New York Sports Club on 23rd St offers a mixed experience for gym-goers. The staff receives high praise for their friendliness and professionalism, particularly in specialized areas like Pilates with Julie Pandolf. This gym features a variety of classes and newer equipment compared to other locations. However, it faces issues with cleanliness and equipment maintenance, leading to frequent complaints about broken machines and a lack of proper air conditioning. Note that the gym has been converted into an 'elite' location, leading to higher fees and some billing disputes.
Members have reported problems with overcharging and difficulty in cancelling memberships, compromising its customer service reputation. It's a suitable choice for those who prioritize location and specific services, but caution is advised due to its inconsistent management and surprise charges. Always ask for detailed billing and service clarifications before signing up.

This place is a complete scam and is an example of a company that just doesn't know how to do the right thing and doesn't understand the value/ cost of having integrity. I have never had such horrible customer service from Management. I will just start by saying I do not have a signed contract with NYSC, I've never worked out there, and somehow they billed me over ~$1,000. I had one manager approve the refund (Very shady way - saying he had to do it in 3 installments over 3 months). But he apparently got fired. After over a month of trying to get the contact information for a decision maker, I get the Area Sales Manager and he is even worst. He is unresponsive, he see's that I do not have a contract and says that I need to have proof that I talked to the GM prior to 6/19. Why? I coudn't tell you but I definitely have a call log that says such. I sent it and he completely ignored it and won't respond to anything. This is absolutely mind blowing. Had they just done the right thing in the first place, I might have positive associations with their brand, refer them and even sign a contract when I was ready to sign up for a gym. Instead, they are forever corrupt, shady and a company that I will never set foot in and never recommendTimeline:I went into a NYSC in October 2017. I signed up for a 10 day trial and never even went. The Sales Manager made sure I knew that I wasn't signing up for an annual subscription by doing this. I didn't even sign a contract because I knew that I might be moving and that it might not be the best location. In January 2018- June, NYSC billed ~$1000. I noticed in June and immediately called. The Sales Manager had been promoted to GM, and he got on the phone and apologized and promised me a full refund. He said he would have to do it in three separate checks over 6-8 weeks and I agreed. In August, I still hadn't received a payment. I went back and forth for weeks, calling and going into the gym locations. I found out that the GM was fired. After another month of working with management that did not have the power to issue a refund, I finally was able to get the information for an area manager. The area manager is unresponsive. Although he removed the latest two months that were in collections, he refuses to help with the issue. He gave an arbitrary date of when I had to have had my conversation with the GM (which I provided a phone logs). Even though I resolved this with a manager of the club, the new manager won't provide me his managers number to get this resolved. Again, I don't have a contract with NYSC, I never used the service, and that is proof enough that they incorrectly billed me.

I only gave it 1 star because I had no other option. If I can give it a -10 that would be more appropriate. This place is a dump. Equipment is falling apart. Then they make it impossible to cancel and keep billing you. You have to dispute charges with your credit card company. They have a multiple class action suits filed against them for this reason. They screw you on billing and cancellations. Please avoid all NYSC locations at all costs. If you do join I promise you will regret it.

Irresponsible and ineffective management; I fell from the stair machine and got my knee and elbow injured because there is no sign on the machine to indicate that it is “out of order”After I informed the employee, the manager came and only said “I will put sign on these machine.” Didn’t even ask if I am okay or not. I am lucky enough for just hurt my knee and elbow. If I didn’t grab the handle, by falling from that high stairs, I may in the ambulance now.

Really badly managed and kinda shady. When they became an "elite" location they didn't notify anyone for three months and then back-charged all non-elite members $20 for each use during that period. My charge was only $180 but I think many people were charged even more. After that, I cancelled my membership and switched to a different gym, but they continued to charge me for another two month. Then it took them 6 months to refund me because their managers are always getting fired and nobody seems to know what is going on. Also, the locker rooms have carpet so they always smell like feet, just FYI.

As a member of this "elite" gym, I'm a little disappointed with the towel quality, thin and scratchy. Also during the summer, the locker room felt like they had the heat on and now that it's winter time it feels like they have the A/C on, 54 degrees the other day.

This club claim they put a notice on front desk for NYSC members that it has been upgraded to an elite club. I was charged $40 for taking a class of 45 min that day. Trying to contact the manager but they do not answer the phone.

I give two stars because, for an "elite" branch of a chain club, this is more like a public gym. Relatively old machines organized by layout that doesn't make any sense, at least not for a place that's purportedly "elite". Plus, dirty towels piling up in a dirty locker during most weekend makes it a total disaster. Shame on you, Nysc, for charging more to use the club.

Roaches in the locker room and on the gym floor, regularly runs out of body wash and towels, and now, in the middle of summer, no a.c. for almost a week. Avoid at literally all costs. I'm a frugal guy, but I'm switching to Equinox. These guys are crooks. Oh, and by the way, about a year ago, they made this gym SMALLER, by putting in two storefronts (still vacant, never rented) and then proceeded to UPCHARGE by changing this to an "Elite" location. The only thing elite is the price.

Very dishonest and ready to rip you off without any remorse - beware of NYSC - first they sell you a passport membership with which you can go to all the clubs, then it turns out that that is not true and you actually cannot go to some of the clubs with that membership and finally if you are unaware that you cannot go to some clubs, they will let you in and charge you extra for each visit *without even telling you*! Finally, when you call and explain the situation, they say that supposedly there is some sign somewhere, and they do not care about your situation and will not refund you... “amazing” customer service - beware of this dishonest NYSC organization that does not care about its customers and just tries to rip you off.

One of the rare ones with conditioner in woman's bathroom!!! Woo. I haven't been during peak hours. I felt the layout was odd, but we are working with city space here, so understandable.
