New York Sports Club (NYSC) on 76th Street is a large gym facility spread across four floors, offering extensive cardio and weightlifting options. The location is convenient for residents and workers on the Upper East Side. The gym's friendly staff, particularly Denise, and comprehensive class offerings including pilates and HIIT, make it appealing to many. Unfortunately, its operational issues, such as maintenance delays and cleanliness concerns, have led to mixed reviews among members.

Despite the presence of various updated equipment and affordable membership plans, members have raised significant concerns about broken machines, limited towel availability, and unplanned closures. Customer service has been inconsistent, with some staff praised for their helpfulness while others are described as rude. These drawbacks have resulted in a divided customer experience that potential members should consider.

Pros:

  • Convenient UES location.
  • Friendly and helpful staff.
  • Four floors of equipment.
  • Variety of classes.
  • Clean locker rooms and sauna.
  • Affordable membership plans.
  • Updated treadmills and rowing machines.
  • Never too crowded in the mornings.
  • Good deals for hospital staff nearby.

Cons:

  • Frequent equipment breakdowns.
  • Limited towel availability.
  • Inconsistent customer service.

Basic but dirty. I have been going there for several years, due to convenience, nothing else, it is not expensive so you get what you pay for. But recently, I have seen a real decline in cleanliness. At different times my wife and I have tried using the fourth floor weights, but it smells so bad, I just could not take it. I imagine all they need to do is put in a couple of air exhaust fans.

I've been a member of multiple NYSC's in Queens before I moved to UES. I picked this club over the 3rd and 91st one, which isn't as nice. The gym is 4 stories and very accessible. Most members keep to themselves and are respectful of others. The usual cleaning staff takes care of the floors each night and the equipment is fairly new and in working order. Occasionally, there are some bikes and precor machines that are out of order or aging badly without TV controls. But the weights and most other machines are great. Showers, sauna and locker room are clean. Great gym for the price if you are not looking for Equinox.

The cardiovascular equipment is pretty good. Machines vary in age and condition, but there are several newer pieces. The weight machines are generally a bit older, but function well enough. There is a good selection of free weights. However, the larger location at 86th street closed recently, which has lead to a surge of members using this location. Consequently, the weight room is often over crowded.

My trainer, location and the friendly staff keep me coming back year after year. However, The place is not as clean as it used to be. I'm not sure why the machines and mirrors can't be wiped down more frequently. And the dust and dust bunnies need to be vacuumed. My mom's gym is so clean that the staff even periodically wipe down the weights! Now that's impressive.

This gym is decent for the price you are paying. The equipment isn't in terrible shape and it's relatively clean. Hasn't been too crowded either after work. They also have a decent set of free weights and a weight lifting platform.

I only went here a few days because I was just visiting family here and wanted to keep my workouts going. Glad I picked this place I was skeptical after reading some of the bad reviews. But those are clearly just cases of whiners and children. This gym is great, 4 story's, alot of cardio equipment and alot of lifting equipment with good variety and some pretty cool machines I've never even seen before. Everything was pretty clean and alittle crowded but this is NYC for crying out loud there millions of people in a quater mile . And they have a sauna in the locker room. This is a 5 star gym. Just go and work out . That's what it's for

Very bad business practices, not to say illegal. The gym does the job if you don't take showers there and are not planning of taking any classes (staff is the worst). I did the mistake of taking one UFX group class. Not even talking about the experience that was not worth the money, the guy a week later charged my account for 6 extra classes, just like that, out of nowhere. All attempt to discuss the matter with anyone failed. I quickly went back to try to talk to the manager who said he would look into it. When I asked how, since he did not ask any question, did not ask for my gym id, did not want to bring the trainer in for a quick discussion, he started shooting at me and said I was wasting his time. Anyway, I have been disputing the case since with my credit card company (for over 8 weeks now, the time to provide supporting documentation and go back and forth between me and the gym) and it looks like I will get my money back but wow, what a lost of time... It is so much time that I think most people give up and that is how they get away with things. I never disputed a payment before besides obvious frauds on my credit card, by it felt so wrong that I have decided I would not let this go.

I've been going here for a year and have had a really good experience. Staff is friendly and my trainer is great - he's expensive but after 8 weeks, I'm happy with the results. Machines are full maybe a few times a month and during the 6-7pm hour, but with four floors of equipment, it's easy to find something else to do.

This gym is the dirtiest run down place I have ever worked out in before. All of the equipment is run down, dirty, and falling apart. It is overcrowded. The air circulation is terrible. When you walk in you feel like you are choking on hot air and it smells. Their are never any clean towels. Worst of all, all the upper management employees are rude. I wouldn't work out here for free if they paid me non the less pay $100.00 a month to join.

I have joined many gyms. This was the worst deal I ever made. First, their rates are higher than every other gym in the area. Second, when you go to cancel their customer service representatives do not disclose all of the information and try and convince you that you cannot cancel at the moment. I lost more money at this gym then I ever have on any other. There is nothing I hate more than dishonest business and never plan on going back. Sign up for any other gym that offers you lower rates and month to month memberships. The equipment is comparable at other gyms.
