New York Sports Club (NYSC) on 76th Street is a large gym facility spread across four floors, offering extensive cardio and weightlifting options. The location is convenient for residents and workers on the Upper East Side. The gym's friendly staff, particularly Denise, and comprehensive class offerings including pilates and HIIT, make it appealing to many. Unfortunately, its operational issues, such as maintenance delays and cleanliness concerns, have led to mixed reviews among members.
Despite the presence of various updated equipment and affordable membership plans, members have raised significant concerns about broken machines, limited towel availability, and unplanned closures. Customer service has been inconsistent, with some staff praised for their helpfulness while others are described as rude. These drawbacks have resulted in a divided customer experience that potential members should consider.

I want to say that the manager of the 76th location UES, Denise, is hands down one of the nicest people they have. I am a longtime member and had a couple issues. She was kind, patient and had a great personality. She not only resolved my issue but went above and beyond. She made a client very happy and she is a true pleasure to deal with!

The first time they told me that I could only have access to one towel if caught me off guard.I use the gym primarily for the sauna and with one towel I have the option of going in without one (unsanitary) or using the same towel from the sauna after a shower (unsanitary). The second time it happened I asked why this was still happening and they told me that they were waiting on a shipment. I thought it was a ludicrous policy that supported a gross, unsanitary environment but I decided to keep cool. This past week when I went I was told the same thing. Keep in mind the first instance was about a month ago. It’s DISGUSTING to ask your paying customers (both my wife and I are members here) to use the same towels to shower as we use in the sauna.Blaming it on a shipment is not a valid reason either when it comes to running a clean gym, and the duration of the excuse makes things worse as this has been over a month now.I want access to what I pay for so that I can have a healthy sanitary gym experience, no more run around.

been going here for like 3ish months. i lift weights so that's what my review is referencing. It's a good neighborhood gym but disappointing that the weight areas at nysc 23rd is SO much better with like most barbells being rogue, a nice deadlift mat, an actual functional sled area, etc.

Based on my personal experiences, I don't think the management cares about customers or the local community. Additionally, this gym will sometimes close early, apparently because the employees feel like getting off work early.

Decent gym. Most days there is no air conditioning on the 4th floor (main floor with free weights, squat racks)

This is the worst gym in all of the upper east side possibly in all of NYC. They force you to pay for the all location pass to attend this location which is nearly double the regular one location price. The staff is always rude when I’ve gone to them with an issue. They are constantly out of towels. At least two machines broken down at a time and the AC breaks down in the summer all the time. Also their hours are still “just getting out of the pandemic” hours. I can’t believe I pay $100 a month on a gym that closes at 5pm! Get used to seeing this sign (image attached). Imagine not having running water in the cardio room!

It’s a good club with four floors, decently priced and convenient if you work at any of the hospitals on the upper east side. However, most of the time the shower gels are empty in the men’s locker room. Today I was denied access to two towels despite informing that I intend to use the sauna and shower afterwards. How’s that even fair or logical?

I'm very happy with this NYSC (after a bad experience with another NYSC a few years ago). Great price, friendly staff, all the equipment I need. Much better deal than the local Equinox.

Update:Having been a member now for a month, I am happy to say I am still pleased with my choice in joining this location. The front staff are always friendly. I never have issues waiting for the treadmill, cycling, or rowing machines. The weight machines can get busy sometimes but I don’t think I’ve ever had to wait longer than 5 minutes. Lockers are well kept. Massage chairs are great. Sauna is hot and clean. The only minor complaint I have is that they recently removed the towel locker at the front entrance. You are now limited to 2 towels per visit, which is pretty inconvenient. I get saving on costs, but the abundant towel service is a part of what makes the experience here feel more upscale. Taking that away makes coming here more of a utilitarian experience and less luxurious. I say bring back the towels! Or better yet, upgrade them. One other suggestion: upgrade the shampoo, conditioner, and body soaps. Literally, if you all did that, I would never bat an eye at Equinox.*****I honestly don't understand why this location received such negative reviews. I just toured and signed up for membership today. Compared to the other gyms, NYSC is a great value. Passport membership was only $75 a month for access to all locations, though I got a corporate discount, so brought it down to $60. The gym has four levels, it's well lit, the locker room is clean, there's towel service, there's a sauna, tons of equipment, and my personal favorite, pilates reformer machines and classes. The reformer classes alone cost $35 a pop anywhere else in the UES. The front desk receptionists were nice and the trainer Jane was very friendly and welcoming. The only other options in the UES would be Crunch fitness, where the monthly rate is $100 for a single location or $270 at Equinox. I've been to Crunch fitness. It's perfectly fine too, and they have great classes, but it was a little too dark and the layout was a little weird. Equinox is great, but for that price point, no thanks. There's the 92Y and Asphalt Green, but again, they are both similar in pricing as Crunch, with access to only one location.I initially thought there wouldn't be enough class offerings for me at NYSC because they don't seem to advertise it online but after signing up, there's an app that you can use to register for the many classes at all their locations, and they are not full. So you can literally take yoga, pilates, HIIT, cycling, martial arts, etc for a fraction of the cost of regular studios.Ultimately, I think NYSC is the best deal in the UES for convenience, variety, quality, and pricing. Side note: I'm a former Class Passer, and I am canceling my subscription plan.

We are no low longer and Covid. The hours are for the employees not the people paying. They should be open everyday late for people at work. I will also say they do not fix things at the gym. They need to take pride in their gym. It can take months for them to fix a shower. If a hook is broken in the shower it is left broken. I find it dirty at times and they don't clean it everyday properly.
