Not too bad. Some of the equipment is a little old and its a little dirty/ usually the temperature is bonkers hot.Note: Got told off for doing cleans on their olympic lifting platform (with bumpers) because they don't allow those lifts (C&Js, Snatch, Cleans) on the platform as it might damage the equipment. Pissed me off a bit being rudely interrupted during my set when doing an exercise in an appropriate location as intended.

Free weight section is located in the basement and it absolutely stinksss down there of sweaty dudes. There is absolutely no ventilation. Looks like a 24h fitness. Just moved to this area and thinking of cancelling my membership because I just can't work out there. It really smells. Also the entrance to the ladies locker room is located down there so there's no way to escape the stink.

I gave this NYSC a 3 because it has a pool (which I'll probably never use) but it's rare. This was my first time at this location and I was disappointed and didn't get a very good workout in.The entire place was busy granted it was directly after work. This gym is old and needs some major renovations. The locker room is due for an upgrade as well. The equipment is old and in no certain type of order. They do have wifi though.

In terms of a gym, it is what it is. It is their billing practices that are borderline criminal if you want to cancel. I had a membership and a training package, and went to cancel. They canceled the memebership, but not the personal training package. This would seem like a minor oversight, but they refused to correct the error. I couldn't possibly use the personal training without a gym membership, yet they kept charging me for personal training.

My experience was so similar to Adam Holoubek's (see below). This gym has the worst customer service ever. My brother, a student intern (No student rates at this gym!!!), signed up June 1st under the condition that he was only going to use the gym for two months until August 1st. Not only did they bill us for August and refuse to refund, but because there is a 45 day cancellation policy that they don't tell you about outright, they are also charging us half the month of September.Because of this, I told them that I was cancelling my own membership and they couldn't have cared less. They could have easily refunded my brother and retained me as a member. Instead, I will have to negatively review NYSC and warn my friends from joining. I hope they are happy with their extra month and a half of payment instead of collecting for the long-term.This place is awful and stay away!

I have been going here since last September. It has most of the equipment I need, but some equipment is very old or constantly broken (the ergs upstairs, for example) even after some machines were upgraded last spring. The gym gets quite busy after work hours on weekdays and on weekends. It can be hard to do your normal routine or even find an open bench during these times.Overall maintenance of the gym is poor, especially in the basement free weights section. The stink that other reviewers have mentioned is largely due to the lack of ventilation downstairs. The gym *has* A/C but they never turn it on in the spring or fall, and even when it is on the temperature is still too warm. That heat, combined with the humidity from not using A/C as well as never replacing the HVAC filters (you can see old dirty ones sitting right next to the A/C unit in one of the closets) makes for one hot, humid, stinky underground sweat fest.I pay too much per month for a gym that cuts corners at the expense of the customers' comfort. It's the little things, too: there's only one wall clock downstairs, the free weights are totally out of order, etc.I don't want to pay extra to switch to an overkill gym like Equinox, but it seems that it may be the only way to be comfortable while working out.

Not an extensive amount of gym equipment, and the weight area is pretty small so don't bother going between 5-8pm on weekdays or you'll be standing around most of the time. Its clean and has free towels which people actually use so that's a plus. Although if there are a lot of people in the weight room it starts to smell a little funky sometimes.

I have been a member of this gym for the last three years and now I am moving out of the upper east side so I decided to cancel my membership.I came in one day and spoke with the girl at the front desk and told her I wanted to cancel my membership. She went into her computer and said it was processed.I was not informed of the 30-day cancellation policy, nor of the fact that I have to speak with the manager or send a letter to cancel the membership. Now I see that I was charged for August even though I cancelled my membership in July.I called the club and tried to speak with the manager Ralph but he is not returning my calls.Instead of doing the right thing and giving me a call back immediately, he chose to evade the issue. If you want to sign up as a new member they will suck up to you with deals promising you the world, but if there is a problem all of a sudden no one knows anything and no one is accountable. This is their business policy.Even while I was there I noticed many issues. One of the best yoga teachers in NYC teaches a class there and this was pretty much the only reason why I kept the membership.I could never sign up for the class online because the system did not work and they were always disorganized with scheduling people for classes. One time the class was even interrupted because someone was supposed to have a birthday party in the same studio and they messed up the scheduling. There were other times when I froze my membership because I was travelling but they still billed me for the $70.I guess they are used to catering to clients that don't see a $70 drop as significant on their bank statement, so they just assume this is standard practice. To return to my cancellation policy, not only was my membership not cancelled when I requested it, I was billed for an additional month, and they even had the nerve to bill be for part of September.I will dispute all of these charges and not let these extortionists keep a single cent. The most surprising thing about the whole ordeal is that they could have just gave me a $70 refund straight away and apologized no hassle.Instead I will now write bad reviews for them everywhere and actively campaign in telling everyone I know to stay away from this place.

I cancelled my gym membership months ago at the central park west location. You can imagine my surprise when I received a letter in the mail, with no prior notice, from a CREDITOR saying that I owed them money. Make sure to watch them file the paperwork when you cancel because once you leave they won't do it and they'll back charge you months later for an extra measly 200 - 300 bucks. Buyer BEWARE.

It is a big gym with updated equipment and a very nice staff. You will find everything you need to exercise really well, and again I'm talking about the structure and equipment because if you want to talk about the hygiene of the place, ops, I can't say the same. It is very easy to find the cardio appliances really dirty and if you go look for antiseptic tissues you won't find it, most of the time they are finished, being replaced just after a couple of days. Till then, you better don't touch anything there, otherwise you risk to catch lots of germs. Overall, left the hygiene aside and you will like the gym.
