This is a solid gym with enough equipment and not a huge membership. This is entirely because of the ridiculous $50 monthly membership fee. I'm not made of money but working out needs to be close to home so it's a bit of a must. Sorry NYSC, the staff is great and it's big enough but I'm bouncing as soon as something a little cheaper (non-planet fitness) opens up near by.

your average gym with your average weights in a great location. not too crowded, especially if you work from home and can make it to off hours. does its job perfectly. can’t ask for much more!

Sketchy place, 9 year member, worse each year. Rebranded to NYSC from BSC. Also, all owner uploaded pics here are NOT THIS LOCATION, no wood floors/green turf/etc., report the owner uploaded pics for not being at this location.2023: 1 star, they removed a lot of equipment, the place is emptier, and new touchscreen treadmills break now even during workouts, not worth it anymore, and I'm cancelling after almost a decade. I feel uncomfortable more people taking phone calls on the floor + selfies in the locker rooms, management doesn't put up signs/ask people to stop.2022 2 stars, new slower treadmills with touchscreens, many amenities gone, still broken machines2021 3 stars, some new mostly working machines. No more towels or drinking fountains. Reduced staff+ people recording videos of their workouts+selfies in locker room not goodAvoid this gym unless it's extremely convenient. They stole money from members during the pandemic, look up BSC class action . Only continued going since my work paid half. Planet fitness > 2x cheaper and used to be lower quality but not anymore that NYSC dropped their standards (Also PF treadmills hit 14mph vs. 12.5mph NYSC ones which do fail DURING your workouts)--older--Member since 2013 and I work out there many times a week. The employees are nice: they're always positive, they take note when you bring something up to them, they have a passion to help you work out, and they wish you a good day on your way out, but they have little power to change what happens in the gym.2016 4 stars update: mediocre equipment maintenance, ok otherwise2018: 4 stars new management Removed many broken things, put in lower quality replacements.$20 mo cheap plans (2023 update, gone) but lots of limits and you pay for towels too (2021, no more towels). You can jump on their standard plans, which are ok (2023 price increase), and then you can buy their premium plans which let you visit any "Sports Club" location (2022 update, most other locations are closed, 2023 more closed, some are now PF)Now here is an unnecessarily long rundown of everything I can think of about BSC Davis:* Fantastically convenient location in the heart of Davis* Has child care (2021 gone)* Has free to use tiny valuable lock boxes (2021 gone)* Towels must be picked up at the front desk (2021 gone)* One vending machine inside (2022 gone, 2023 only sports drinks now)* Locker rooms have locks for overnight use you can rent (2022 price increase)* Showers are ok, doors never shut right, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash is provided (2021 not guaranteed)* They have a sauna (never used it myself, 2021 paused,2023 resume)* Stair masters face the windows, work well (2021,2022,2023 some don't work)* Elliptical machines face the window, work ok* About 16 treadmills (2023 now ~12), most work fine, but some a few have bad motors, they changed faster old models for newer slower ones with touch screens (2023, touchscreen ones are worse than the old ones)* two spin bikes for general use, ok (2023, gone)* Line of standard stationary bikes, they're fine, (2021,2022,2023 many have broken pedals)* Standard set of weight machines, about two of each kind. Some of the pins for finer weight adjustments are missing* Several squat racks, ok* Stretching areas are ok, but the soft foam is ripping in some places and the areas get packed* Free weights are good, just not always organized (this is a problem with every gym).* Rowing machines are usually working(2023, only one working rowing machine usually)* Fitness studio with speed bag in a corner, and a standing punching bag in another corner. I've never been to a class, but they seem good---- Upstairs---* What used to be a nice place to stretch is now a UFX circuit with fake grass, a chain fence on the side, ... This becomes a paid only extra membership area some hours* Smaller free weight section is upstairs, usually organized* a second fitness studio for spinning classes* leg and ab machines

The change from Boston Sports Club to New York Sports Club has been terrible. If there was anything else close I'd switch

The worst BSC location, this location has the most members per square foot. It's extremely crowded at times. BSC is also notorious for poor billing practices.Davis really needs another gym in the area to compete, this is the only option for many.

It's a fine gym and the staff are all great. The issue I have with this place is that their equipment will break and they won't get it fixed. They currently have maybe 20 treadmills and 7 of them are broken and not usable. It's been this way for months. If you want to retain your customers, fix your equipment. There are too many gyms around the area that don't have this issue and your customers will leave you for them.

Worst gym ever. Always crowded. Gym equipment always breaks down and locker room looks like recent footage of the Midwest after the tornadoes went through it. I cancelled membership at the end of February and I am still being charged. Went in and they said they don’t see any cancellation, but had me sign one again.

Meets my needs completely. I agree that at peak times it is hard finding anywhere to workout, even floor space. So I just avoid those times. People are friendly. Generally things work. About a year ago I complained about things being put in front of fire doors, the staff responded and it has been handled since. I worked with Mac as a trainer for over a year and really enjoyed the experience. I enjoy the social aspect of working out, since a lot of my workout time is by myself on a bike trainer at home or on the road, it is nice being with people in a gym. I do wish they opened earlier on Saturday. I'm an early riser and the 8:00 start is very late for me. I used to go on Saturday to the branch in Central Square, but it has closed.

I paid $1 for all of February and I still feel like I'm wasting money. Way too packed to have a useful workout if you go around 5, and will stay busy until 8pm. If it wasn't the only gym in walking distance of porter square I would never consider it.The reality is that this gym is only good for cardio (even though at least 30% of the treadmills aren't working) and maybe the classes. If you're looking for weightlifting, this isn't it. If you used to go to evolve before it closed, I would look hard for any alternative.

It's fine. Issue is it keeps getting more crowded, and they keep taking away equipment. They halved the amount of treadmills a month ago, and now during peak hours I oftentimes can't get one. They took away the only Smith machine last year, and got rid of a barbell bench.Facilities could use some upkeep. A bunch of the lockers in the men's room are broken or hanging off of hinges. Machines that get broken are out of commission for 2 weeks to a month. Also, try to understand the clientele a little better. It's pretty transparently a budget weightlifter's gym, and there's 3 squat cages (& 1 smaller rack upstairs) and 2 (awful) barbell benches. Many isolated muscle machines sit unused 90% of the time while there's people waiting 2 deep for a rack. Throw another bench upstairs or in the ginormous Zumba room. I know the space is limited, but it could definitely be used better.Honestly if it wasn't in such a convenient location for me personally, I would've switched gyms months ago. 3 stars is generous, would've rather given like 2.5
