New York Sports Club on 23rd St offers a mixed experience for gym-goers. The staff receives high praise for their friendliness and professionalism, particularly in specialized areas like Pilates with Julie Pandolf. This gym features a variety of classes and newer equipment compared to other locations. However, it faces issues with cleanliness and equipment maintenance, leading to frequent complaints about broken machines and a lack of proper air conditioning. Note that the gym has been converted into an 'elite' location, leading to higher fees and some billing disputes.
Members have reported problems with overcharging and difficulty in cancelling memberships, compromising its customer service reputation. It's a suitable choice for those who prioritize location and specific services, but caution is advised due to its inconsistent management and surprise charges. Always ask for detailed billing and service clarifications before signing up.

This club is unbelievable! I had a membership with them for about 2 years. I cancelled my membership in April 2019, 6 months later (OCTOBER 4TH, 2019) I am charged a membership fee!!! How is that even possible when I cancelled my membership in April? I call the club to speak with the manager and waited on hold for 10 mins, then the staff came on and said "Oh I can't get any managers right now, they can email you." What?! I told her no I need to speak to one now because they charged my card $70 when I am no longer a member. After waiting on hold for another 20 mins, the manager comes on the phone and said "they will look into it and will contact me back. They are also shocked as to what happened." This is so unprofessional and ridiculous!

I was a member of NYSC for over two years, until they raised my membership rate twice within 12 months, increasing my monthly dues over 40%. This was all after I was told that my rate would be locked in over the same period of time.I have emailed Anthony Messina several times about and never received even an acknowledgement of receipt. The gym itself is in poor shape, but the customer service experience has been much worse.

ELITE ONLY. Since google maps does not list this one as elite, just know you’ll be charged 20 dollars extra visiting it with a normal Passport. But also, what is this elite garbage NYSC? Seems your elite gyms are only in pretty privileged spots of the city. Why are we supporting elitism? I don’t understand.

This 23rd St/ Park Av location never has the right temperature in the gym even after recent renovation: too uncomfortably warm to exercise and uneven temperature between different areas in the gym. On the positive side, staff is friendly; excellent hours; and convenient location.

Just signed up in this gym and went for my first class today at 23st and Park avenue. The teacher Yvette Landwehr showed a lot of atittute when I couldn’t keep doing the exercises and had to stop to catch my breath.I lnow that anyone cannot use the phone during the class, however I left my child with a babysitter and looked at my phone without touching it to see if she sent me a message. This teacher said in microphone for everyone to hear that I should show some respect and don’t look at my phone. She should show more respect and don’t talk to a person that she doesn’t even know like that.So my friend and I signed up yesteday and probably won’t keep my membership.Horrible experience

Hot water is consistently poor or out of service with little answer as to why, the ‘elite’ tag on this location is a joke and they decreased service after turning it into one, avoid at all costs!Update: now down to 3 ‘working’ showers out of 7 for the men, no word on if they will ever be fixed, I would give this location 0 stars if it were possible.

If you have a billing complaint or ANY issues that NYSC does not address please do yourself and all of us a favor and report it to the NY Better Business Bureau and to the NYC Consumer Affairs, you can file complaints online for deceitful billing practices which is exactly what NYSC does on a regular basis with all their customers. They are the most unethical fitness center out there.I frequent the NYSC 23rd Street location a lot, when they turned it into an ‘elite’ location earlier this year I took the time to speak to a manager face to face to have him go through my account and confirm that this location was still included in my corporate passport membership. The manager confirmed that it was it part of my membership and assured me that I was not going to be charged any fees to continue working out at that location.Having obtained confirmation from a manager that elite locations were in fact included in my membership I continued to use that gym throughout the spring and summer of this year without worrying.I was checking my cc bill and saw there had been various $20 charges from different times I visited this location in September 2018. Pretty much more than a month later (end of Oct) they retroactively charged me for my September visits. I called and spoke to someone at the front desk and they told me that apparently, my corporate membership doesn't cover elite locations and that the ONLY solution was for me to upgrade to a Corporate Elite membership or $79/mo! They said the manager who misinformed me was no longer at that location and they couldn't do anything about the wrong information and he had given me, which means this company as a whole has no accountability for the kind of information they give to their customers so that we continue to use their ‘elite’ locations and they can then continue charging all the fees they want. I called the main member services line and as expected they did nothing. The person from the 23rd street location said they were "trying to help people" by processing refunds but however NYSC Corporate Headquarters was rejecting all refund requests for this matter and telling the staff to have people upgrade their memberships instead. They are taking advantage of people and there is no accountability for it from anyone...managers, staff or corporate headquarters. It is evident this is a scam, and they are implementing deceitful billing practices!

I have a corporate membership that covers most of the locations. When I visited the "premium" location on 23rd & Park, I was charged extra $20 every time I visited the gym. They send the bill at the end of the month, so I even didn't realize that I was charged extra for two months. Also, no one in the club told me that additional charges will apply. I talked to the club manager, but I still not sure if the charges will continue even though I do not visit this location anymore. Why this gym fails to communicate the extra fees to customers? Even in Chipotle when you add F**ing guacamole to your burrito they always say you will pay extra $1. In NYCS they think it's okay to charge extra $20 for a visit and not even mention it anywhere...

I called them three times to talk to someone but they never have time to talk or even to give a call back. The only time you get to talk to them is when they make you sign up, once you sign up you never get them. There are tons of other good gyms around. And I am a member at Blink for more than 2 years now, never had this bad experience. Blink management is lot better and get back to you within few hours. In NYSC, horrible management and service.

I've been a member of NYSC for about 4 years and I recently cancelled my membership. Why? Because the club has become absolutely awful. First, they changed their cancellation policy, I cancelled about 1.5 months ago but still had to pay my membership fees and go to this awful location. The sauna has not worked since late Spring/early Summer. They constantly run out of towels (like last night for example, Wed 12/5/18 - forget about towels on Sundays) and really don't care about their members. Recently I had the worst experience trying to deal with the people who work at this gym trying to get to "lost and found". - Not going to explain it here unless someone asks me privately. The message here is: DO NOT signup for NYSC, it's an absolutely awful gym, go spend your money somewhere else. Fine print: I don't work for any of their competitors, just a customer who got absolutely sick of their nonsense.
