TMPL - Astor Place

UPDATE: Miguel (front desk man) is a GEM!!I really like this gym! It’s a HUGE step up from Crunch. It feels more luxury and also soooo much space. Never crowded & plenty of room at any hour on the machines / weights. The GM Rolando is also great.

Editing my previous review after speaking with Rolando who now heads management at the Astor Place location. He addressed all of my concerns regarding day passes and towel allotment, and conceded that some of the equipment could use an upgrade. It’s clear he’s taking client concerns very seriously and the owners are making smart capital investments. Sounds like some positive changes are coming this year, and I still really like the location and the expansiveness of this gym. I am very pleased with the new management!

I joined TMPL Astor Place about 2 months ago and am very pleased! The layout is expansive, the gym is stocked to meet my needs, the staff is friendly and helpful, hasn't been overly crowded, and the community of gymgoers is so far all really thoughtful and nice people. The facilities are also getting upgraded and looking am forward to an even better experience soon!

I normally don't write reviews for anything but given that I've been a member here for over 5 years and have seen this gym change ownerships numerous times, I figured I shared my experience. This gym has a unique layout and is more than suitable for your everyday gym-goer to professional bodybuilders. There is no shortage of weights and they are constantly making an effort to provide more equipment, more services and now, even recovery amenities such as red-light and cold plunge. One time I left my Beats headphone hanging there and it was brought back to me the next day. Now I can't speak to the integrity and every individual character, but for the most part, I have no issues with the environment. As a consumer, the most important thing is for a business/establishment to listen to you and Rolando is an absolute professional and quality listener. ~Bobby

This gym is a blessing in every way. Excellent equipment. Huge spaces to move freely and safely. A terrific training staff. And always super clean. A massive improvement from the previous gym. Everyone I know who’s joined TMPL is happy.

Truly enjoyed my 2 years of being a member at this location. It is run very well and has ample equipment to get a good workout in without long waits for machines or benches. The facilities are clean and the staff is friendly. An added perk is the dimmed light setting so you don’t feel like people are staring at you while you lift. Great gym, only cancelled because I was moving.

I would first like to recommend that Google start offering a six-star rating for businesses like TMPL that stand far apart from the competition. In the meantime, I will share with everyone looking for a new gym in New York City, how impressed I am with TMPL, Astor Place. The interior looks like a European castle, with high ceilings, exposed brick, and dim lighting that's very easy on the eyes (not the bright fluorescent lights you see in most fitness facilities.) The music is always energizing and never excessively loud. TMPL is by far the most spacious gym I've ever been in, with so much equipment that my workout is never interrupted by having to wait for machines or weights. They also have various Life Fitness and Matrix machines that I haven't seen in any other gym in the city. The women's locker room is enormous - I actually got lost in it the first time I was there. While trying to find my way out, I stumbled upon something that looked like a hair salon in the middle of the locker room! It's stocked with everything you need post-workout, including towels, hair dryers, razors, body lotion, mouthwash, hair gel, etc. Most importantly, it's extremely clean, as is the rest of the facility. The staff is professional and courteous. Even the people cleaning the gym (and a high five to all of them - did I mention how huge the facility is?!) are smiling and friendly to the members, which is something I haven't noticed much in other gyms. I've had great interactions with Kim, Rachel, Maurice and the general manager, Rolando. They've all been so welcoming which has added to my fantastic workout experience every time I've been there. I'll conclude by mentioning the hydro-massage chairs, from which I'm writing this review. The chairs also offer solitaire and health-related articles to read if you feel the need to multitask. I have yet to experience Monday's DJ night, but will surely post another review once I do. So again, if you're looking for a new gym in the city, go straight to TMPL, Astor Place and ask for any of the above mentioned staff. Since no one is waiting to use it, I will now enjoy another 10 minute hydro-massage...

I have been a member since Nov 2020 and my workouts at TMPL Astor Place. I find the facility clean, well-managed, with a friendly staff. There is plenty of up-to-date equipment to choose from. And there is always a nice mix of music. The gym is quite spacious and the staff promptly addresses any needs and concerns I have. TMPL has areas with natural night which I love. There are other areas that are dark and might benefit from some white paint.

Nice, clean, has everything you need from a gym. Love the decor and the atmosphere. The hydro massage chairs are great for after a workout!

This is a great gym to work out! There is such a great vibe and good music at all times, it feels like you are in a disco. I was able to join the training options and had a great experience, Terrence helped me through my transformation and got the best out of me on every workout. 100% recommended!
