Don't worry you were never charged, so just know now but you won't pay for the past visits".But, I filed a complaint at the Better Business Bureau because it is so shady and again the customer service said that I was never charged for the times I visited those locations so I should ignore it. AND THEN THEY WENT AHEAD AND CHARGED ME FOR ALL PREVIOUS VISITS TO THEIR "ELITE" gyms.It is a scam. Go to Blink. Crunch. 24 Hour Fitness but cancel your membership here ASAP unless you want hundreds of dollars of upcharges.

They claimed themselves as the "elite" gym and secretly add $15 to your monthly passport membership fee without noticing their customers. Wow, then when you go cancel your membership at the actual store, the guy Jeff who did the cancelation, didn't even bother or he felt like he don't need to tell you that there's an additional cancelation fee of $34. This is a joke. What makes this gym an elite gym? They don't even have the courtesy to inform their customers about specific charges or increases in monthly membership, so I don't see the eliteness of these pathetic gym with shady business practices.

I have to say, I had a few issues with billing and had some difficulty with the issues being taken care of, until Michael Hopkins got on the phone with me. I was angry until I spoke with Michael, who kindly, professionally and courteously helped me and worked through the issue. At the end of the conversation I was blown away at how he turn my frustration into me being a happy customer.Michael is the type of employee that makes this place an enjoyable place to work out in. After the incident I started to pay attention to him, and how he remembers guests names off the top of his head and how professional he is. Good thing they had Michael working there or I would have cancelled my membership. Highly recommend this gym, and the location is great being conveniently close to many subways. I give the gym 4 stars but customer service thanks to Mike gets 5 stars. He being my manager, gives excellent service and attention. I don’t usually leave reviews but I made an exception for this case.

Unhappy to find that in order to cancel my membership, I had to pay 40 bucks IN ADDITION to the month I was not going to use... forty bucks to cancel. Why? I had joined this club a year and 1/2 ago, solely for the purpose of using a treadmill when it was too hot outside to run, while training for various marathons. I think I may have used the gym a total of 20 times, paying the club over a thousand dollars over the course of my membership. And then they jack me up just to cancel. I feel sort of violated. Makes me hate gyms.

The setup is cluttered and makes poor use of space. The downstairs (heavy iron) area is way too small for the number of people who use it.Edited 6/28/2017 due to billing issues.Their billing failed for 4 months. They never notified me. Each time it failed, they charge me $15 (total $45). I've since cancelled my membership and recommend other people do as well. If you read up about NYSC/TSI online you hear the same things over and over again - the facilities are sometimes good, sometime bad, but the billing is ALWAYS horrible.

Terrible gym. AC hasn't been working for 2 weeks! No email. No apology. No compensation. 82C inside.Aside from that, the showers are generally disgusting and not cleaned often enough. Go find a Crumch, Blink or Equinox!

Biggest piece of GARBAGE gym ever. Why? I'll make it simple. EVERYTHING is always broken! I've been a member here for several years, just because its the only gym close to me. If there was ANYTHING else I would go....like seriously a homeless guy should rent dumbbells on the corner I'd go there instead.I've asked nicely, begged, complained, written to the HQs of the gym....NOTHING I have requested ever gets fixed. The Ellipticals would be a perfect example. They are the pieces of equipment used most in the gym and literally every single one has something wrong with it. The gym even puts #s on the machines so I can tell you the ones that don't work! (You'd think that multiple members telling several people at the gym these are broken several times would do something....WRONG).62-69 all have something wrong with them. Ex. #68 and 69 TVs don't work, #62 the incline is stuck at level 10 and can't be moved. Lets take this example #62, I've asked the front desk staff, the equipment manager, the HQs of the gym to fix it....has it EVER been fixed? No. It hasn't been weeks, or even months but oh yes that's right over a YEAR without this getting fixed. The entire gym follows this same reasoning. I'd give you literally dozens of other examples but this review is already getting long. Stuff breaks, they figure eh' whatever deal with it. A/C has been broken several times too (nothing like working out in the middle of summer w/ no A/C!)Seriously save your money, I assume you want to go to a gym that has stuff that WORKS....if so this is NOT the gym for you. If you have ANY other options go to a gym that actually cares if stuff is broken.
