Everything about this place is terrible (except the location). It is conveniently located and that's why we tried it out, but the staff is often rude and unorganized. They charge way too much for a dirty, rundown facility. The swimming pool is so cold that my children's lips are blue when they get out of class. One time a swim instructor grabbed my 6 year old child by the head to turn her around after yelling at her to do so. She couldn't hear because she had her ears under water! There is only one good thing about the place and that's Teacher Lisa...she's awesome and is the ONLY reason we've put up with that place.

My children were enrolled in swim lessons here. My son did level two and did well but was recommended to do level two the next session which we signed him up for. On the first day, he was for some unknown reason moved into a level one class… zero communication with the parents. When we asked about it, they claimed he was still in a level two class. When we got his evaluation today it said level one recommended to go on to level two… so basically we were lied to.It wouldn’t have been that big of a deal except the the instructor that he was moved to spent the entire time flirting with another instructor and basically did nothing. There is no place where anyone asks parents to review the instructors… but they are not all created equal! Don’t even bother to attend unless your instructor is David or Henry, otherwise save your money and teach your child to swim them selves

if i could give this place a negative number i would. I was happy when i found a place that was going to give swim lessons a month ago. I talked with someone on the phone for a long period of time. I was explaining that my daughter needed some help with floating on her back. The person on the phone said that she would fit into a level 4. I was ok fine lets get her signed up. It comes time for lessons. I should have known right then and there it was just going to be a bad experience overall with the way we were treated. I walk to the front counter ask a few questions and then, phone rings , staff answers it . instead of putting it on hold and finishing help myself and my child we just got forgotten about. Then come lesson time i noticed that there was no instructors in the water with the swimmers!!!!!!! this wrong on so many levels! As a past swim instructor you NEED to be in the water with kids. Now if I would of known that the instructor was not going to be in the water with my child I would have never signed up. The next thing that happens she pulls my daughter out of the class and tells her she cant be in class. How awful to do that to a 7 year old. After getting her out and then we talk to someone tell me that level she needs to be in is level 2. Ok I ask is swim teacher in the water , staff responds no its parent taught. Ummm no that is not ok with me. I ask for my money back and I cant even get that .I just think if you are going to have all the rules of things you can and can not do . I do not think you should be offering swim lessons at this time. In my mind you are causing a huge safety issue !!!! We will not be coming back to this place .

I canceled my membership online when it was time to renew and talked with someone on the phone to make sure it was canceled and it was and now 4 months later I received a letter from collections stating I owe $727 for this years membership. I called and talked with the gym and they refuse to cancel the membership and said my only option is to pay. I NEVER received a phone call or email from them telling me there was an issue with my cancellation. It really saddens me that they have not told the truth about the situation. They also refused to let me talk with the owner of the gym.# badcustomerservice!!

Oh yeah! I used to go there! Its a great fitness center with indoor and outdoor pools. They're very involved in the community, schools etc. While many similar businesses struggle, I dont see these guys ever having a problem as a result of their awesome location, facilities, and community involvement.

Wonderful people who are attentive and share their enthusiasm for you and your interests. We used it for private swim lessons for our kiddo and he loved it. Instructor is patient and doesn't rush the child no matter their ability.

TURNING BACK THE HANDS OF TIME WITH CHARLENE – MY PERSONAL TRAINER.I’m a 72-year old retired high-tech executive who, over the past 30 years, has worked 60+ hours/week and traveled 100,000+ miles/year. Needless to say, all those years of improper diet and virtually no exercise took a toll on my health. My annual check-up last October revealed high glucose and blood pressure levels even though I was on medication. Plus, I generally felt tired most of the time and was losing my strength and flexibility. Clearly, I was on a downward spiral and the outlook was not good.In January my wife convinced me to join her at a Barre exercise class at the Lacamas Swim and Sport Club. Our Barre instructor was Charlene Johnson. Well that first class was an eye opener – I lasted for less than 20 minutes out of the one-hour class and could hardly do any of the exercises. I quickly realized that I needed help and asked Charlene if she would be my personal trainer. After a consultation, Charlene developed a detailed plan tailored to my goals of increased strength and flexibility, weight loss, and improved balance. Over the past 3 months Charlene has helped me execute that plan slowly introducing new challenges as my strength improved, providing inspiration when needed, and always keeping my safety in mind. My health is improving dramatically as evidenced from my lower blood pressure and glucose levels which are now well below diabetic levels. I’ve lost 20 pounds and my strength and flexibility have improved. I’m now even able to occasionally out-drive my buddies, some of whom are eight years younger than me, on our Saturday morning golf outings.I can’t say enough about Charlene. She has a great understanding of physiology and her personalized approach to address my specific health challenges have turned back the hands of time. I feel younger, have more energy and am ready to enjoy an active retired life with my family including our 6 young grand kids. Thank you Charlene……Ken Vartanian

We Just relocated to Camas from Chicago and have been members for 8 months. My wife has been a Manager in the fitness industry for 13 years. So I have had the perks of hearing the Good and Bad.The Staff here is Great! And I was skeptical at first reading some reviews. You can't please everyone and things change! At the end of the day this is a Family atmosphere with all the equipment you need. The Lac-attack classes are the thing of the Future. Kiley the Fitness Director has a passion for helping people and fitness. This home town Gym has assembled a staff that amazes me. I come here to train and better my self . Picking apart past reviews are excuses not to go workout in my opinion.Nathan the General Manager and his staff will address all your needs with the upmost respect and make you feel like family. We truly enjoy coming here.

Changing my review from a 5 to a 3 since after one month of lessons we were unable to sign up for the same class so my daughter could continue because it was already full. The class just ended yesterday and we were given no indication that was the case. The person on the phone could have cared less. I like the swim instruction here but the customer service has continuously been lacking.previous review: At the last minute, I signed up my children for a two week intensive swim class, not really knowing what to expect. Let me tell you, I am really impressed! Having been to a couple other places around town that were incredibly loud, this facility was quiet and very relaxed. There were only two classes going at the same time and both, obviously experienced, instructors were patient, kind, loving - I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Both of my children gained confidence and skills, I highly recommend them for swimming lessons!

I Would not recommend anyone do business with Lacamas Athletic Club. As a 3 year customer I would use the gym 4 or 5 days a week. I had always paid upfront for my membership in full at the beginning of each year. I was never in a monthly contract, nor did I wish to be in one. Towards the end of my 3rd year the staff started to remind me that my membership would expire soon, calling several times asking if I would like to renew my membership. After telling the staff I needed more time to consider it I removed my payment information from their system, and decided not to pay for another year. I wanted to cease doing business with the gym due to the many problems you can read about in other google reviews. Several months go by without another phone call. Imagine my surprise, and frustration when I was informed by mail from a payment collections agency that I was unknowingly switched to a month to month payment plan at the gym when my prepaid year expired and now owe several months of membership dues. Upon contacting the staff of Lacamas I was told to wait several hours to speak with “the payment guy”. The employee was able to show me the small line of print that allowed him to continue to bill me and was “quite comfortable” with this line of print when I suggested it be removed so that others in the future would not be placed in the same situation. I am very disappointed and hope this never happens to anyone else.
