New York Sports Club at 303 W 145th St offers a variety of amenities including group classes, a sauna, and functional equipment. Conveniently located near the subway, it boasts a friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. However, the facility struggles with broken equipment, cleanliness issues, and poor customer service. Membership cancellations also pose challenges, leading to frustration among many customers. It’s a convenient option if you live nearby, but the gym requires significant improvements to meet customer expectations.
Overall, while the gym meets basic fitness needs, potential members should weigh the pros and cons before committing. Efforts for renovation are ongoing, but frequent member complaints about hygiene, equipment maintenance, and billing practices suggest this location needs considerable enhancement to provide a satisfactory experience.

NYSC have truly shown they do not care about their members. They tried to charge my account membership dues for September even though this club opened starting 9/28. Attempted to cancel membership by going to the 125th street club on 9/3 but they never cancelled my membership. Finally was able to cancel my account this week so due to the 45-day period, I will be charged an additional month plus cancellation fee. They did not notify when they closed and definitely not when they opened. The convenience of location is not worth the hassle.

Let me preface this review with stating that the training environment and staff at the gym are absolutely amazing. The reason for a 0-1 star review is that the gym equipment and upkeep is mismanaged by the administration leaving machines chronically broken and lack of addressing the issues the members have. The trainers do their best and are fantastic. If you want one of the most intense workouts of your life ask for Jonathan!

Whenever I have an inquiry or even an issue, the staff are always courteous, professional, and quick to resolve the issue in the best way possible. They always make me feel like a valued member and person, not just a dollar sign.More specifically, I had an issue with freezing me membership, so I reached out and spoke to a woman named Leandra. She was SUPER helpful. She explained the steps to me, was patient and answered my many questions, and even followed up the next month to make certain that things went as planned.Another time when I had a billing issue and got to speak with her again, she offered me the same exemplary customer service.I can honestly say that my experience working with her and staff like her, are the reason I'm holding onto my membership. I like the treatment, I like the amenities, and I like the peace of mind offered during my workouts.

Do not give this gym your credit card information. The problems started weeks after I first joined, when I noticed an unauthorized $59.99 fee on my card... an undisclosed "annual fee" that no one thought to mention when I signed up. Since then I have had to religiously check my charges, as the monthly fee goes up without any notice. Most recently I cancelled my membership, and have received three separate charges from NYSC West on my credit card since receiving confirmation of the cancellation. Not to mention the charges I got while the club was closed for COVID.No matter what your experience is at this gym, it's not worth having to monitor your credit card and battle CONSTANT unauthorized charges after you sign up. It's a huge waste of time and I'm beyond frustrated. My advice is NOT to visit this gym, and if you do, prepare to watch your credit card statement very closely while you are a member. And invest time in contacting people to fight the charges. Whatever you do, make sure you cancel your card after you quit so that they cannot continue to charge it.

Was charged for month of April, when it was already closed, recieved an email that will not be charged until "all clubs will reopen" and will get a "credit" for month that I paid but it was closed. My local club is still closed, yet I got charged again in September. So what am I paying for? And where is this promised credit? Been trying to cancel membership remotely trough email, still no luck. I was a loyal customer for 5 years, I trusted this gym, and always enjoyed going there. Well, not anymore, this horrible and unfair experience changed everything and I can't wait for it to be over!

This gym overcharges. I had an increase after 8 months and decided to cancel considering it hadn’t been a year since I started. When I canceled, Kelly began emailing me about possibly becoming a member at a monthly rate of $29.99. After emailing her several times and asking dozens of questions to make sure it was legit, I agreed to it. This was the middle of August. About a week later, I decided to go work out but when I let them scan my barcode they said I didn't have an active membership. I said ok, it wasn’t a big deal. I emailed Kelly who stated she’d put a note in my account so they’ll let me in next time. Another week went by and I received an email for my new membership at a price of $54.99. I called and asked about the price considering we discussed $29.99. Kelly stated she couldn’t refund the money but she’d give me the following month free, I agreed to that. The next month, I noticed I was charged $78.05 instead of the $54.99 that was on my account previously. I called Kelly and it took her several days to figure out why. After her “investigation” she stated the remainder of the money came from the enrollment fee that was prorated. So they prorated the enrollment fee but said they couldn’t prorate the $54.99 even though the membership agreement started Aug 21. The month after that they charged me $59.99 which made me just cancel my account again and block them from charging my credit card again. I will never have another membership there and wouldn’t suggest anyone else either. Yes, they have classes but the gym is very small, they don’t have enough treadmills and machines are broken pretty often. I’d rather just go somewhere else.

Beware when you cancel your gym membership. They trick you to pay an extra month. Untrustworthy staff. I was trying to cancel my membership since November 2019 over the phone but NYSC was always saying that I had to go in person. On January 9th 2020 I was at the 145th street location to cancel and the 45 days were supposed to expire on February 23rd not in March they are saying. The employee that I talked to said the cancelation was done and February would be my last payment and a $10 fee. Now they want to charge me extra month. I sent multiple emails, called a lot of times to speak with the manager and no answer about this situation. They ask you to go in person so like this you do t have proof that they actually cancelled your membership so they can take your money for one more month!!! Besides that the equipamentos are always broken, the ac doesn't work.

Half of the equipment is always broken. The studio room has dust bunnies dancing across the floor because apparently it is never cleaned. They randomly changed my plan and started charging me more every month. I called 6 times and have still never received a response from the manager. I will have to call my credit card company, DCA, and the BBB now. The only reason they got 2 stars is because they do have some good classes and nice instructors particularly the hip hop and cycling classes..

This gym sucks. Machines are consistently broken. Class schedules are limited and very inconveniently timed. They scam you when you sign up, saying you can cancel anytime without any fees which is BS because they do charge fees and any other payments for 45 days.

Technically should be a good gym, fairly large Much better at nights. But the culture is toxic masculinity centered. Men comparing themselves to each other and dominate the weight areas. A lot of the equipment doesn't work and with out proper signage, got to really hunt for working machine. There are better sports clubs nearby
