TMPL Astor Place is a really great gym for anyone new in town. It's in a central and happening part of town and they have all the kinds of classes and gym equipment you can ever want access to. They're downstairs boxing area is amazing, it's so good I had to attach photos. They also have an infrared sauna, which is so much better than the standard steam room saunas. The locker rooms are clean and everything that you'd expect there is available to you, from mouth wash to razers. The staff is also super attentive and if you ever ask anyone who works there for help, they immediately help you. The front desk is always helpful and welcoming. Miguel and Rachel are rock stars answering questions you have about your account, Wi-Fi, or anything about the studio. But honestly, the best part about the gym is the neighborhood feels that it has, being new to the area, I know very little about the city. But members, whether if they're in the sauna, or someone you meet after a class, they're always sharing tips about the city. It's a really friendly environment and great for anyone new to the city. It's also like half the price of Equinox, has a better sauna, and more equipment and not as crowded during the morning or after work times.

I enjoy the facility, machines, and equipment in this gym. I had to request for a temporary freeze on my account because I needed to be out of town to be with my elderly parents, and Kim was very attentive to my occasional requests. Thank you, Kim!

I've been a member of this location since it was a David Barton --> New York Sport Club --> and now TMPL. In that time, they have updated none of the elliptical machines which have broken down, even after the manager told me he would be fixing them.Likewise, this gym used to stay open to 11pm on weekdays; it now closes an hour early at 10pm. As a hard working Manhattanite, that extra hour is when so many of us used to squeeze in our works. Total drop in service that is not meeting consumer demand.

Love this gym. Location is great and the interior design and layout are incredible. Love a gym with high cielings and wall to wall windows above street level. Their resident dj, DJ Pumpkin, is one of the best house djs in nyc - always a good workout when he's spinning.

Since posting my latest review here (and in other places), I had a voicemail from some interim manager from a Florida area code and a phone call from a new manager at this location. He talked a good game and tried to press me into coming back for a no-strings-attached free month. Then he offered to refund the monthly fee I paid just before being driven out of this facility (as described below).Unsurprisingly, no refund and no reason to ever trust TMPL.Join this gym at your own peril---------------------The only thing “elite” about TMPL Astor Place is the membership fee.It was a great place when it was a NYSC Elite gym. The staff was friendly and customer service oriented, and the facility was well-maintained.Since Town Sports Inc. folded some of the NYSC Elite (and other) gyms into TMPL, the Astor Place location has gone steeply downhill.Equipment breaks down and isn’t repaired for weeks or months. Some front desk people are nice, others can’t even look at members when they walk in. Any issues or problems that you try to bring to their attention are dismissively waved off as you’re told to tell the manager. At least as of a month ago, members can only get towels by asking for them at the front desk. They used to be available throughout the multi-floor gym, but then management claimed that they’re trying to be eco-conscious by making it inconvenient for members. However, if you are looking to do lots of texting in a gym that is trying way too hard to be edgy, TMPL Astor Place is for you. You can monopolize any and all equipment, leaving other members cooling their heels while waiting for you to finish tapping out the next great American novel on your phone. Then you can take lots and lots of selfies throughout the gym — and the locker rooms. You can also leave your backpacks, coats, and other belongings all over the floor. And there is no need to put used towels in the many bins around the floor, nor free weights back on their racks.Feel free to leave half-empty bottles of overpriced “enhanced” water and muscle drinks on/around the equipment. And speaking of gym equipment, don’t bother to wipe down any of it after sweating all over it. Other members exist solely to clean up after you.If you want to bring your dog, feel free — no leash required! Sure, you can buy fake service dog certification papers online and management will accept those (even though federal, state, and city governments do not issue nor recognize any “official” certifications). Then you drop your dog’s leash and start your workout as the dog spreads out in the middle of the gym floor and goes to sleep, as all legitimate service dogs do. Or, you can just leave an unattended, leash-less dog at one of the cubicles next to the elevator. However, if you have a serious allergy to dogs, you will be treated as a second-class member whose legitimate health issues do not matter. Staff and management will suggest that you either go to another TMPL facility or use other areas of this gym, even though there is not sufficient equipment all over the place. When you have to cancel your membership and it’s the first week of the month, you not only lose the entire month that you already paid for, but they will also be petty and bill you for a few days into the next month — even after you have submitted a note from a doctor, explaining why you can no longer use their facility

Just wow. If you're in search of a top tier trainer, Maria Pawelka is the girl you're looking for. Extremely professional and has given me such great advice for training. I've never seen such fast results and am extremely pleased. Overall 10/10 amenities, equipment, and staff. Maria is an 11/10 trainer.

Nice gym, in a nice location. I've never had any issues. Staff is helpful and friendly. Most machines and weights work well, M-F mornings not bad. Evenings tends to be more packed.

TMPL Astoria Place is a stunning facility with state-of-the-art equipment and amenities that are second to none. The gym is always clean and well-maintained, and the staff is friendly and welcoming. What really sets TMPL Astoria Place apart, however, is the incredible team of personal trainers and fitness instructors. They are all highly trained and knowledgeable professionals who are passionate about helping their clients achieve their fitness goals. They take the time to understand each person's unique needs and create personalized workout plans that are challenging yet achievable. From the moment I met my trainer, Maria, I knew I was in good hands. Her positive energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and she always arrives at our sessions with a smile on her face. She takes the time to listen to my goals and concerns and designs personalized workouts that challenge me while still being enjoyable. Not only is Maria incredibly knowledgeable about fitness, but she is also a skilled communicator. She explains each exercise clearly and demonstrates proper form, which has been invaluable in helping me prevent injury and maximize my results. She is always available to answer my questions and offer guidance, both during our sessions and through messaging outside of the gym. Thanks to Maria's expertise, I have seen a significant improvement in my strength, endurance, and overall fitness level. She pushes me to achieve my best, but also knows when to adjust our workouts to suit my needs on a particular day. I appreciate her attention to detail and her ability to make our sessions both challenging and fun.

It was fine for a day even though the day pass alone is $50. The equipment was kind of worn, and the ladies locker room could use updating. Although it’s aesthetically pleasing working out in a pretty dark gym made it difficult to tell what weights I was grabbing.

This is one of my favorite TMPL locations. No matter time of day, it's never really that crowded. And even at its busiest - it's still fine. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Plenty of classes to choose from. I thoroughly enjoyed the Yoga classes on Sundays! Never had a bad experience here, and I have gym anxiety. I had a couple of PT lessons as well and they are really thorough and just super cool and nice. This gym truly promotes fitness for everybody.
