This one is my favorite after Lexington. The staff is very nice and the trainers (they are not chasing you or giving you actitud like Lexington). The location is great and this one has a better schedule for weekends (really appreciated it).I have only 2 issues:- The web site says that they have “executive lockers” that’s not true, you have to bring you own padlock (like me).- Steam room or sauna, also that’s not true. I never saw it, actually I asked to the front desk and 2 staff members told me different reasons. IDK

I can't rate this place exceptionally high due to the reasons below:1. Equipment, especially machines with cables, are often broken or in need of service (some for months, being extremely jerky and potentially unsafe).2. Amenities are removed under the guise of upgrades or environmental initiatives (seriously, that's what they said when they tried to take away the towels).3. Men's showers / steam room has been under construction for several months now and at least a month after they said it would be completed.4. Lockers are often broken at the clasp point, making for easy break-in and entry.5. One side of front double-door is always locked (with no posting letting people know) and present a fire hazard as well as an issue for those with physical therapy needs. Inside, the egress is often blocked.6. Employees often ignore / do not look up at clients. I've asked for the wifi password- which I have to do as each TMPL has the same network name but a different password (so ANNOYING and such an easy fix) and it has taken 10-15 minutes to receive an answer. Speaking of the wifi? When i suggested to just name the networks differently so that premium members don't have to remember I was told that IT said it was not possible. Not. possible. (More like not. true.)7. The music can be too loud some evenings. And I like loud music. I like listening to music while I work out. I don't like when my gym's music to be so loud that I can't hear my own music through my headphones even with outside noise canceling turned on. Crazy. Loud.8. It's standard gym-clean which often means just a little dirty. Nothing to write home about. This place could be a lot better with a stronger focus on customer service but it seems to be going the way of NYSC during its decline -- strangely enough I believe it's run by the SAME person. Note the excessive name-dropping in the positive reviews and realize they're all by friends of management.Hopefully they start focusing more on the client experience soon.

If you’re looking for a gym that offers a variety of ways to remain fit, a beautiful New York aesthetic for an unbeatable price this is definitely it. The staff is super friendly and get to know you in a first name basis. The gym is clean and an never too crowded. I always have everything I need and get a good workout and there’s tons of machines and different areas to train. It’s also gorgeous inside. When I started looking for a New York based gym it was either very expensive or very commercial. I reached out to TMPL for a free trial and management was so on top of things, so responsive, so accommodating, I knew almost instantly I would sign up. Management continues to follow up, they’re super hands on. The team here is amazing. I once left my wallet in the women’s locker room with cash, gift cards, and me metro card and it was returned to me with everything in it, they literally made it a point to track me down in the gym. Cannot say enough good things about this gym.

Update: Spoke to Ronaldo the GM and received an apology and membership time compensation. Great service + problem ownership from the team.--------------------------Will not be renewing my membership.1. I was told there was a sauna in the men’s room, they neglected to tell me it’s not available until a few more weeks. I bought a one month pass they should have told me before it was unlikely I’d be able to use it2. The men’s shower has been unavailable for the last 3 days. No email has been sent; no warning. I asked when it would be open without interruption, they said Monday night. It’s Wednesday morning, they decided to shut it down right after my morning workout. I reek, I’m sweaty, and I can’t shower. I have to go home, I’m late for work.

Gym is not bad in terms of the space and equipment. Still, the excessive membership price does not equate with the total offerings including the classes which are really just cardio fitness or resistance training with a budget timeframe. The boxing class which is my particular niche is more akin to the dime a dozen pseudo fitness based HIIT routines perpetuated by many big box franchises. Jabs, burpees, push ups with lack of technique and application. The music keeps you distracted and pumped but it does little to assuage my concerns over the value of my monthly membership costs. Time to move on.

My experience here was not the best.Machines? Top notch.Fitness classes? Hit or miss.Accessibility on their site? Eh.Locker room? Let’s get into it…1) Bring your own lock - probably the only TMPL location that doesn’t have the built in combination locks.2) If you’re a male, expect to be harassed by another man in some way, shape, or form in the locker room.3) The showers aren’t available, nor were they sanitary when they were available once upon a time.4) The sauna barely worked during my time being a member—when, if ever, it opens again, expect to be harassed there, too.For what it’s worth, invest your money in Equinox or go to the Lexington Ave TMPL location. Equinox has more locations, they’re accessible, and they’re far more professional and upfront with the costs involved. I joined this particular gym because of the distance to my physical office at the time.I reached out multiple times in early January requesting to cancel my membership (as well as submitting a request online). Never heard back. When I finally went in person two weeks later, they said they’d “email me” a form, that they couldn’t cancel it in person. I got that form a day later. When I told them I could no longer go because of relocating, they said they’d waive the $100 cancellation fee, only to surprisingly charge me a “prorated” cost for the next month. No upfront explanation and they refuse to reverse it, even if I can’t utilize the gym.Read the fine print and ask for clarification as they’ll skip over some items to ensure they get those commission checks. Iffy sales manager and poor communications strategies. Invest in a communications consulting firm or consider giving the team pre-drafted copy to keep the messaging cohesive.

TMPL Astor is a decent gym with a nice ambiance, however, the showers have not been functional for going on two months now. When this first occurred, I was told to workout at Astor Place and then “shower at another location” – however, upon using another location this morning, I was informed that they have no towels on site, also rendering the showers unusable (and according to the front desk attendant, the lack of towels is becoming commonplace). As a former building facility manager, I understand the need for maintenance, however, getting different answers from different employees regarding the status of the showers is getting quite frustrating. I have been given three separate answers from different employees over the past two days regarding the status of the showers (ranging from fully open to not open at all – even one who told me to move aside construction equipment in order to shower). Hearing “the showers will be open next week” seems to be a reoccurring promise week after week. I’m just looking for clear communication from the staff – and a functioning shower.

I joined TMPL Astor Place about 2 months ago and am very pleased! The layout is expansive, the gym is stocked to meet my needs, the staff is friendly and helpful, hasn't been overly crowded, and the community of gymgoers is so far all really thoughtful and nice people. The facilities are also getting upgraded and looking am forward to an even better experience soon!

Editing my previous review after speaking with Rolando who now heads management at the Astor Place location. He addressed all of my concerns regarding day passes and towel allotment, and conceded that some of the equipment could use an upgrade. It’s clear he’s taking client concerns very seriously and the owners are making smart capital investments. Sounds like some positive changes are coming this year, and I still really like the location and the expansiveness of this gym. I am very pleased with the new management!

UPDATE: Miguel (front desk man) is a GEM!!I really like this gym! It’s a HUGE step up from Crunch. It feels more luxury and also soooo much space. Never crowded & plenty of room at any hour on the machines / weights. The GM Rolando is also great.
